  • Wyatt Scott here with all transmitters to full, all receivers to boost. When you can snatch the Rancid from my hand, it is time for you to carry the torch!
Lars Frederiksen of Rancid grew up on Sharmon Palms Lane in Campbell CA in the Bay Area. It was to say at the least a very rough upbringing as the area was chalk full of bikers and gangs; a scary and legit white ghetto neighborhood. Lars, and his brother, were as a result of their environment, both drawn into a gang, likely a survival tactic, called the Skunks, growing up in the area.
This song encapsulates that experience of Lars's as well as Tim Armstrong's rough upbringing in an alcoholic family and subsequent struggles with addiction himself and feelings of nihilism.
Nihilism (/ˈnaɪ(h)ɪlɪzəm, ˈniː-/; from Latin nihil 'nothing') is a philosophy, or family of views within philosophy, that rejects generally accepted or fundamental aspects of human existence, such as knowledge, morality, or meaning. The term was popularized by Ivan Turgenev, and more specifically by his character Bazarov in the novel Fathers and Sons.
It's brilliant punk rock lyrics, music and messages baby! For me personally, for most of my life I have felt as if this existence is some sort of a bad nightmare. There is so much beauty and joy of course, but so much unnecessary pain caused by evil. We have to work on ourselves to keep the faith in the face of all the evil we must fight in this life. But, it's a funny thing, ironic even as Alanis sang. If you haven't had some serious struggles in life to overcome, you will be hard pressed to bring the magic!
    Nihilism
    Hey!, Hey!, Hey!, Hey!
    Come into the Union District
    Drive down on Sharmon Palms
    White ghettos paint a picture
    Broken homes and broken bones
I was so full of scotch, I could not stand up
I was hittin’ the shots and I moved to a cup
    Release me from moral assumption
    Total rejection, total destruction
Nihilistic feeling - s’ are movin’
If you try really hard, you see right through them
    Nihilism!, Nihilism!, Nihilism!, Nihilism!
    Walkin’ a path of self-destruction
    Not affected by the repercussion
Lady on the billboard offered me a drink
Said right not now, I need time to think
    Nihilistic feeling…s are movin’
    If I try real hard
    I’ll see right through them
    Nihilism!, Nihilism!, Nihilism!, Nihilism!
I was so full of scotch, I could not stand up
I was hittin’ the shots and I moved to a cup
When you come in Union District
And you drive down Sharmon Palms
    White ghetto paints a picture
    Broken homes and broken bones
    Yeah, broken bones!
    Hey!, Hey!, Hey!, Hey!

the current state of British punk rock ...my god it's healthier than its been in years ....at 30.27.. is a track that shows a new direction for the sound but keeps the soul...punk feels very much alive with this band

no band right now. I was in a ton of punk bands growing up in the 80’s and 90’s. Opened for the Ramones in 88’ and the Business in 97’, a couple highlights of my short musical career. It’s tough as you get older what with job and family stuff taking up most of my time. Would love to find some like minded guys to play with and get up on stage again, but that’s super tough to find. I don’t have time to fuck around with amateurs at this point. Need to be pros if i’m gonna devote the time and energy cause it’s gotta seriously kick ass or it’s not worth it.

I moved to London from Italy 7 years ago and like was before I just played around Europe for a couple of years but then suddenly I disbanded , COVID etc ...so I can say I miss all of that and what we can still say even I'm not sure we can say something to the new generations ..they won't listen
