I had a 10gb plan with Hughes. 1 Netflix movie used just about half of that and I was in school too and after about 10 days from paying the bill. Internet was basically useless. I had to go to the library for service while I paid 80 bucks a month for internet.
Hi There, I worked for HughesNet for a little over a year and I have a few bits of info to give. This is a satellite based internet service, so any weather, or even trees can disturb your internet. Hotspots use 4G internet so of course it’s going to run way faster than any satellite based internet. Also if you live in an area where a lot of people have the service is brings your chances of having 25MBPS speed down because more people are on the gateway that you’re on, that’s why the guarantee is 25MBPS or up to 60% of 25MBPS. Because with the variables with satellite based internet, there can be no exact pin pointed guarantee as to what your speeds will be. Also PSA: if you are a business owner and/or require using VPN (Viral Private Network) please please please DO NOT used any satellite based internet services. VPN’s are not compatible because it slows down the process of your satellite to compensate for any delays, it will be so slow you will not even be able to use your internet at all. Anyways there’s a lot more, of you have any questions just let me know I would gladly to a reply with more information.
Hunting Trapping 101 unfortunately that’s satellite internet. It will never be as fast as 4G or Fiber, this is an option for people that have no other option and need satellite internet. It’s a internet connection used for only web browsing etc. it is not built to support streaming or gaming.
If they are as good as " they falsely advertise" , why sign a two year contract ??? , in a sarcastic voice, --who would leave a great service like that ???....folks would Never leave such a grand scheme!!!!! my feelings exactly!...i have viasat which is no better...i hope the owners of the sat internet companies lose every single customer and go completely broke when something better comes along....i despise them with all my being
I had Verizon DSL for a few years that was my only option. It was a waste, I filed probably a dozen FCC complaints as it was always down. I almost jumped on Hughes, but thankfully the cable company finally ran down my street. I'm sorry man as you totally got screwed! You are doing a great community service though!
Verizon used to be crooked and evil too but they changed. I know someone that uses them, pays $90 a month, says it's lightening fast and they get everything. Gaming, netflix, movies galore, you name it. I wish to God I'd been told before we were signed up for this terrible service what was happening and it would never have happened.
By my own stupidity I apparently agreed to a 2 year contract with this company. Service was spotty at best, and generally i could expect to have a 2-3 sec lag+ time between web pages, and the need to pause any video content for 5-10 seconds before resuming. Service would often cut out entirely at times during any sort of bad weather. If I ever got 25M a sec that's debatable, but for a temporary rural satellite service i wasn't expecting much. But oh no my friends the real issue was the sneaky contract. When I went to cancel because i'm moving soon, they made sure i was now aware that i had signed that and are going to charge me 320$ to early disconnect. Rather than want to try and keep me in the future or have me give good word of mouth, they would rather just stick me and get my money now with no exceptions. So here ya go hughesnet here is your damn milk money, I WILL NEVER GET YOUR SERVICE AGAIN, and will not be recommending it to anyone EVER. Great business model, very corporate commando.
I got a letter from yhem. Free instalation no money down. I called. They wanted something like $50 down. Told them I didn't have $50. She quickly dropped the price. Told them I didn't have it. She TOLD me to to call someone and borrow it. Told her I'd have to call her back. She told me the minute I hang up the offer expires
The average person uses 9 GB per day. HN’s biggest plan: 50 GB, for one *month*. At that rate, it literally doesn’t last a week. Also, 25 Mgps? Sometimes I get more like 25 Kbps.
I just cancelled with Hughes net i started at $75.00 a month but kept going up even with discounts got up to $101.00 and even after i paid my bill they bill my creidt card another dollar or two and i had to call my bank and the bank cancelled the extra bill. The Representative just told me and i have it on Recording i was paying for 25 mbs but on getting 9 mbs what a RIP OFF COMPANY and most of the time i paid in advance !
I wish I had seen this before I got talked into getting this junk!! I called Hughesnet to cancel this crappy service and was given the run around and now I'm being charged $160 for cancelling ANNNND they tell me that I have to uninstall it myself. This means I have to climb up on my roof and disconnect it. If I don't, I will be charged $300. What a JOKE!!! I will never use them again!!!!!!!

I also thought about these services but your information helped me and I will pass this info to anyone who thinking about getting this kind of service. your video helped us. They might be made some money from you but trying to make a few hundred dollars from clients they will lose millions of dollars.
I hated Hughesnet. So when I moved and heard about Wi-Power I was all for it. Even with their lowest package, Wi-power is still better than Hughesnet. But I wish where I live, broadband is available.

