  • For the first time in history, Calayan Island was blessed by the visitation of the image of Our Lady of Manaoag from March 18 to 21. Traveling for 11 hours all the way from Manaoag, Pangasinan she first had to stop over Lyceum of Aparri on March 16. This made the Aparri people more than happy to celebrate Masses and vigil for her. Then on March 18 she travelled for 6 hours by boat to reach Calayan island. Along the way, the boat crew prayed the complete 20 decades of the rosary before her grand fluvial procession with the fishermen. Other activities include boat blessing, distribution of rosaries and candles, Marian concert (March 18), final graduation of our mission High School (SBA) students (March 19), grand land procession (March 20), dawn Masses and farewell procession(March 21). She also graced the Chrism Mass of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao on March 22 in Gattaran. The Dominican missionaries (Brs. Lovell Javier and Rudolf Seño) are very grateful to Br. Napoleon Sipalay Jr., OP, and his Manaoag community & all Calayan parishioners for allowing such an event to happen. Her visitation is a wonderful way of celebrating the year of mercy and the Dominican Jubilee because many of the islanders (who are mostly poor fishermen and farmers) could not afford to visit her in Manaoag.
