"A house should be a backdrop that stimulates life rather than dominates it"
Well said
lm in New Zealand and saw your house years ago, which changed my life. I loved it, never forgot it and went on to buy a commercial building to live and work in myself . 7 years later now I adore my building and love how well it works for me … I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your inspired innovation : )
I wouldve loved to see more spaces of this house
his own site doesn't show much .. www.jonathantuckey.com/work/collage-house/
... this is a little better .. www.dezeen.com/2017/02/13/movie-collage-house-jonathan-tuckey-home-19th-century-workshop-tapio-snellman-london-uk/
The BBC series "Grow your own drugs" with James Wong shows the kitchen and garden as well.
The editing of this series is disappointing. Obviously they took the time to shoot it well, but the editing diminishes the viewers understanding of these interesting spaces.
I would love to see more of the rooftop and what inspired it. Lovely space!
When he says "20 Years" sounds like he's saying "tortillas"
tortillas provided the canvas for him and his family to grow up
That’s a lot of tortillas over 20 years
You must have dough in your ears
Fantastic. I like that it was built about 20 years ago and still looks so modern. Really like the natural elements incorporated into the living space, and how apart it seems to be from it all while you can still see the rooftops of surrounding buildings. Very well done Jonathan.
I adore this home and the space. Especially love the kitchen/dining area. It's exactly what I would like to live in myself. Thanks for sharing.
I love the openness and the lived-in, historic look and feel of the house. The exposed bricks and the ceiling windows with the chandeliers did it for me! Magical!
This is one of the most beautiful homes i've seen.. the court yard, the outside view of the home... it's so amazingly gorgeous.
THAT HOUSE IS AWESOME! I APPRECIATE YOU SHOWING THIS WONDERFUL PLACE!!!!
Saw this on another channel a few years back that had a little more footage and different angled shots on that relaxing courtyard. Between that and the trussed ceiling area alone has that place looking very nice. That brick wall has the color and look that just draws me to it, which is odd as I use to dislike the industrial look, not sure why, but man do I love it now. Thanks for posting.
How the heck does he keep that place warm?
jumpers
So I live in a stone house with no heating or insulation; sunlight only hits it until around midday and then it gets pretty chilly right after. You kinda just get used to it. We resort to loads of clothing and small indoor burners during the worst days (around -6C outdoors; -10 indoors), and it works just fine. Usually, our temps sit around 10 degrees Celcius, except during the really hot days, then we're thankful it's a cool house.
they very well could have installed underfloor heating. that's what i'd do in a space like that
Probably warm deck roof and external insulation.
I literally GASPED at the bathroom
Looking with pleasure at this beautiful space, I saw three Orthodox icons! What a pleasant surprise!!!!!

Would love to live in London!... But sadly I’m not an oligarch...
Don't be sad to not be a member of an oligarchy, they're mostly inhuman, soulless creatures. Im talking elite/political factions. Filled with darkness to commit such atrocities upon humanity. But, the House is gorgeous. Don't know who the family are nor what factions they affiliate to. Do elaborate on your meaning to ensure I have not misinterpreted your meaning, thank you 😊
Shaishannah Bennett think it was more of a comment pointed at Russian oligarchs and the likes moving money offshore by buying super expensive properties in London. Central London has extortionate pricing because of foreign investment, a well known fact. If you go out, it’s a bit more affordable. Queen’s Park is not off the scale. Admittedly, compared to areas just half an hour by train it’s laughable in terms of property prices but ultimately a couple with well paying jobs and a rudimentary understanding of saving could help get on the ladder there and climb it over time, with help from parents of course
@@oliverbolton8302 nyc real estate crashed and people exodus nyc since you can work from home and moved to suburbs I am surprised this didn't happen in london?