They do suck. Notice the commercial says bits not bytes. We had max speed of 1 mps, a 15 gb limit per month for almost $80 a month. At 1 mbs we couldn't even stream. Too slow for buffering. Just do a review search and you will find thousands upon thousands of complaints. When we got rid of them I took an axe to the satellite dish just for symbolic bashing for lack of a better term.

Forget hughesnet it is not at all something anyone should ever rely on. Cable or dsl is all anyone should ever rely on. I feel bad that certain areas have no wiring for internet. It should be government funded so everyone has options.
I use up both the bonus and the normal limit on the highest plan amount in around 5hrs then it is slow for a month. I will let you guys in on a secret that internet and phone providers use, they say up to 20Mb/s so you think oh that's the same as the downloads on my computer or game console. But it is not it is 8 times slower because they are using megabits aka 1/8 of a megabyte which is what your computer or console uses. Now I will show you how to tell the difference now if they are measuring in megabytes "the bigger version" they will say "up to 20MB/s" the B will be the upper case if they are using megabits "8 times slower" they will say "up to 20Mb/s" also Hughes net sucks we have used it for 4yrs because it is our only option. also, BONUS TIP if you have an android device with a mobile connection lookup PDANET it will use the connection of your phone, not the separate hotspot data that they slow down drastically after the data limit but you will need to plug your device into a PC and it has a lot of issues but in most cases it is even faster than Hughes net even when you have data left. sorry, I rambled on for so long but I hope this helped someone. Good luck with your internet issues.
For one they have to tell you the 24 month contract for two you can cancel before your first month minus ur data allowance without the cancel fee. READ THE FULL TERMS AND CONDITIONS GOOD LORD.
we got hughs net there is spectrum a mile away from 2 directions and spectrum says they cant service our section. So we got hughes net. It sucked from day one. They tell you all kinds f bull to get you signed up. And what they dont tell you is the killer. We are supposed to get 25 mgb but rarely get over 4mgb. Called then many times.Customer service is a joke. Cant get anyone who speaks English. Cant understand them. also direct TV uses the internet to record and play back recordings. So for you MGb's you pay for and not getting you may get one recorded move that uses up all the MGB's . Then you get throttled down to .5 MGB. So I say fuck you hughes net! As for using your cell service as a hot spot .that a joke too. what they dont tell you is unless you get 5 bars on your phone your hot spot is basically garbage also.
Except mobile providers usually don't allow home usage. It violates their ToS. Meaning they can actually cancel your service if they catch you using it for that. And both mobile and cable do the same thing. Even if it says Unlimited they still have the same data cap crap just in different sizes. Verizon in particular being the worst (drops down to 600kbps down and 128kbps up).
I had Hughes and as suppose to get 15 mbs and only received between 1 mbs and 5 mbs and they kept on saying it was good on their end but wasn't on my end so after 3 months I decided to cancel. I didn't pay them the 3 months I had. They wanted to charge me the cost for cncelling them and I told them I will call the BBB so they waved the Fee. I had to go back to my phone Co. and I get better service with them than I did with Hughes. I would not recommend hughes to anyone.
i tried talking to their customer service people twice. once because my speed was horrible and he raised his voice to me in a threatening manner. he also didn't even know what i had been told i would receive. the second time i called was because my house had burned down. the first lady said i would not owe even the partial bill. the second lady i spoke to i made the mistake of mentioning that the first lady said i would not owe the partial bill. i was far from hateful and said it matter of factly. at first she seemed nice and said i will see what i can do. she paused a second and said ok, i am writing off the 50 you owe for your service and you are paying the 600.00 for your contract!!! i was not hateful at any point with this woman. i just lost my house and she was like that. i went online to write a review but apparently they are controlled by these poorly ran companies as well. it is called consumer affairs. all i seen was great reviews highlighted by hughesnet and when i wrote a review i went to look at a past review i wrote and it had never been published!!! they simply sit on them if they're bad. do not buy from these people. if you need ANY sort of customer service you will instantly regret it. there isn't ONE american person to speak to at all. it's probably not even an american company. definitely doesn't have american values. not one.
I did get good customer service but you're right, it's not an American company, it's in Sweden I believe but they use companies in India and places like that to run parts of the company business.
I use cell hotspots for mine. Checkout companies like Unlimitedville...offers hotspots with no throttling on 4G LTE, its as expensive as HughsNet, but alot faster and 30-90 pingrates...you can game on it!
Yes but you can file a civil suit which is just you and your lawyer. Too bad because it looks like a class action is needed. Never neglect to use your government that looks out for the little guy either. Attorney general of your state for one.
