BMW R100R 1992 - transmission output seal fail

- Hello!
This is my 1992 BMW R100R. The bike is in pretty good shape, but i have seen a few drops of oil as you can see in the video after I ride it. It bacame more serious on a long trip when oil gathered on the rear wheel and on the outside of the paralever.

Thanks for showing this! Could you recommend what to check for when purchasing one of these bike?
Check for oil leaks. Or leaks in general. This bike has a lot of orings and seals. If well maintained, all these seals must be in good condition. Engine compression test should also be a reliable source of info about the engine’s condition.
I discovered this is a reliable bike, but it needs maintenence. Orings and seals are the weekpoints and need to be replaced by the book in order not to have a bad trip. Otherwise, I love it!

@@mvooo It's the stuff you can't see on these bikes that are the real issues, such as spline inspection and "does it or does it not have the circlip?" issues.
Did you end up replacing the output seal?

I had one, but there was something wrong with the front brakes I had to hit hard the have some power, then all of a sudden, the front wheel would be blocked. Which is dangerous… I don't understand, it's Brembo, usually more than reliable. I must admit, I had to sell it. Anyone else had that problem ?
Mine has been sitting in a garage for 8 years when I bought it and I used it right away. After a few hundred km, my front wheel brake was dragging really serius. I remember I take the calipers apart on the side of the road (better said off road) and it was raining. Cleand the pistones gently and lubed. Continued the season and made 4000km with no problems
@@lastairhead Mine was brand new. So there was something wrong with the brakes ? Even at the BMW dealers, they would not hear about it…

@@pateris Mine has the two discs, and I can brake very strong with two fingers...
