Back when I was still married, he was in the Navy and I got really really good at shining shoes and ironing lol. I always tried to make sure everything about his uniforms was squared away so he didn't have to worry about it.
When in the army, i shined my boots a lot. But i did not remove the old top layer, cleaning, oiling, and impregnate the leather. Before putting on a new layer of cream and wax, and polishing. Thats what made this guys work better, he took it all the way.
I had to learn to clean and polish my own boots and shoes in the military. I have a lot respect for people who do this for a living. I remember a lady in Tampa Bay who had a shoeshine stand inside a prestigious hotel near the airport. She dressed elegantly in a business suit and she had a lot of hotel patrons as her customers.
When I was a kid, my Grandmother Always said that how a person takes care of their shoes was a good indication of how they paid attention to the other things in life. I'm 68 and to this day, one of the first things I notice is a person's shoes.

I miss getting my shoes shined. When I used to commute to New York there was a shoe shine shop in Penn Station. Those guys would make my beat up dress shoes shine like mirrors. They were very good at what they did and took pride in their work.
