  • Algebra Essentials, Lesson 6, Combining Like Terms
    Get the book at bit.ly/AEGEDBook
A strong foundation in the symbolic "language" of algebra along with the concepts of simplifying and solving are very important to the GED® Math Test and for college. Algebra Essentials provides that foundation for struggling students by focusing deeply on algebraic reasoning.
In this sixth lesson, Combining Like Terms, we'll see why adding and subtracting in algebra is really no different than the basic math we did in third grade, even if it looks a little intimidating. Along the way, we'll review lots of familiar concepts, laugh a lot, apply this skill in college math, and even take these concepts to the streets! #thuglife

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you thinking if each side is 7, the perimeter wouldn't be 78? Because it's x, the unknown number, that is equal to 7, not the side length.
      One side length was 2x + 5, if x=7, then that's 2(7)+5 or 19
      The other side was 3x - 1. If x=7, then that's 3(7)-1 or 20
      19+20+19+20 = 78
      Does that make sense?

Is she assuming that Annette talks ghetto because she is black? When clearly she sounds as soft spoken and professional. I have seen other videos and she doesn't act this way with anyone else. Be yourself and just teach.

I am sorry it came across that way. That is not what I meant at all. Annette and I were just having fun riffing off each other.

And, absolutely. Annette is fantastic. Intelligent, soft spoken, professional. There is a reason I use her in this series. I'm the goofball.

Hi i need your help. Im 38 and i am trying to get my ged. Decided yesterday im going to. Im having trouble finding a good youtube channel. Some channels only have many and i have to dig through 100s of videos to find an accurate video. Breaking them down into 9 min clips is a struggle. Is there any channels that exist where i can start from the absolute beginning? I really want to get my ged.

Hello John! Thank you for reaching out! Here is some information on the best way to get started.
Read a book you ENJOY for a half hour every day -- this will help you with ALL the tests. And work on readtheory.org, reading each passage slowly and carefully. Take your time on each quiz and don’t work on it when you're stressed or rushed.
The best way to get help for the math portion is to use the website www.lightandsaltlearning.org/home. Start at Unit 0 and work your way through doing one worksheet for each video.
We also encourage you to join our FB student support group. It's a very active group with over 20k members and a great place to get insight into the GED® subjects. You can ask questions, talk to volunteer tutors, and discuss subjects with other students. Also, be sure to check out the Guides section for free resources!
