  • Watch the last video if you want to see the epic fight with this Bonefish! In this video I show you how I make Won Ton out of Bonefish. Many people release the bonefish they catch, in Hawaii many fishermen keep them to cook. I mostly release them, but once in a while i'll keep one to cook. Lots of work cooking it, but it pays off at the end!

    Why bother to scale it if you are just going to spoon out the meat?

    • @SaltwatersHawaii
      @SaltwatersHawaii  2 роки тому

      You don’t have to, but it helps prevent scales from getting into the meat🤙

    I saw in a video where the guy cut off the tail, and rolled out the meat like a tube of tooth paste. He said it was the easiest way to do it. Yeah, it was Shaka Fishing who did it.

      Yeah it’s easier, I’ll try that next time!

      @@SaltwatersHawaii Oh, I forgot, they said you have to freeze it, then thaw it out and soften the meat up by hitting it with the rolling pin you use, to squeeze it out the tail. Sorry.

    Suggestions if I may, try freezing the oio or awa, more easy for the meat to scrape after thawing the fish out. That's how we did it back in the day.😀

    Thanks for going over the process of preparing the oio. Can the finished product be cooked by steaming like Chinese dumplings instead of frying? I know frying tastes better but being an old guy with a family history of heart disease I try to limit my intake of fried foods. Getting old kind of sucks sometimes but it beats the alternative....I see your dad was your back up cook, nice to have a good partner in the kitchen. And again you showed yourself as a well brought up young man by taking good care of your grandmother. Mahalo

      I made dumplings with some of the wraps after. All I did was boil them with the ramen. I thought it tasted better! Maybe next time I keep a bonefish I’ll make dumplings! Thank you as always🤙
