What a fantastic tutorial - thank you so very much! I learned several things, confirmed a bit of what I'd discovered already, and will not doubt refer to it again.
Thanks! I have been at it awhile so I guess I am figuring it out. I have been creating training DVDs for about 20 years now but I just got serious about putting videos up on UA-cam a little over a year ago. George
WOW - I'll have to watch this numerous times and take really good notes to get through a task like this one by myself! I need to see if the guide lines can be darkened a little as they're very difficult to detect.,,think I'll try the medium blue to see if that'll work better. This was another great demo, George...thanks so much.
You're welcome! For those who don't know, here is how to change the color of the guidelines. Go to the Edit menu and open Preferences. In Preferences click on Guides and Grid, here you will find a drop down list with several color choices for the guidelines or you can click on the color swatch and choose any color you want using the Color Picker. George
Thank you, this is very helpful. A problem I have - When I copy and paste text into my shape, to make it large enough to read the point size has to be enormous.. Instead of 9 pt for example, it has to be around 100. or more! What am I doing wrong? Thank you.
Hi Sarah, the size of the type on the page is determined by two things, the point size of the type and the size of the image. If your image is 4x6 then the type will look larger on the page than if the page was 8x10. My guess is that you have a very large page size. George
What a beautiful tutorial. But now I would like to make a text in a standard heart shape and that does not work for me. I have PSE 2020. Can you explain this to me?
Hi Tracy, the same basic procedure should work for putting text around a square picture but for more word wrap abilities I would recommend using a more robust program like Adobe InDesign which is what I use for all my page layout work. George
Hi Tracy, InDesign is part of the Adobe Creative Suite. It is a little pricey but worth it if you are doing page layout seriously. You can find out more about the Adobe Creative Suite at Adobe.com George
You have the best tutorials on youtube. Just got an updated disk elements 15 and when I click on the tools, it won't bring them up. Is there something I can do to fix that or do I need to send software back to Ebay & buy somewhere else?
Hi Marilyn, thank you for the compliment. Getting these positive feedbacks in the comments really helps me to keep going. On the Photoshop Elements 15 disk. If the disk is original then I doubt that there would be any problem with the software. Make sure that you are viewing the correct portion of PSE. In Photoshop Elements 15 there are 4 tabs at the top of the window, eLive, Quick, Guided, and Expert. Make sure that you are in Expert Mode to follow along with my videos. Also some tools have small icons so they may not be readily visible on the project, text is one of those tools where it is sometimes hard to find the cursor since the cursor is just a thin vertical line with a top and bottom bar. Often hard to spot. What I do if I don't see the icon right away is to move the mouse around, then you should be able to quickly spot the cursor. You will actually see me doing this all the time in my videos, moving the cursor around in a circle so that I can quickly spot it, important while recording. There are a couple of other glitches in Photoshop Elements 15 that are bothersome, the biggest one is that after opening 100 files the Recently Opened file list freezes and won't show any files opened after that 100. You can reset all of the preferences to their default settings by double clicking Photoshop Elements to open it then holding down the ctrl-alt-shift keys together while it loads. Keep those keys held down until you get a popup window asking if you would like to reset the preferences. If that fails to fix the file list issue then I have another technique that is more involved which you will find in the video list for my channel but holding down the ctrl-alt-shift keys should fix it. If none of the above solves the problem and you are seeing the Tools Panel but not the tools when clicking on them then I would try reinstalling the software. That usually fixes any lingering problems. George
Thank you so much. Resetting the preferences back to original settings took care of it. Now it pulls up the different tools and the edit on the gradient. Works great now. You are the best!
Hi Cindy, no, you can't control kerning in PSE. That requires Adobe Photoshop. But if what you need to do is add more space between letters you can do that a bit with a work-around. Put a space between the letters and then control the size of the space by changing the font size of the space. Works pretty well for moving letters apart, but there is no work-around for pushing letters together. George
Hi Cynthia, you drag the guidelines onto the picture from the rulers. If you aren't seeing the rulers go to the View menu and click on Rulers. The guidelines will not print but they are very useful for aligning objects on the page. George
Just a couple questions. I'm brand new to PSE. I've created the shape. There is no "combine" button on my PSE18. Is simplify the same thing? Then, I simply can't figure out how to get the text tool to show a circle, at all. I get the square so I have to assume that I'm either missing a "step" or the simplify is not the same. Please help. This is something that I was able to complete in my other program and I do this type of journaling quite often. Thanks.
Hi Carla, the Simplify option on the right click on Layers converts a text layer or a vector shape layer into a regular bitmap image layer. You can't draw a circle shape with the text tool, how this is done in PSE is by making a circle shape or other shape using the Shape tool then adding text to that shape. Here is a video that may answer your questions. ua-cam.com/video/x8i45SDLd2s/v-deo.html George

Just use Text Inside Shape and pick the heart shape. Here is a video I did about that ua-cam.com/video/x8i45SDLd2s/v-deo.html
Your videos are very helpful. I wanted to have text around a square picture. Do I follow the same steps? Thank you

You mentioned changing the leading in text. Can you alter the kerning in PSE?
