Premier ballet remonté par Rudolf Noureev après son passage à l’Ouest, Raymonda entre au répertoire du Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris en 1983. À l’affiche de l’Opéra Bastille du 3 au 31 décembre, cette fantaisie médiévale met en scène l’histoire d’amour de Raymonda et du chevalier Jean de Brienne face aux convoitises d’Abderam, chef des Sarrasins. Le fantasme de l’inconnu et de l’Orient guide la jeune fille dans l’apprentissage de son désir. Entre deux répétitions, les danseurs Dorothée Gilbert, Stéphane Bullion et Paul Marque reviennent sur leurs personnages et les spécificités techniques du langage de Noureev qui s'attache à mêler danse classique, de caractère et contemporaine et à revaloriser la danse masculine. Les somptueux décors de Nicholas Georgiadis et la partition d’Alexandre Glazounov contribuent à magnifier ce grand ballet du répertoire.

Raymonda is the first ballet that Rudolf Nureyev revived after his flight to the West. It entered the Paris Opera repertoire in 1983. Performed on the Bastille Opera stage from December 3rd to 31st, this flamboyant medieval tale shows the love story of Raymonda and Knight Jean de Brienne threatened by Abderam, chief of the Saracen, and his desire for the princess. The fantasy aroused by the unknown and the Orient will guide the young girl through the discovery of her womanhood. Between two rehearsals, dancers Dorothée Gilbert, Stéphane Bullion and Paul Marque tell us more about their characters and the technical challenges specific to Nureyev’s body language, a language that blends classical, character and contemporary dance, while reaffirming the importance of male’s parts. The gorgeous sets by Nicholas Georgiadis as well as Alexandre Glazounov’s score largely contribute to the splendour of this great masterpiece.

he highlights the romantic aspect of the ballet more than the medieval conception. it is his own interpretation.
