Where did you find this? The DANCES OF THE AGES segment in part of the 1913 film of the same name, produced for Edison and featuring Ted Shawn and Norma Gould. Shawn is also seen in the "Denishawn" footage along with Ruth St. Denis.
Wonderful stuff! Though I find the tippling gentlemen around the table rather annoying... To get realistic movement in this piece one has to slow to no more than .75 'normal' speed; some parts look best at 50%. Those were hand-cranked cameras and hand-cranked or rheostatic projectors, so speeds were all over the place. This wouldn't remotely have been projected at 'normal' sound speed, 24 frames per second.
My dance teacher said Denishawn was a front for queers and there was probably a lot of sex going on behind the scenes: Louise Brooks was a call girl in the 1940s. The dancing seems a bit made up and not very well synchronised.
a gem of history
👌👏👏👏

Can anyone tell me what the Orient dance is about?
If it is OK with you, may I please share this clip with my students? I have a blog on dance for them.
Sure.
Would you mind sending me a link to your blog?
I'd like to check it out.
Is Louise Brooks in here anywhere?
