Hi Amy Beth! I’m so glad to have found you again! I followed you back when I was knitting like a fiend, but then two things happened- my hands were in constant pain and the knitting world got so political, and so I pretty much stopped knitting and watching knitting podcasts. I had hand surgery and transitioned to cross stitch. And here we are four years later and I’ve found you again, and you’re doing all the things I love- stitching, quilting and knitting! I didn’t realize how much I missed you! Beautiful finish of the Rooster! Thanks for your revelations on big stitch quilting! The felt Easter eggs are quite lovely. It’s been nice visiting with you again.
Hey! I’m in the same boat! I stopped watching all knitting podcasts too and love Rav at the time. I’m creeping back now and found her again and am enjoying. My little sister’s name is Amy Beth too, I forgot that was her name.
Thanks for another great book segment. I have added 2 to my list of things to look for. Filter world sounds intriguing, from a maker's perspective. A lot of what you said about how the algorithm can influence what a maker produces really hit home and is something I have been thinking about for about a year without really being able to out my finger on it.
Congratulations on finishing your beautiful Rooster, it is absolutely stunning. I appreciate how that project was with you during different phases of your life. Isn't it wonderful how crafts can wait for us, until we have time, energy and enthusiasm enough to complete.
I think you'd enjoy the writer Cory Doctorow. I thought you were talking about one of his books for several minutes and had to go back and check the name of the book and author. I love your rooster, it's so beautiful! I think you should record in that upstairs space more often because I loved seeing the bookcase and the light was so soft. I bet it's a cozy nook!
I am not a knitter but am definitely a stitcher and quilter and maker, I guess. So LOVE the eggs, the Cross Stitch, the quilting and project bags etc. and the reading....thank you.
I "watched" this while dozing on the couch under the influence of allergy medication. I guess I'll just have to watch it a second time when I'm lucid! Thanks for being there.
If I have not mentioned the UA-cam channel, Cups and Thoughts, let me do that now. By a young Asian woman living in Australia who loves books and does amazing annotating. In addition, the show scratches my very big itch for all things stationary, pens, and creativity on paper. No voice, just words on the screen. Very relaxing and mood lifting. You will love everything she has and does. Also she loves anime’ and there are so many trips to bookstores. About 15 minutes so perfect length for that content. Thanks for everything.
Hello Amy Beth, Just found your channel and you are so much fun to watch. You find so many things to talk about and you have so much talent in your speaking and crafts. I have to go back and watch more of your videos. Love love that cross stitch rooster. Would you be willing to sell the pattern ? Or borrow? Thank you Barbara
Your chicken sampler is wonderful! Congratulations on getting it finished. Those projects you keep for years because they are worth completing are so joyful when they are finished,😁
Your rooster looks great! Worth the wait! I’m interested in all your crafty adventures, and your thoughts on books as well. You’re inspiring me to pull out my sewing machine and try making some basic pet blankets. ❤
Thanks for sharing your procrastinated rooster. Yesterday I found 80 appliqué quilt blocks that I never put together! They are not enough for a twin- so I’ll just put them together for a throw. “Done is better than perfect!” But it was a fun surprise from 18 years ago!
I find the algorithm discussion interesting. We also have always had our tastes shaped by people like movie/tv/book/music producers. There’s so much less of a barrier to creation now than there used to be, but we are only being shown a fraction of it due to algorithms. Is it better to have producers filter the art, or have the algorithm do it? There’s so much out there that it’s overwhelming sometimes.
Congratulations on finishing the rooster piece! My mom was working on a Noah’s ark sampler for my whole childhood, more or less. She said every time she started working on it we would spill koolaid on it and it would hibernate again.
Now you’ve got me thinking about choices. How much is free choice when you might have no or little choice in some places in the world or more choices when born into privilege. Not what the book is about but it got me thinking and I’d love to hear opinions from the teenage and young adults who grow up in the shadow of algorithms from the start. Thank you for sharing. Your rooster is an heirloom for sure.
I so appreciate your thoughtful comments on, well everything. I find myself nodding to my screen, and then laughing at myself, or thinking, oh, I never considered that, or similar thoughts. It was also interesting to hear your comment about your knitting. My crafting energies and directions also wax and wane, and change over time. I’m always wondering if it’s a lack of commitment on my part, maybe sometimes. But I think it’s not so much that, as that for me crafting is not so much about becoming as expert as I can at something, and more about interacting with my surroundings in a way that feeds my soul. That sounds woo woo and I’m sure I could express it better. But anyway, thanks as always for the time and effort you expend to share part of your life with us. I value your friendship, even though we’ve never met.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your green sleeveless shirt. I can't find tank tops that don't have gaping arm holes....and then of course green. :) Also yay for you for crafting on what makes you happy. I was right there with you about being a capital K knitter....but I think the challenge of perfecting my craft / making in other avenues makes me a happy (not the right word) person...and then when I come back and knit a pair of socks there is just that much more satisfaction or something. I don't know...but I'm totally tracking with you.
So excited about your bag update! I was wondering if you would consider doing chickens print bags or possibly chickens and eggs. Thanks for considering. When you were talking about quilting I’ve never quilted before. I am curious. Do you start hand quilting in the middle of the quilt or at one corner? What kind of thread do you use on a cotton quilt? I want to start quilting but it seems all I can do is buy fabric. Ha ha ha , any tips or tricks she might have would be much appreciated! I really enjoyed the egg tree by the way. Happy Easter.
Traditional wisdom is to start in the middle of the quilt, but in a little one it doesn’t matter all that much. For big stitch quilting, no 8 or no 12 perle cotton are good choices, for traditional hand quilting a 30-40 wt cotton thread shows up a bit more than regular (usually 50 wt) thread.
yes, its a book that is interesting but the writing is really special, beautiful writing... its a trilogy, I read the first one Gilead and will get the next two@@fatsquirrelfibers
can you please give us a link for those adorable folk easter eggs? I've tried to google and can't find.. they. are. ridiculous. Yours are turning out so cute!
It is: www.etsy.com/listing/1684012529/modern-folk-easter-eggs-pattern-beginner?gpla=1&gao=1&&CjwKCAjw48-vBhBbEiwAzqrZVKTk8-P5jF0EgrD9Ahy3O8Q-Flqvgw3HbmfXz026jWXtbF7y_rOlFBoCA-EQAvD_BwE_k_&:pla-322726483858_m__1684012529_12768591&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADtcfRI2AtgMCGaI7duuKHKa-mt2r&gclid=CjwKCAjw48-vBhBbEiwAzqrZVKTk8-P5jF0EgrD9Ahy3O8Q-Flqvgw3HbmfXz026jWXtbF7y_rOlFBoCA-EQAvD_BwE I’m glad you like them!
I tried to read Big Swiss- but I was afraid it would be full of sex scenes. I’m not a prude but it can seem forced (like an HBO series) and makes me lose attraction to the story. I might try it again. I’m reading Forget The Alamo an “updated more balanced telling “ of a classic American Folk story.
I would not say it is full of sex scenes, but there is “content”. That said, I almost always fast forward through cis hetero scenes in romantic comedies, but, while I did find myself thinking “I am not at all convinced that a woman of my age can be this infatuated/obsessed with another human being,” I didn’t fast forward?
Just want to tell you that I look forward to each new “episode” of your podcast but my cat (Zuzu) does not. I will typically shout out “yes,” or some similar exclamation :) I thank you for what you do but Zuzu does not 🙀
Personally, I tune in to this podcast to see exactly Amy Beth's content presented in her own unique style. Asking someone to change their entire personality to suit your taste is not constructive, particularly when you could simply find plenty of other podcasts presented in a manner you would find better suited to your preferences.
Um I loved your chicken. Had no clue you cross stitched and totally makes me love your channel even more! Beautiful stitching.

