The music thing is mostly in the way they elongate the vowels while singing. Longer vowels make it sound flatter on the ears, and usually more 'american' although there's definitely imitation in some cases as well

the difference between most manga and most comics is that manga shows what happens, step by step, as in a movie, while comics narrate action, like in a book. that's how frank miller can make a 42 pages long comic book that feels like a movie and manga needs 300 pages to have something similar in lenght. that's also why comics are so heavy on text.
