@Mikko Alanen the bear was apparently protecting her cub. poor reasoning. it seems more like revenge. as noted above, bears are predators. you don't wander into their habitat and expect them to behave as humans.
I think they had to euthanise the Sow and her cub because, for bears they memorise their food/ hunting etc from their mother. If the cub grows up it will have the memory of it’s mother attacking the human-the cub may attack humans in the future not just as a defence but but for food as well.
I will never understand why people put theirselves in these kind of situations..I feel sorry for them when these things happen but still I myself will not go into their space..
It’s not difficult to understand. 1. It’s extremely rare for bears to attack humans (~180 fatal attacks since 1784 in North America) 2. People like being in nature Your car is by orders of magnitude more likely to kill you than is a bear, even if you were to live in Alaska. Do you go in cars?

I thought the same. But after researching the story, the man who was killed was fed upon after the attack. So, the concern was accurate ... the bear might learn to prey upon people as a food item, which they normally don't do. So euthanization was justified.

I was scouting in a very active bear and cougar area and I had my 375 HH bolt gun with one in the pipe. I ran into two hikers going out into the wilderness when I was coming in and when we got close to each other I could tell that the sight of my rifle made them uneasy. They both had hammers on their hips swinging in little belted hammer holders, like what you would see on tool bags. Trying to be friendly and kill the tension I excitedly asked them, while pointing at their hammers, if they were going prospecting. The guy, who was wearing a kilt (one of those guys) and had arms smaller then my sisters, in a confident but ever so slightly annoyed tone, responded by saying; “no, we have these in case we have to scare a bear off.” The pressure from the laughter and scoff built up inside of me had me feeling like an overinflated balloon. I kept it together and showing concern asked them; “you know there are tons of bears here right? And there’s been multiple cougars killing farmers animals in the outskirts of town.” He responded, once again in that snobby, annoyed tone; “that’s what we have our bells for, the noise should scare anything off.” I bid them farewell and wished them a good time out in the wilderness. The bitter laughter and audible mockery of their foolish words made the remaining 3 mile trek to my truck seem like 100 yards. That is 100% true and I never saw them again.

And to kill the innocent cub just because they witnessed the attack? Horrible. Do you want every bear to forget it's natural instincts of how to kill? It's a wild animal! It needs to kill to survive. It can't just go food shopping. Any other bear would have done the same, so if you kill this one, you may as well kill them all because they're just as much of a hazard. approx 30 years ago my wife was with a wilderness hiking group hiking in the Absoraka Range which is close to yellowstone... Some of the members came upon the remains of a person who had been tenting out in the back country... Appeared to have been a bear attack... Yes they did report what they found to the authorities
On our trip to Wyoming with my husband and 2 small sons, we had a close encounter with a large grizzly when camping next to the Shoshone river. We were in out tent lying down, fire still going but dying down just outside and had enough light to see a massive shadow of a bear come right up next to our tent. A tense situation to be sure, I literally dug my nails into my husband's arm while holding my breath. Fortunately it moved on but we had taken so many precautions as well. The following morning we saw a lot if them on the other side of the river, some babies included. Same thing when we were in Cody, we saw them early morning playing around by the river. It was beautuful to see but we were quiet spectators who admired and just moved on. Safety tips - Leave your food in your car Ladies, if it's that time of the month, yes, animals can smell it. So just be aware Wear bells and make noise if hiking and try not to hike alone. I've seen tourists do a lot of weird shit out there. Like boiling eggs in the hot springs, or walking right up to bisons. People have to remember you are in their habitat, not yours!!
Yep. The Shoshone river is a highway for the bears. I love bears, had multiple encounters myself. I don't fear them but respect them.when I do fear them, it's after the fact. When I was too close, but they knew in was there but I jadd no clue.
Pat Earl Not true. You're thinking of the chimpanzee where this has happened several times. For whatever reason, they will be triggered to attack. Bears, if raised from a cub, will live peacefully as a pet with humans upwards of 50 years until they pass with not so much as a bite or scratch. There are videos on UA-cam of families who raised bears and it's amazing.
I get it, this is a dramatic situation and very scary too, but killing the bear is a stupid solution. If anything either educate people on what to do during a bear encounter or not let people go there at all. That is bear territory and they have the right to defend themselves and hunt us if they want to. We are going there at our own risk. They should make people sign waivers before entering the park. As a human being I feel sorry for the lost of a person, but we are the ones putting ourselves in those type of situations so let's embrace the consequences. I hate when I hear that a bear is going to be euthanized because of this. I went to Yellowstone this year, and believe me, I was very aware of the danger, but it was my decision to go there and would have never agreed to killing an animal if I would've done something stupid.
This isn't about you and isn't your choice if the bear attacks you. If its tasted human blood it will go after more humans. These hunters then must kill the animal to prevent that. These people do you a favor so you don't run across a bear like that in the forests. These traits are also then inherited by the bear's cubs meaning it can cause a chain of increased bear attacks. This is nature and the reason we are at the top of the food chain because we have the brains to prevent stuff like this.

