Thank you for sharing. I was there that opening night and only 16 years old. Performing with my band from CAPA it was a night to remember.

My older brother graduated from Carnegie Melon in 1994 and my parents rented us all a room at the William Penn Hotel where I saw Dennis Hopper and John Waters hanging out in the lobby. Dennis's girlfriend at the time was bringing him medicine from the store in the hotel's lobby as Dennis seemed to have a bit of a cold. I was 20 years old and had long hair and was wearing my favorite shirt at the time, a white MC5 tee with the cover of "Back in the USA" on it. Nobody was approaching them so I figured, what the hell, and walked up to John and Dennis to introduce myself. Neither seemed particularly excited by the introduction until I began to compliment them on their work. I told John I'd seen his most recent film, "Crybaby" and that I loved it and then turned to Dennis and said "you were amazing in Texas Chainsaw Massacre II." At this point, John seemed to really light up. I began singing "Bringing in the Sheaves" and posing with two imaginary chainsaws in my hands as John giggled and Dennis sulked. John then invited me to go along with them to the opening of the Andy Warhol museum. I had to explain that I was with my parents. Talk about missed opportunities. I got both their signatures on a bevnap that I later gave to a buddy of mine who collected signatures and worked with me at one of the three art house theaters back in Houston.
