Hey Chad. I have my first exam tomorrow for ochem 2 and I just wanted to thank you again you videos help me so much last semester, I thought I was going to fail ochem 1 but I ended up getting a B+. Hopefully going to get an A this semester!
Around 36:47 wouldn't you rotate the dienophile to have the carbonyl groups on the LHS for the endo rule? I'm just a bit confused. But overall great video.
I believe you're referring to the regioselectivity of the reaction which is related to some resonance considerations and is covered beginning about 19:00. But ultimately, you are trying to avoid 1,3 relationships between an electron-donating group on the diene and an electron-withdrawing group on the dienophile. We often 'flip' the dienophile to avoid these 1,3 relationships. Hope this helps!