It’s GRABAGE I got an Ethernet cable and gen5 and I still can’t play online games with out ragequiting because of my ping just don’t get it it’s terrible people just terrible
Wish I found this video 2 months ago. Have hugesnet service. Very disappointed. Paying more money for less service. I just hope space x or Amazon internet is sussuful. Then just maybe they will realize what they done when every rural area drops them. With others getting in the game you would think they would be better service knowing they want last.
I have to use my verizon mobile hotspot to work my 8 to 10 hours a day from home and it works fine when I work, but when we watch Netflix or UA-cam it kinda buffers so because of that we can't watch full movies online on our usual websites where we would always watch new movie releases or the kids aren't able to get online to play the ps3. So it sucks because we actually don't live too far from town. We are probably like at least 2 miles from town. CenturyLink always says there's not enough broadband width to come to OUR HOUSE but my mom whom lives so many feet away can get internet. We recently got our house built so the address is still new so maybe that could be a reason why they don't want to come and install? I can get a house phone with them but no internet...why the hell would i want phone and what i need is internet??? Definitely not getting a 2 year contract w any internet provider that isn't going to be reliable. Plus, the ones that I almost considered charge sooooo much and they take advantage of that because we live in rural areas....TRUMP NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT THAN WORRY ABOUT A WALL!!! Farmers and ranchers need fast internet to work and not just for pleasure!! Our kids need fast internet to do their homework also!!
iv'e never had hughes internet from what i heard about it and reviews I won't get hughes internet is terrible I absolutely agree with you hughes internet is garbage waste of money thats why i have dsl its way better than hughes internet my internet is fast i have no issues works perfect my internet is great no contract.
I made the mistake cannot even watch a video on UA-cam they would not take it back I boxed it threw it in the dumpster I actually closed my bank account so I would not have to pay I’ve never used credit or care about it that’s what they threaten me with go ahead don’t bother me none
Unfortunately no cell service from any of the providers where I live. Verizon DSL is the main option and that sucks a bag of D**ks. We have to have a landline in the house or no way to contact anyone in case of emergency. Was hoping this might work but the few folks I know that have tried don't like it either.
@Ptguy0618 Good luck maybe you can use cell service. I use MetroPCS when traveling with hotspot and they do not throttle speed anymore. Thankfully since I left this comment they have cable internet now.
So, my rural phone company was bought-out by Windstream years ago, and maintenance has been in decline ever since... We're out in the boonies, and more than a mile back off the road, so our DSL is 5-ish Mbps at the best of times. Since the mile+ of wire buried in the rocky drive, except where it has to come up to the utility poles to jump the creek, is over 20 years old and showing it. (Along with its associated junction boxes, splices.) So both the DSL and land line are a "sometimes" thing. And we can't get one bar on the cellphones at the house. Satellite is the only other option here... But it sounds like you got a bad installation. We had DirecTV satellite here, self-installed, and never had any technical issues. But I got the dish pointed right at the wide-open line-of-sight to the bird, then locked it down where a gale couldn't budge it. Only times we had signal fail was when there were high ice clouds (bringing Summer hailstorms) or the dish filled with snow in the Winter. (Fortunately, we did NOT have it on the roof, but down where I could hit it with a squirt bottle of warm water!) The "Up To XX Mbps" is pretty much universal jargon from all providers. I think my DSL is advertised as 50Mbps. The satellite companies appear to be the only ones who frequently exceed advertised speeds. (Consumer Reports.) Problem is all Internet Providers get miserable reviews online... When a utility works, nobody gives it a second thought. It's only when it fails that folks go online to raise hell about it. (Human nature.)
Use cellphone hotspot. You can also get unlimited hotspot for a few bucks more a month(cheaper than separate internet service) and get about 25 MBPS which is so MUCH better than Hughes or Windstream(Nostream) service. Talk to your cellphone provider about it!
It takes me 4 days just to upload one game from them on ps4. We’re going to media con now. My family fucking hates this company . They don’t help over the phone and all the do is blame you .
I paid my 106$ HughesNet bill on 7/19 and by 7/25 I can't even load email it's so slow. If I try to watch something they'll say 2 words and load for a min on and off so I'm paying 106$ for 6 days of of bad internet the other 22 days I'm SOL. I've had the service for about 5 yrs 100$ for 5 yrs and they can't improve. Come on Elon!!! UGH I had better internet with dial up in 1997.
