    One thing you forgot to mention the minimum needs to be set to the lowest possible setting to trigger your laser otherwise it stays full power no matter what you put. Great video thanks.

    I have made this file and it previews fine. However when I start the print it starts and it stops after 2 seconds. I have a DYI engraver with a Eleksmaker motherboard and GRBL-M3 firmware and a 15w diode laser and it prints every thing else fine. What have I set up wrong?

  •  5 років тому +2

    Thanks for the video! I have a problem with the power scale. I have followed your video and I'm having a problem because in my laser the speed is applied correctly but not the laser power output. I have set it to 90 by default in all the lines and them a % per every square I have. When I send it to my laser all the lines have the same power: 90%. The laser is not applying the parameter defined in the shape properties.

    I built a similar power scale to yours, but then when I went to get it cut with my Omtech 100W, all the boxes turned out basically charred. It looks like each box, regardless of the fact that I've got the power scale set to different ratios is burning at 100%. Any ideas why that would happen?

  • @bobwaterfield7222

    Great video, Be nice if you also showed the actual output after the laser has run it. Maybe you can add a files section where people can DL some of the scales and such to help set up their machines.

      Hi. Most of this has been replaced by Lightburn's built in material test (Laser Tools > Material Test) but I'm sure the power scale does still work as I used it recently in response to another comment. I'd suggest posting to the LB forum or send an email to support as it may be something specific to your machine or controller that I don't see with the lasers I have.

    Hi Carl, very good video. Regrettably I tried this yesterday, over and over, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Is there a setting that tells the software to use the percentile of the set power please? I tried slowing the video to ensure my settings were the same as yours, alas to no avail. I am using the Ruida 700x600 80W laser. Lightburn is awesome btw. Regards Gary

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse  5 років тому

      Hi Gary. Shouldn't be anything to specifically say use that. Normally it's just set to 100% and you would turn it down accordingly and LB should obey. If you're having trouble my best suggestion would be to post on the FB group and see if the membership at large or the developers have any input. I don't have a Ruida so maybe it behaves differently.

    There is a big difference in engraving darkness using power scale. For example. Engraving two squares. Square A is at 300mm/sec and 10% power with 100% power scale. Square B at 300 mm/sec 100% power with 10% power scale. For some reason Square B engraves darker. Wondering if you have any ideas as to why that might be? Thanks

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse  3 місяці тому

      Hi there. This is an older video and I haven't played with power scaling much since they introduced the material test generator directly. That said I'll try out your scenario when I get a chance and see what it looks like. I'd have to look at the generated gcode to see what the actual power value is that it's sending to the controller but from a math perspective they should be the same value....at least in my head.

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse  3 місяці тому

      @jacketpatches so I just did some testing and 100% power with 10% power scale produces exactly the same gcode as 10% power with 100% power scale so in theory the instruction set being output to your laser is identical. Have you tried on multiple materials? Maybe difference in wood grain if you're using wood?

  • @spec24
    @spec24 2 роки тому

    Why use "power scale"? Why not just total power? It would be a lot more intuitive and easier on the end user rather than calculating percentages in their heads.

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse  2 роки тому

      Because then you would have to have a separate layer and settings for every box to have a different speed/feed. This way you only need the 10 layers.
