he desert is mine Tenere, my homeland, We come to you when the sun goes down Leaving a trail of blood across the sky Which the black night wipes out The desert is hot and its water hard to find Water is life and soul To all my brothers I say, the desert is jealous! O Tenere! A jealous desert! Why can‘t you see? You are a treasure I‘ve seen the world, I love you better Oh Tenere! You are the treasure of my soul. I cry out to God on High To bring my people together In unity
So different from us culturally, but passionate in their reverence for rhythmn and harmony. Using the universal language of music to convey their love for their homeland to the world.
me encanta esta musica, tiene una vibra que lo llena a uno...es increible lo que hay en youtube y casi nadie ve...esta obra de arte necesita ser vista por mas personas....maravillosa composicion....
@AlRayhi91 The New World saw them on the FIFA World Cup closing ceremony. That's where I saw them first, and I have fallen in love with their sound. They are coming to Los Angeles and Boston on their current tour, but I wish they would come to Minnesota. Vive Tinariwen!
I LOVE YOUR MUSIC, YOUR BEAT AND I UNDERSTAND SOME TRANSLATION IN YOUR MUSIC BECAUSE I READ THE COMMENTS. WHEN I GET THE MONEY I'M COMING TO SEE THE GROUP IN MALI. I LOVE MALI MUSIC, IT'S GOOD MUSIC FOR THE SOUL.......
This music speaks to my soul.... It is the feeling that everyone feels at some point or another.. The spine tingling sensation... What is that feeling.. Can anyone put a word or description to it... I believe that feeling is the feeling of life...
@dcs002 Trust me- if there's ONE band in the world worth travelling to see, it's Tinariwen! I've seen them 3 times, and each time was one of the best shows I've ever seen, in my life. They are AMAZING! I hope you get to see them soon..... :)
@dcs002 I've always been very grateful to live in Los Angeles, where there is such a vibrant "world music" scene, but never more so than each time I saw Tinariwen! And each time we saw them, we were high for 2-3 days afterwards, they take you to such an amazing place....I got 2 of my cd's signed, too, and they are now two of my most-prized possessions. Hopefully you will see them soon!
Please help me translate some amazigh/tamshek songs brother. I'm a massive Tinariwen,Terakaft, Abdallah Oumbadougoud and Bonbino fan. I love the vocals, the strings, melodies and the sincerity of the music. I share your struggle for autonomy (at least spiritually). I have a rough idea about the basic lyrics of some songs but would grateful if a native speaker helps me to truly appreciate the amazing music by these genius musicians! Peace be upon you all!
@balwinder13 You should listen more music like this. F.e. the touaregs, bassekou kouyate, ali and ieux farka touré. Or artists from Africa Unplugged cd.
@dcs002 Tinariwen are coming back to the Cedar Cultural Center, Minneapolis on November 26, 2011. Tix go on sale Fri 8/19. See you Thanksgiving weekend!
@Bhaktigirl22 I shared this video with a friend on Facebook, and she said something like "Oh yeah, I know them! We (the art museum she worked at) presented them in 06 or 07," referring to a local cultural festival. They were in Minnesota 3-4 years before I'd heard of them! Man, that's no fair! I'm sure they're worth the trip to Boston, but I've got a pretty low income, and that wouldn't be wise. Some day they'll come back to Minnesota...
Been into these guys for a while, along with several other artists from Mali. Nice to see them finally get the international recognition they deserve.
