Thanks for your comment. New videos every week, come back often.
Thank you for saving me time. The bag of sand probably costs more than the little flake of gold. But, my friend gave me a sluice box and I was able to gain knowledge by watching you. Thank you.
Thanks so much for watching, glad this was useful for you. Some sand is better than others. Construction sand is better than play sand.
Great video as always. Thanks. Being a big fan of Urban Prospecting, I always enjoy seeing how much gold folks find in Home Depot sand. I thought I’d pass along, that the Play Sand has the lowest amount of gold in it of any of the sands due to they have to process it so much to make it safe for children. They can’t have hardly a rock or twig in it that a kid could hurt themselves with. They use it for indoor sand and water tables for toddlers as well.
The concrete general purpose sand is much better for the gold. It is not heavily processed and has a mix of small rocks and sand in it. They also have paver sands which is similar but may have less larger rocks in it. They also carry tube sand which is used as weight to put in the back of a truck in winter for weight and if you get stuck. I have found that depending on the level in the stack you get the bag from, the material will vary from sand, sand and crushed rock, gravel and course sand. I have yet to find 2 bags that are the same mix of material. It’s kind of non sellable garbage material that is bagged to be used for weight or traction only. Hence no processing and has a big chance for gold. My grandson and I have found larger gold in these up to -8 mesh in size. He found close to a half gram of gold in one bag alone. Sometimes this is only a winter carry in the store. If you check at Lowes and the Ranch, Farm and Garden stores in the area and surrounding towns, you will find a fairly wide variety of different sands from different companies and some of the more unknown brands will have some nice gold in them.
When I shop Home Depot or Lowes, I usually mark the pallets with a magic marker so I can tell when they get a new shipment and buy a bag from different levels. When I see that they have a new pallet of sand, I try to buy bags from the different levels. If you get a bag with good gold, then head right back and try to get another from the same level. Gold content varies from bag to bag.
Usually there is always some fine gold in the bags so if you screen it and run slower water flows you will be surprised at how much gold you can collect from them. You may find this a way to pick up a little extra gold in-between prospecting trips.
It never seases to amaze me that after 30 years of gold mining and building propecting equipment, that I still have much to learn. Thank you so much for this comment and the tips on the different sands. Never knew that there was that much difference in them. But it just makes sense that the less the material is processed the better the chance for gold to still be in the sand. Thanks again for your amazing insight into this part of prospecting.😊👌👌👍👍👍👍
So I live in Alabama. Our gold belt runs from central to north east of the state. I was thinking that I would go to those areas and find sand that was locally quarried. That might make a good video.
Good idea, it is worth a try.
The sand we have out in the east coast similar to out where you are or would it be waste of time.
Good try.I have heard that there's upward of $9 in couple dollar bag.Maybe if there digging in a different part of the wash that day? 😁 I really like the drop riffle sluices, like my Angus Mckirk.I tried about a year ago to get the same you have and everyone was out of them.
These bags were over $4.00 per 50lb bag. For me two hours work for less than a penny of gold just doesn't do it. My 15 year old Letrap has been a very good buy.
Walmart sand up here in Canada had alot but I thought it was just fools gold. Now I regret dumping my boys sandbox at the old house.
Actually play sand is too refined, to protect the kids. Different grades of construction sand is better. Check to see where it was mined on the bag.
Good video Chuck (my dad's name), It's fun to watch someone closer to my age as you do things like I do. -----).. Keep Digging My Friend
Prospecting is like a detective story, you have clues to where it might be and sometimes it is there.
Chuck do you have an old dry washer u wanna get rid of 😊😎
You know I may have one that I used before I remade the one I am using now. Send me an email and I will email back if I have it. My email is in all my videos in the description.
Interesting video
Thanks for watching. If you try this don't use play sand, it is to well screened. Use different grades of construction sand from different stores.
Ran 4 50lb bags general purpose sand. 1bag 0, 2bags 3colors, 1bag 4colors and 3large fly specks.
thanks for the heads up. Try to check bags for there origin. Calif is best material

Wow chuck , that was indeed a bit oh a stramash . Nothing ventured and nothing gained .still another great watch .well in ☠👍👍👍⛏💙
I was informed by someone that the sand was mined in California. I figured that it had a good chance of having better gold. Maybe a different Home Depot would be better. As for me I am done with sand.
@@CandSMINING hello chuck , aye I've herd about the sand from California before . Nice to see how effective the letrap actually is . I don't own one ,butt I will get one soon . Do you use the trap to clean up at the river ?? Cheers
@@piratedredger1857 I do use the Letrap for concentrate clean up on the 5". 1/2 of a 5 gal bucket of black sand for a day is too much to pan.
@@CandSMINING thanks Chuck , i bring back about 2 , 5 gallon buckets from the river . Man panning is a real pain butt I'm all up for the letrap ☠👍👍👍⛏💙
@@piratedredger1857 I have used the Letrap for many years. We actually had it set up in the Yuba river and dwould bucket from the banks to the river and found great gold.
Looks like the same sand I got from Lowe’s
Just check the bag for where it came from. Play sand is just too clean, use a builders sand.
i enjoyed this
Glad you liked the video. Come back often we have a new video every week.
Hey chuck ive got my le sluice set at 8deg is that a good angel
I use mine at 5% or less depending on my water flow
I never panned or anything for gold. What is the jet dry for?
Jet dry breaks the surface tension of the water. Some very fine gold will actually float. Oils from your hands can also cause it to float. The Jet dry causes it to sink.
If they find gold then they must be running bags and bags or truck loads but I bet you could get lucky
Different stores get there sand from different regions. I have found that not to use the play sand and get construction sands. Play sand is to clean for the kids.
Ok
Thanks for watching and commenting
Looks like a bb
Could be something that fell while in the shop.
