I had this on VHS back in the mid 90’s. Loved it as a kid, helping me to appreciate rugby league history throughout the decades ❤ We need more league history films and docos like this.
NRL needs to start doing an NRL films thing like the NFL it would be awesome to get the stories of the seasons and grand finals. Parra did one recently about ‘86
Why is it no matter how many times on every film of the 1936 tour my granddad's sending of is one of the few moments picked out of the tour. And don't get me started on my old man in 54, he still got booed and abuse thrown at him when he went to play for south Newcastle in 61 😂😂😂
DEAR SIR PETER JACKSON. PLEASE MAKE MOVIE OF OUR UNSUNG HEROS. OF THE ALL GOLDS. THE BEST RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM IN THE WORLD IN 1908 STARTING SIR HERBERT HENRY DALLY MESSENGER. PLAYED IN THE REBEL TEAM. JUST LIKE OUR UNSUNG HERO SIR GEORGE NEPIA.
top effort but only about 8/10 for research. Could have had a bit more Qld and its fight and total victory over rugby union. 1924 Toowoomba team victory over all comers, Great Britain, NSW, South Sydney, Ipswich and Brisbane plus Qld utter dominance over everybody in most of the 1920s. plus some coverage Qld/BRL grand finals even if you don't have photo footage. maybe a picture or two of the Exhibition Ground and Gabba etc story behind "Battle of Brisbane" test and Rouke Drift test - two of the greatest tests of all time, courage over adversity etc. bit more of the characters in the game and a few old "tall" stories on players in the Aussie/British team and premiership team rather captains and winning score. but on the whole a good doco on Sydney Rugby League. well done.
The Balmain players didn't even get to celebrate the 1939 premiership according to Frank Hyde. None of the players were up for it anyway especially when it were announced Australia was going to war again.
Is that Messenger at 6:14 in the clip? The commentary seems to suggest it is. I didn't think there was any footage of Messenger playing, but I would love to be wrong.
NRL destroyed there foundation clubs. They created the game and should always have had automatic immunity. Without them no game would’ve happened. They should never have created Melbourne Storm either they took Western Suburbs Magpies and Balmain Tigers to Tasmania . As both clubs had there respective counterparts in AFL. That would’ve been the only choice. Newtown moved to Adelaide and still played there home games in Sydney when it came to there classic home games.
Many , many thanks Sportscaster91, for taking me back to my child hood days, and as a teen ager in Sydney.

Why the RFL can't buy the George Hotel

Fuck me' Wayne... 10/10 for authenticity
This is only about Australian rugby league.
Pray tell
That goes without saying because it has 1908 in the title. England was earlier, and New zealand all Golds is 1907.
Man the end of this documentary was heavy

Let's get to the game in style let's take the trolley bus

Thats just a renactment.
Why didn't you say who had won the 1938 NSWRL Grand final?
And to add insult to injury they show the team photo of the team that lost that year - Canterbury lol

The NRL did without a doubt. Compared to AFL where all the foundation clubs remain except one, Fitzroy.
@@RugbyLeagueHistory Fitzroy Is Brisbane Lions
@@clevelandwilliams5922 I know that.
@@RugbyLeagueHistory So Fitzroy is still alive in the new location of Brisbane
@@clevelandwilliams5922 I am already aware of this. I watch AFL you know.
