BBC tracks down smuggler behind English Channel crossing which killed girl, 7 | BBC News

- A BBC investigation has tracked down a people smuggler who organised a small boat crossing to the UK in which a seven-year-old girl died.
Five people died in a crush onboard an overcrowded small boat as it crossed the English Channel, including the girl, named Sara.
Smugglers had packed over 100 people on to the inflatable vessel.
As of 26 June, 13,195 people had crossed the Channel in 2024 - above the numbers for the same period in the previous four years.

The RNLI are supposed to promote water safety but by continuously being a taxi service for the people smuggling trade they are doing the complete opposite! and just encouraging more and more to risk the crossing from safe country France.
What are they supposed to do? Their only job is to stop people dying at sea. The organisations to blame are the French police and the asylum system in the UK that takes way too long to process applicants.
The RNLI wish the government would stop basically forcing their hand as it is going hand in hand with record low levels of charitable support from the public. People always gave generously to save sailors lives, but now they're at risk because the RNLI is overwise busy doing something the majority of the public do not want to support
@@DreadWaaaghGaming If migrants set foot on UK soil without prior authorisation, they are considered to have entered the UK unlawfully. This triggers their immediate arrest, detention and processing under the Immigration Act 1971. Amazing BBC can find trafficer and authorities cannot. Perhaps they were not looking.
If it is possible for reporters to track down these smugglers, the question needs to be asked, why can’t European governments with MIi5 and MI6 and such organisations locate and jail them and put a stop to the nonsense?

To those who comment that belittle the issue or criticize the father... Have you asked about the circumstances that pushed the father to this state? Have you lived in a country where you only have a name and immigrated to a country where you wished to live a life with the simplest elements of humanity to feel like a human being, only to find it uglier than your country in the way it treats people based on race? Have you ever entered a cycle of to be or not to be? Have you ever woken up from your sleep and not even known who you are? Do you blame the person who immigrates illegally? Did he find a legal way and not resort to another mechanism? He thought about returning to Iraq, but Iraq refused to return his children because they do not hold Iraqi citizenship (they were born in the country of immigration).
I thought the UK Special Forces were meant to be the best in the World at clandestine ops. So why havent they been deployed to eradicate the smuggling gangs? If they can't do it perhaps they should recruit those BBC reporters to show them how it's done.