@@DeepThinkingGPU I am not too knowledgeable on the subject, but from what I understand New York was incredibly expensive in terms of overall living - plus people hated it there. London for the most part has people that love living there. Of course there are people moving away, because it is extremely busy and loud etc but it is still thriving quite a bit. It has a lot of attractions. Long term we will have to wait and see but big ticket sales for expensive properties are still happening a lot at the moment as per domus nova press releases. I don’t anticipate we will go to a 5 day wfh week, which should cause some people to stay in London. There is currently a stamp duty holiday (effectively a tax incentive) so that may be artificially growing demand for now. Let’s wait and see what happens following the end of the holiday
@@DeepThinkingGPU It has happened to a degree. Sales to the surrounding counties of London are at an all time high. Especially villages that offer country living but are still within a commutable distance.
Really stunning. Incredible. (And, for my American friends, he says at 1:54 “had 20 years”, not “had tortillas”). 😂
Lmaoo I thought he just really likes tortillas til I read ur comment
@fo shizzle I had to watch it like 5 times and the whole time I’m like “no way this guy likes tortillas that much” 😂😂
Awesome house!!!
Beautiful concepts. Will certainly want to try out something similar here in South Africa.
amazing......
Smashing!!!

One day I’ll live in a home like that 😌
awesome :)
Fantastic house, would like to the the whole.
Love it. Where’s the rest at?
Money can indeed buy happiness. Splendid home. Just beautiful
Can wait until he starts work on it will look great once its started
this is amazing house, love it !!!
Dream house ... (swoon) I have some 1940’s furniture (lawn) that would look bomb in that space. (Makes sign of the cross, promises to work on envy)
//Amazing Home 😍
The court yard !
very nice and very successful reconstruction from my point of veiw, not so sterile as usually new modern developers projects look like
this can be achieved in all parts of the world.
This is amazing! Its not easy to make an "industrial loft style" interior so warm and welcoming. They have perfected to use of interior and exterior windows in this house.
Was this house on The House that 100k Built at some point? It looks familiar and that is my favourite show.
Hey ! How about dog . Is outside cold ? and how paper ship back . Love your style.
300000000000 likes!!! Great 👏👏👏👏
Do those ceiling windows open up?
How do they heat that kitchen-living area? There's no insulation on the roof, most of the time there's no Sun either?
He likely pulled the old roof off, insulated on top of the roof and put a new roof on.
How well is this place heated in the winter?
my first thought would be radiant heat, which you wouldn't see
😍👊🏼💪🏼
Please make these videos a bit longer
Amazing house ! I would love to get out of rent trap and live under my roof.
“...not prescriptive...” Lovely space.
❤❣
I feel like there's this narrative that gets perpetuated online about the crafty, design savvy do it yourselfer who buys a run-down property in an expensive place and then puts in their own blood sweat and tears to transform it into a beautiful oasis with only a modest investment.
As a new homeowner who got a deal on an architercturally fascinating house in a fancy area that needed some work, I feel like this story is just flawed. It's not the hard work, although holy shit I've never worked so hard in my life. It's the amount of monetary investment involved in making even small changes, not to mention things like permit requirements and associated costs. The idea of DIY gutting a building and remaking it into something beautiful on the cheap like they so often show in these videos is just a myth.
Well thankfully this video didn't show that. This man is clearly very rich!
@@thegreaterconundrum Yeah, kind of. They label him as an "architectural designer", which isn't a career path that would ordinarily provide for a custom luxury home in London. He must have family money or own a studio or something, which is never explicitly stated. The only reason I know he's rich is because he has to be to have built that house.
Of course it's really expensive! I mean, I get what you mean, and point taken, but I think most people would understand that this isn't actually 'easy', or even doable at all, for the average person. To buy a house in london at all, whatever the house, is extremely expensive, never mind everything else that comes with renovating one.
I don't get any impression from the video that says it was done cheaply. They just show the nice converted home. He didn't even mention the cost or easy to do it. As a DIY enthusiast it clearly is expensive and lots of work. But that was not the point of the video
This video made no mention of price, cost, or diy (other than the design) so using this particular video to make your particular rant is misplaced and, well, petulant.