With windstream I'm currently getting 0.78Mbps down and 0.55Mbps up, should be 3down 1up. I'm going to try the hot spot method, seriously thinking about Hugesnet but I'm going to try to avoid it if I can. Every option I have SUCKS!
Please do NOT get Hughesnet...you will be locked in for 2 years with a huge cancellation fee. You would be better off only using hotspot. Trust me on this one. Hughes sucks.
@@9mmsteve Your video made me decide not to go with hughesnet, but instead decided to go with Exede 50gb plan. Hopefully I have a better experience. I'm still going to be on a 2y contract though.
I'm on Windstream. (They bought out my rural phone company years ago.) When it's working right, my DSL is 5-ish down, .5 or so up. That would be acceptable, but the 20-odd year old mile+ (long farm access road) of flimsy copper wire with four junction boxes an assorted splices are showing their age, and Windstream has no inclination to replace it all. So we're SOL every time there a storm or strong wind. Only other option is satellite. Problem is ALL internet providers get horrible reviews because nobody makes noise about a utility service unless the have a problem with it.
Complete waste of time. I'm lucky if I can even delete an email lol! Watching UA-cam is nonexistent. Can't wait until I move to the city later this year so I can cancel this terrible construct.
Hughesnet is not a ISP for people who are able to get broadband internet! It is for RURAL AREAS WHERE NOTHING ELSE IS AVAILABLE . If fiber is available who in their right mind would sign up for satilite internet?? definitely without doing there research first. Most services offered you have to sign a contract so that's nothing new. I see speeds over 30mbs every day. After your 25g are used it does slow you down but it should still work well. If you had a poor install done ( like you said) that was most of the problem!! The dish has to be installed correctly and not be able to move or you will never get the service you are paying for. Bad installer not service. Sorry you had a bad experience, but some of it is your own fault for not researching what you were getting, would it take care of your needs and the type of usage you require.... If you're trying to use hughesnet as your main form of tv and only stream no.. Its not going to satisfy the need. Emails, social media, browsing, online shopping.. Yes it works get.

Guess I’m not going to get to work from home, which sucks.. heard someone mention Starlink coming soon?? Idk who they are. I do use my hotspot but I don’t think that would work for the type of business I’m in. Thanks again. So far I’ve dodged a bullet lol

Any of these companies that have you sign a contract are really bad business. Run run run. I wish I had been consulted before we were signed up.
Thank you so much for your honesty and letting it out so quickly most people don't do this and you're the best for it
going through the whole thing after my DSL internet company went bankrupt. Im screwed for at least another year unless I try your idea of calling my cc due to lack of service. You Sir are a good man..just wished I seen this 6 months ago. God have mercy on us all.
my feelings exactly!...i have viasat which is no better...i hope the owners of the sat internet companies lose every single customer and go completely broke when something better comes along....i despise them with all my being
Nicely done... thanks for the information.. was about to make a big mistake.
Pay for 25bs. Get 56k. 100$ a month. BUT after 2 am. You get 3mb. For 100$ a month
Call credit card company and block charges because they are not providing what they promised.
Thanks for the heads up
I got a letter from yhem.
Thank you brother I will take your word for it I was just about to pull the trigger and go for the stupid satellite company but not ever now! We’ll just go with the hotspot
Don't do it. Better off using you cell phone hotspot!
they scammed the hell out of my grandma they sent her a card that says it's from xfinity with their number on it this trash ass Wi-Fi doesn't even work If your planning on getting this shittynet for gaming *DO NOT FUCKING DO IT!!!*
they must give all your money back and shot the company down. I always check reviews and hughes net goodbye and not only hughes net any other satellite internet provider.
Soon Real 5G will free you from any internet carrier...it will be as fast as fiber optic and be from cell phone providers. T mobile(so far) will have the most complete and best type of 5G, especially for rural areas.
Well I hope the price is just about the same as Wi-Power. I’m currently paying about $70 for the lowest speed, which is still better than Hughesnet.
Use HOTSPOT from your cell carrier. Call them and get information.
Thank you for the review. It helped to make a decision about getting HughesNet
I would do anything besides Hughes. Plus they lock you into 2 years and they have a huge cancellation fee. Hotspot from your cell phone provider is much better and MUCH more reliable.
also once it runs out they try to sell you a very small upgrade but you have to sign another 2-year contract.
@@Midnight_Amber DONT SIGN UP FOR ANYTHING ELSE. ALL their programs are the same and suck.
9mmsteve got it a week ago because owed lots of money to Verizon, and it’s ridiculous. KFC has better WiFi. Can barely play mobile games.
It actually depends where you live on how fast the internet speed is
Correct, but to a degree. It will vary but not by much. You will not get what you need.
