Any change in ToS is a change in a legal contract. The options should always be "Accept" or "Reject and receive full refund". Companies have been abusing this for far too long now and need to be held responsible.

More likely they want to limit damage to Steam. I suspect that how the refund system works that Valve has to use it's own money to give refunds to players before it has possibility to get compensated from the publisher especially if the transaction happened days/weeks/months ago. That money has long ago been moved forward to developer/publisher over certain time. So Steam pulled the plug from areas they practically have to give refunds to players no matter what to minimize any new damage.
Seems to be the case. If they continued to allow people to buy a product they would not be able to actually use then they opened themselves to a whole slew of issues. They are already dealing with the fact that people who bought a product will be barred from using it in a month’s time. Not a great image either. Steam/valve has been on pretty shaky grounds recently with scam games (like the scams who made you believe you bought a discounted version of HD2), corporations doing what sony is doing (as in being absolutely terrible) and generally the rampant lack of any standards for current EA releases (plagued with brain-rotted EA white knights). I'm really not sure what you mean here. Does Disney put out only pretty much dogshit content these days? Yes, clearly. But they don't give one wet fart how much you like it or not, they only care if they're making money. And they are. Clearly someone crunched the numbers at Sony, and they believe that the number of people that they will lose based on country will be insignificant (which I'm sure is actually true, the vast vast vast majority of players are already in countries where they can make PSN accounts) and they think that the increase in new PSN accounts this change will bring in will mean enough new PSN accounts to convince their shareholders that they are growing more than they actually are so they can make a few more bucks (also, they want to harvest everyone's data, but that is a given for every corporation these days). They do not care for a single second about Steam reviews, because they aren't Steam. And they don't care if some studio they bought a controlling interest in dies, it's already made them more than enough for what they invested, and now they think it can be used to artifically boost their numbers so that's what they're going to do. Don't misunderstand me for a single second, I think this is a completely stupid idea that will backfire and could even kill the game, but that will have absolutely no impact on Sony as a corporation. They ARE too big to fail, at least in this situation. Just like Disney could put out a hundred more crap Star Wars movies and still make enough money each year to solve world hunger and cure cancer. “Sony is to big to fail”
Ask Disney how’s that’s going…
Not good
SONY is too big to fail because it's a consumer electronics conglomerate that makes many different kinds of products. Seriously, think of an electronic device, and Sony probably makes it. PLAYSTATION, on the other hand, could potentially suffer just like Disney has been, causing the higher levels of Sony to do something.
They don't care how much you enjoy the crap sandwich they keep serving, because we all keep buying it anyway, that's the point. And at the end of the day, Sony already has your money, so you can go and get forked. Fork yourself right in the forking face. That's how Sony (and every other corporation, for that matter) feels about you, without a doubt.

People start to leave since things get samey, and it snowballs into complete shutdown like all live service eventually do.
The thing they should fear more is the brand damage. Nobody trusts Sony, and Arrowhead will also bear the brunt. Who is going to play a new Sony published online game after this? Who is going to trust Arrowhead if they continue to lay with Sony?
@@TheCodeakira It's a corporation. They do what they want and don't give a fk. Back down? Never!
I genuinely feel so bad for the CEO, he seems so sad about this. They really have made a great game.
He obviously never wanted what sony has forced on them
In the same twitter thread shown in video someone asked what should he do if he is a country that doesn't support PSN, the CEO replied with and i quote "I don't know."
The CEO don't foresee the Sony issue and now he pays the price for not have the guts to stand up.

