Going to an appoint with my mum on the 23rd of this month and you have given me such an insight and I have the right questions to ask x Thank you so much ❤️
Hey thanks for this wonderful information, the help and peace of mind it offers to so many. Your compassion and passion for helping others along with your field of work really shines through. I was wondering if you have any info on the neck and occipital neuralgia.
Very helpful and informative video. Thank you. I’m about to be 51 years old was recommended posterior cervical laminoplasty for C4-7. I have herniated nucleus pulposus at 6-7 with significant cord compression. With this surgery, it looks like the trap door leaves the spinal cord exposed. Could it move around, and if so is that dangerous? I intend to plan this surgery in the upcoming months while my I’m in relatively good health. I feel I might recover quicker than if I wait 10+ years. I’m just worried because my pain now is tolerable and I can function normally just a little slower and less active. I’m worried that if I get the surgery now what is the success rate and could I be risking coming out with issues that were not present before the surgery? Long post, sorry. Any comments/thoughts are appreciated.
I’m a physical therapist. I have treated a few patients with this surgery. What is the expected ROM afterwards, any loss or close to WNLs? Healing constraints? Protective phase first 6 weeks, etc? Thanks enjoy your videos and have shared them with my patient’s and physicians!
I'm interested to make an appointment to see you since you mentioned that this procedure might be a good option in my case of osteoporosis and cervical stenosis. I am not in California so do you accept virtual appointments? all 3 surgeons I saw never brought up this procedure all said the same thing get osteoporosis treated first then come back. I wonder why.
@@Beencouraged777 It is when they open the entire cervical spine on one side and install hinges on the worse side to relieve the pressure off the spinal cord. I had this as an emergency. God awful
What can be done about calcification of the posterior longitudinal ligament? I don't want it cut and have my head hang down. My canal is now at 6mm and the pain is crazy. I get an MRI soon then see the surgeon. Any suggestions??
I will have to have this surgery according to my neurologist. I don’t think he is using this particular hardware. Do you have any idea of a provider in the greater Chicago area that might be able to do this. Unfortunately I cannot come to you. I wish I could
What do you recommend, Doctor? I'm doing a C3-C6 cervical laminoplasty and my doctor in Brazil said about doing it in alternate sides. Which is better? Same side or alternate sides?
There are some studies that show that a laminectomy and fusion lead to less progression of opll then would laminoplasty because of the persistent motion
I have herniated disc in my lumbar and the symptom is persistent in my back as well as in stomach area. However Im curious about tingling sensation in my abdomen when I seat down or wear trousers like lose jeans or cargo I have nerve pinch and tingling sensation in my stomach area but doctors are not able to diagnose about this issue I just wanna know does herniated disc normally cause nerve pinch and tingling sensation in abdomen wall I mean can we expect this symptoms in abdomen. Thank you
Dr Riew was the only spine surgeon who offered this alternative to having cervical fusions. I can not say enough about him as a Dr or as a truly remarkable individual. It has been nearly 8 years since the surgery. I certainly have no regrets. I highly recommend him and the surgery. It was a life saver for me !!!
I’ve watched his conference presentations. He’s confident, and very impressive. His colleagues have high praise for him. You are lucky you had him as your surgeon.
Great Video, Excellent demonstration and explanation of what happens during a Cervical Laminoplasty.

You can always do a virtual appointment with me by calling 415-925-8200. It is not a problem for the spinal cord to be exposed
I had a 4 level laminoplasty 10 months ago. I still have soreness and tightness on my shoulder and neck especially when I'm moving around.
I’m having mine done on May 31 , C3 to C7 and some shaving
Can you make a video on surgical options for spondylolysis please
Watch the isthmic spondylolisthesis play list

It is typically within 80% of normal range of motion

You can call California orthopedics and spine to make a zoom appointment
If you had all this done what happens if you fell?? Would you be paralyzed??
I HAD C3 TO C6 SURGERY.WON'T THE ANESTHESIA GO AWAY AND IS IT NORMAL THAT SOMETIMES THE SIDE OF THE CUT IS STIFF
I had this surgery a few years back. It was the most painful surgery I had.
yes it is
I had it also, but don’t remember it being painful.

You should see a surgeon. Opll can be treated.
Just a question; do you tighen up the whole plates with all the screws placement or only one to each side suffice?
Plates get fixed to both sides
Do you suggest fusion at L4 if you already have fusion at L5 S1? The pain is constant and continues to get worse. I am 64 at present.
It depends what the imaging study shows.

You could certainly try Midwest orthopedics at Rush
How often should you get epidural injections?
I have a few epidural injection videos you should watch
Hi, i read something about shorten life expectancy after this surgery, may you kindly elaborate?
That is not necessarily the case with the surgery
What do you recommend, Doctor? I'm doing a C3-C6 cervical laminoplasty and my doctor in Brazil said about doing it in alternate sides. Which is better? Same side or alternate sides?
Whatever your surgeon is comfortable with I would go with
But in terms of biomechanics is there a better option in your opinion?
would this procedure be contraindicated for opll?
There are some studies that show that a laminectomy and fusion lead to less progression of opll then would laminoplasty because of the persistent motion
Ohh 😢 I didn't know that it would be so painful. How long should it be before I start feeling better?? 5 days post-op
12 weeks you will feel quite a bit better
Talk about SPINAL STENOSIS please..
I have a playlist on lumbar and cervical stenosis

You may want to get an MRI scan of the thoracic spine which can cause abdominal tingling.

Thank you doctor.
That looks very painful
I had this surgery done in NYC @ the Allen Hospital in 2015. The surgery was performed by Dr Daniel Riew.