@@Asutoro I live in Seligman AZ, the only option is HughesNet or nothing. I've tried it out several times at the local hotel and it's way way better than my cell hotspot. I've seen it hit 30Mbps but also seen it freeze up in the evening. Need internet to work remote so still going with HughesNet.
This is 100% accurate I had to pay 500+ to cancel within a month of installation

Thanks for your review...I was considering HughesNet when I move to Arkansas.
Too late my mom already got the wifi and is 300kbs and I rather drive to a f### building then use that f### excuse of a wifi
we got hughs net
there is spectrum a mile away from 2 directions and spectrum says they cant service our section.
I have had hughes net gen 5 for over 5 years in az, this guy is correct but I have no choice.
It's really sad that people like you have no choice but you could move to a different area where they have multiple working internet
@@MysteriousJhirah were not just gonna move to get internet that would be stupid
I have a LAN cable connected to my PS4 and my HughesNet router, and I still get nothing over a megabyte.

This guy is correct. New customer here...they are one step away from thieves. Very misleading.
They are a total rip off....Thieves are exactly what they are.
i tried talking to their customer service people twice. once because my speed was horrible and he raised his voice to me in a threatening manner. he also didn't even know what i had been told i would receive. the second time i called was because my house had burned down. the first lady said i would not owe even the partial bill. the second lady i spoke to i made the mistake of mentioning that the first lady said i would not owe the partial bill. i was far from hateful and said it matter of factly. at first she seemed nice and said i will see what i can do. she paused a second and said ok, i am writing off the 50 you owe for your service and you are paying the 600.00 for your contract!!! i was not hateful at any point with this woman. i just lost my house and she was like that.
i went online to write a review but apparently they are controlled by these poorly ran companies as well. it is called consumer affairs. all i seen was great reviews highlighted by hughesnet and when i wrote a review i went to look at a past review i wrote and it had never been published!!! they simply sit on them if they're bad.
do not buy from these people. if you need ANY sort of customer service you will instantly regret it. there isn't ONE american person to speak to at all. it's probably not even an american company. definitely doesn't have american values. not one.
I did get good customer service but you're right, it's not an American company, it's in Sweden I believe but they use companies in India and places like that to run parts of the company business.
Use a DNS server. It will make your speed faster but don't expect NASA speeds. Look for a DNS app. I use Internet Optimizer. It will help.
The only bad thing about using your phone as a WiFi is that the phone get hot.
I use cell hotspots for mine. Checkout companies like Unlimitedville...offers hotspots with no throttling on 4G LTE, its as expensive as HughsNet, but alot faster and 30-90 pingrates...you can game on it!
Do you have unlimetedville? I was thinking of going with them but they wont help ke figure out which plan to get...
My DSL is usually between 0.2mbps and 1.Xmbps.. even being throttled I don't think this would be any worse than what I'm getting now.
Oh yes it is....Might a well have nothing...Horrible Hughes SUCKS.
Great video the information confirmed my research...
The BBB needs to investigate this horrible compsny
For reasons I never understood, Hughesnet has been protected by the FCC from big class actions...it seems.
Exede/Viasat got me, and that stupid fucking 2 year contract. I might not pay them and freeze my card shit.
Thank you for this! You saved me lots of $$$!
I use my t mobile hotspot and it loads Netflix and youtube videos pretty fast. I keep getting flyers about hugesnet no thanks
Call us I’ll set you up...I’m a sales rep for Hughes 😂
iv'e never had hughes internet from what i heard about it and reviews I won't get hughes internet is terrible I absolutely agree with you hughes internet is garbage waste of money thats why i have dsl its way better than hughes internet my internet is fast i have no issues works perfect my internet is great no contract.
MUCH THANKS ! MUCH APPRECIATE YOUR ADVICE!
I legit tried to do an internet speed test with Hughes net and it failed. It failed multiple times too ...
(Fortunately, we did NOT have it on the roof, but down where I could hit it with a squirt bottle of warm water!)
The "Up To XX Mbps" is pretty much universal jargon from all providers. I think my DSL is advertised as 50Mbps. The satellite companies appear to be the only ones who frequently exceed advertised speeds. (Consumer Reports.)
Problem is all Internet Providers get miserable reviews online...
@@9mmsteve Unfortunately, we can't get a cell signal back here either.
I agree with you that internet is annoying because of the buffering Zone
Damn dude that’s crazy. I only pay 50 a month. I get 250mbps up and down and there’s no cap
What company is that?
They are bad, I am telling u bad..
