I first heard these three tunes they play, "Lord Alexander Kennedy," "Blair Drummond," and "Charlie's Welcome", 35 years ago. They're so ingrained in me now that I can't imagine what it's like to hear them for the first time, as this gentleman has here, especially as played by such a fantastic pipe corps.
My grandfather served with Montgomery in WW2 out in the desert. The Brits are proud of their soldiers. We love all things military.
This is a civilian pipe band
My father did also but he couldn't stand him , many couldn't. He was a very arrogant man
goosebumps every single time... thank you for a splendid reaction
Love this music, it's so dignified and proud! I watched the funeral of Queen Elisabeth II of Great Britain on tv. The massive group of pipers were so impressive, it gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. ❤
The long note is the drones on the bagpipes. It’s a sustained note whilst the chanter makes the notes of the tune
Stunning to watch.
You should check out our show for more ;-)
this is cool , I did not know they used poi for drums , maori use them for beats and wrist strengthening , we also wear Kilts to honor the large Scottish popultion in NZ and have Highland games in NZ
Poi?
@@clairehennessy3640 yeah sorry I don't know what they are called in Scotland but the balls on a string
2023 this band was one of the most competitive in grade one but the winner was Boghall and Bathgate. FMM won the title in previous editions, maybe in 2023 they were not as good as the other bands in the medley and, generally, in the snares' section. We are of course talking about tiny teensie differnces here, that's still one of the best grade one bands. In this MSR set the strathspey was particularly strong and well executed, maybe the reel could have been pushed a little bit more, but that's just me...
Can't let your comment about the snare section generally not being as good slide. Across the 4 runs at the Worlds the drum corps placed 2nd overall with THREE 1st places and one 6th place finish. (Spot the outlier‽) The drum corps also picked up the Supreme Champions title for best drum corps across the entire season.
Did you know that the bagpipe originally came from India and Pakistan, Iran? Similar instruments were developed in many countries, for example Egypt and Turkey. Alexander the Great brought the bagpipe to the West and every region in Europe has its own local version. In Spain, the bagpipe is part of the culture, especially in Galicia and Asturias. The bagpipe is therefore not typically Scottish.
You are right to a degree, the Great Highland Bagpipe, which is the most well known probably, is uniquely Scottish.