I dont even play the game and i think this is one of the biggest Fk up aside from Overwatch 2
@@ghiffaribara2949 I agree but its even worse because Blizzard fucked up themselves and Arrowhead-Studio didnt Initiate this and now they are getting bashed for it while Sony hides from the consequences and let AH-Studio eat all the shit that comes
@@deku5803 Yeah, I hope Sony doesn't double down on the decision and reverse it. The damage is already done but at least they can lessen it and show it to us that they hear us. They could've made an incentive like game rewards when linking with PSN instead of forcing its player, that would've been better

OH BOY I SURE DO LOVE ALWAYS-ONLINE LIVE SERVICE AND NOT EVEN BEING ABLE TO LOAD INTO THE MAIN MENU WITHOUT BEING IN THE NETWORK, THANKS MODERN GAMING!
Hell Divers 2 coming to Epic/Prime gaming as a free to own forever game in 2026.
This tells us that Valve themselves were unaware of the impending PSN requirement, just like the rest of us. So much for the "It was clearly on the store page since day 1!!11!" argument
Nooo it tells us Valve doesn't read every games page. It was there, Sony was the one that allowed the game to be sold where they shouldn't have. Valve is just mad they have to refund
i honestly cant imagin how pilestedt is feeling right now, helldivers2 the golden child of arrowhead quite litterally murdered right in front or his verry eyes. how many years of work went into this game? and it took just about 3 days
7 years
7 years of hard work, down the drain😢
You're being overly dramatic, the playerbase will take a hit, but I doubt it's a majority that will be leaving.
Better than a lawsuit STOP BUYING GAMES AND STUFF FROM SONY. #boycott SONY!
he literally explained in the video why that doesnt matter dude, even if all the 600k player boycotted them, they couldnt care less. sony is just too big
@@Goliath83 Still, you have to do it. If only with the intent to protect yourself, the individual consumer, more than harming the corporation.
@@Goliath83 It wouldn't affect Sony much, but it would affect their Playstation branch.
You're still hurting them in the pocket in a big way.

To me, this indicates that Sony has no intention of backing down. So, unfortunatly, RIP Helldivers 2

if they don't go back on this i'm refunding
just attempt refund now.
NOW is the time to refund
Tried to refund yesterday, was denied
@@Switchtense-ffyou need to say something like "sony has made some changes i did not agree to." in the refund reason
I suggest try refunding now while steam is accepting refunds from players with 90+ hours.
Sony: “Finally, now that we killed that goose we can really focus on these golden eggs.”
Regarding what happens to those that have the game in a now newly banned country:
I already saw two clips that show that people can't start the game anymore. Now this might have some random other reason but that would be a bit unlikely tbh
if this was the plan from Day 1 then the game should have never been sold in those regions, Sony is attempting to change the terms after the purchase. I will be refunding when I get home off work.
It was clearly stated on the page when buying the game on steam, made and linked my account day 1, I didn't cry about it either. This backlash is just cry babies And as far as it being available in countries were PSN wasn't available....that falls on steam.
@@shakes.816 PSN's own FAQ stated it was optional, the EULA did not have anything about this requirement AND they happily sold the game in over 100 countries who cannot have PSN accounts. Anyone who did get the game could easily assume it was a requirement solely for cross-play and cross-progression, hence the tiny square on Steam's page & the skip option in-game until now.
I don't understand why you feel the need to act like you're a sun temperature IQ guy just because you assumed the correct option which, from the given information, was literally wrong (again, 4/5 evidence pieces pointed to it being optional).
Stop defending a corporation that literally just wants to sell your data and use you as another number in their Q roundups to get money off of you, who has security issues that can result in random people getting access to your bank details and spending your money.
@@shakes.816Agree with most of what you said, but how does that fall on steam? Steam is only providing the platform for sony to sell their game, it's up to sony to configure steam accordingly.
So if sony knows that people from country A can't use PSN, it's on sony to reflect that on steam.
Valve can not somehow magically read your mind.
It's like when you buy something with peanuts in it in a supermarket. The package can tell you that it has peanuts inside and that this is dangerous to people with a peanut allergy, but you can't go complain to the cashier that they (the retailer) didn't warn you that there were peanuts inside, when you didn't read the package. They cannot somehow magically read your mind.
Unistall the game, leave a bad review, VOTE OR DIE, make your voices heard. CMs told us to do so and decided to go to war with the player base? So shall be! Steam already refunding 98+ hours played accounts. Greek god Gabe at it again. Sony changing the wording is also incredibly scummy.
shame valve has to pay for sony's greed. hopefully it comes from sony's account
This is Steam's issue in the First place but you guys clearly cant see that. Steam sold the game not Sony