I loved the sound of sirens cheering outside while you presented your lovely rooster!
your ambient music song is my new favorite thing ever.

I continue to LOVE how Amy Beth you are. Carry on, please and thank you.
I love everything you do, but those socks so darn cute!
Thanks for the reminder about big stitch quilting. I have a small project to try it out on.
HOOOOORAH for finishes !
Those Easter eggs! I’m going to have to buy the patter. Oh the sampler is amazing!
I am not a knitter but am definitely a stitcher and quilter and maker, I guess. So LOVE the eggs, the Cross Stitch, the quilting and project bags etc. and the reading....thank you.
I looked up that rooster pattern you just finished. The pattern is selling for $19900 dollars just love your cross stitch finish 🧵🪡🧵
I enjoy your podcast, very informative . yes I have Easter eggs as well but they are not as nice as yours. You are talented!
I "watched" this while dozing on the couch under the influence of allergy medication. I guess I'll just have to watch it a second time when I'm lucid! Thanks for being there.
I love the “ambient music” interlude song! Too good 😂
Congratulations on your wonderful Rooster! He is fabulous! 🎉🎉🎉

I'm a huge fan who lives in Champaign Urbana!
Thanks for the book recommendation, In My Own Moccasins. I am a little embarrassed that I was not aware of this author (I'm Canadian).
Love the colors of your walls!
Please stay true to you!! I LOVE your quilting and stitching content😍 p.s. Your rooster is to die for!

I have had the best luck with Racerback or “high neck” styles. This one is from Target, but I think was labeled as a regular tank?

Your attempts to be "cute" are overly exaggerated and detract from the subjects you are talking about.