Bears forage for food and hunt for food this is what they do. Would you walk into a bear cage at the zoo? Well when you walk into his forest your doing the same. Newton Washington - Are you for real? 2 cans of bear spray each? If the spray isn't going to work against an attack, you wont get a chance to finish the first can before the bear is on you!
1. It’s extremely rare for bears to attack humans (~180 fatal attacks since 1784 in North America)
2. People like being in nature

They’re probably dead…

Bears looking through the car window: ayeeee baby lemme get that numberrrr
Safety tips -
Leave your food in your car
Ladies, if it's that time of the month, yes, animals can smell it. So just be aware

I've seen tourists do a lot of weird shit out there. Like boiling eggs in the hot springs, or walking right up to bisons.

"Friendly " bears who are buddied up with a human usually end up turning on them eventually
The man's expression from the thumbnail is already like, "Ok, I'm f**ked"
800 bears roaming around but you still want to go hang out with no weapon...
This park should be shut down ASAP! and let the bears live there lives without the presence of the tourists intruding in there territory!
@@sunnydhanoa7756 sigh* it's there nature to kill someone when they feel threaten and the cubs will eventually learn the predatory behavior even without its mother. It is a fking predator. I wrestled and won 3 states. Then I wrestled a bear when I was 19. THAT was the toughest match by far and it only lasted 60 seconds. The bear was trained not to hurt humans, but it was supposed to win. It was owned by Tuffy Truesdale, a professional wrestler. I am one of the only ppl to have ever lasted 60 seconds with the bear, because I did something I highly recommend: I got right up to the bear and hung on to it's belly hair for dear life. It was a trained bear with a muzzle. Humans cannot beat bears. A bear will eat you like caviar.
Donald Blankenship I said a grizzly bear in the early 70's that wrestled. An ISU wrestled threw him in his back in one quick move. They had too pull the guy old when it started swinging. Was called a draw.
they shoot a bear and her cub because a human was stupid,... real nice guys good job, if you are in bear country you need to be with someone for 1 and make noise, you both need 2 cans of bear spray each, and a side arm and rifle if necessary and the bear spray did not work you shoot a warning shot, if still no sign of the bear stopping its charge then you need to protect your life and stop the bear but that is a last resort. Bears forage for food and hunt for food this is what they do. Would you walk into a bear cage at the zoo? Well when you walk into his forest your doing the same. Bears can smell you 7 miles away there nose is 4 times better than a blood hound.
Newton Washington - Are you for real? 2 cans of bear spray each? If the spray isn't going to work against an attack, you wont get a chance to finish the first can before the bear is on you! You have 3 options in an attack, especially with a Grizzly. 1: you can let the bear attack you and hope to survive. 2: you can carry bear spray and hope that it works. 3: Forget the spray, shoot the bear, and hope that your aim is true. You advocate the use of deadly force if absolutely necessary, but criticize that the bear got shot. SMH.... The bear got shot because it a: killed someone, and b: it is now more likely to a bigger threat than ever before.
