3 reasons to not buy one | KTM 390 Duke FAQ #3
Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 сер 2024
- As lovely as the 390 Duke can be, it isn't for everyone. One. It does run hot and you will feel on your legs in city traffic, especially when stopped. Especially if you cannot be bothered to be in riding gear all the time. The shorts and flip-flops brigade -- heat is hardly the big issue -- will suffer on the 390 for sure. Two. It can be all calm and smooth but the 390 generally urges you to go faster and can be deceptively fast. It needs skill to ride well and concentration to ride, all the time. It's quite the commitment. Three. The 390 began in 2013 at a great price point. But today, the 390 Duke is a reasonably expensive purchase. Consider point two... the Duke 250 is quite a bit less intense to ride, but not slow and might be a better buy for many.

It's expensive here but in European countries the 390 duke is considered to be one of the best beginners motorcycle.

yeah and then they ride this in Indian traffic...🙂🙂🙂
@REIZO it is a troll made by yammie noob
i dont see 200cc upp to 400cc to be a beginner in our country most riders drive it hard without braking and late braking on tight corners specialy on public roads maybe your country has a strict regulation those bikes has limits while our country has to much to prove it depends on your skill

One of the reasons to buy is having the only machine present on the road at that moment that nobody would be able to mess with.
It is one of the most potent motorcycles in India for sure
250 Duke is the best Duke IMO but KTM always reduce some of its features just to sell more 390 Duke, especially the meter console.
Yes. There are definitely gaps in the KTM India product packaging strategy
I know IMO means "in my opinion" but why do you generic quora guys use this abbreviation everywhere
@@amaangaur3850"generic quora guys"? "imo" has been used since sms were popular.
I have a 2018 BS4 Duke 390, was looking to upgrade to Z900 or Street Triple RS, but sold it and got a CB300R, since budget was cut for a superbike, as I bought a MG ZS EV.
CB300R is much better than Duke 390 in city riding conditions, as this bike has great initial torque which was lacking in Duke 390, in Duke 390 you have to downshift gears whenever you slow down, otherwise the engine will start jerking if you try to pull it in a higher gear.
In CB300R its much better, the bike will pull from a higher gear at low speeds without any stress.
I changed my exhaust, wrapped the exhaust, and added a piggyback computer, it's not very hot anymore. Great first bike for me. Fun every day.
Your riding gear match the bike,so cleaannn 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you 🙌
1st ; it gets overheated
2nd: engine won’t let you ride slow
3rd: can feel pain in hand while riding slow
4: Vibrations
5: very low mileage however it’s justified as it produces hell of acceleration
6: Not practical for people living in rural areas
Although I don’t own a duke 390 but
I’ve ridden Several times and as a Ns 200 owner i can confirm these disadvantages!!
Thanks for sharing your perspective!
I bought 250 because i feel I am nt yet skilled enough to handle 390… Preparing for sessions in riding school an then a bigger bike 😊..I have no shame in admitting that I need to learn to ride a performance bike though I have been riding past 15years…
Hi, how is the torque on the 250? I am juggling between to get the 250 or the 390... Previous bike i had was Duke 200 bs4, the torque was good back then on the 200.. the newer 200 ones have trimmed out on the torque
@@seewhyaneyesee How do I answer this? I was riding Avenger for 6years and from there to Duke 250…its a joy ride for me every time I ride it.. Torque is adequate, u can pop a wheelei at 8-8.5k…get a super quick start on signals and never feel lagging.. but all this is my experience…Take a test ride, rent a bike for a day and decide..I hv no clue wht changed from bs4 to bs6…
@@seewhyaneyeseeI went from a first gen BS3 200 Duke to a BS4 390 Duke. I was not very happy. The BS4 is too civilized. The BS3 390 was a wild machine and felt like a more powerful version of the 200 Duke. The BS4 feels watered down.
If you have a BS4 200 Duke, do NOT get the 250. It won't feel like much of an upgrade. I have never ridden a 250 but I am sure it is kess powerful than the 390. Maybe wait for the upcoming platform?
RBJ! Good to see you again! We love the thought-through attitude. The 250 to 390 as it is today is not a big step although the 390 is quite a bit more aggressive. The 250 is a very very good machine though. It's not as angry as the 390 but it isn't slow either. As much as we're enthralled by the 390, we do recommend the 250 a lot!
I got the angry one😅😅 ! It just wants to go fast every freakinn time❤❤
yes agreed, 250 duke is a better option for new bike riders.
❤️
This is the best value for money bike... The power and handling you get for this money beats every other bike in its category. I will go for it!
Thanks for sharing @sivammohanan8125.
I don't care what the people think about ktm's rider, calling "chhapri". I've ridden my friend's 390 duke. So good, lightweight, easy to ride and yet so much fun, I think from now on I'll always recommend KTM to any beginner biker or someone who's looking to break the monotony in their rides. I love it.
The only reason I don't have one is due to money, but I hope soon I get a chance to own a brand new one.
@@selvingreen3585 Agree. But sometimes people will talk negatively about the bike because they don't have money. Almost everyone wants to buy a higher CC bike because of the money some start negative talks about the bike. I'm not rich or poor but I think in this way from my point of view.
Said correct, I experience the same in my Dominar as traveling on a boiling pan
I have ridden 2019 duke 390 and the heat in city is manageable with a jeans, the only part it can be issue is where it hits the heel area between shoes and jeans. Fuel economy in traffic is another huge factor for people who care about fuel economy. Sometimes its worse than an economy car. And its true regarding the bike's nature, it just wants to be above 100. But its a sweet experience and there's no doubt in that. Never in my riding experience i felt the need to upgrade, it was always ample.
I disagree with this , I’ve got a 2021 Duke 390 and imo it does not run hot on top of that I feel like it is actually very easy and manageable in the city. Then again I live in Switzerland so this may affect things. Cheers !
Hello from India. Yes, engine heat in our conditions is a whole another thing!
@@motorinc Yes that is definetly a factor. I can't imagine what a Ducati must be like to ride in India.
The Multi V4s (Shumi rides one) do okay. The Panigales fry legs like nothing else 😂
I ride it almost every day and the heat is barely noticable. It's an extremely fun and responsive bike! Wouldn't change it for the world.
Glad you like it.
1 Reason is enough: Single Cylinder (apart from that its an amazing bike)
It's true, it always what's to go fast, it's a high reving bike, below 4/5 k rpms feels wobbly
It should wobble. But yes it does feel unhappy
Best channel out there
Thank you so much!
At first I found my 250 to be a deceptively fast bike, considering I was used to the throttle inputs of a 150cc bike. I can imagine how the 390 can be a handful with someone who rings the throttle.
Yes. It’s quite the step!
They should give a BTO for Duke 390. I'm sure most of us will not take their full package lol.
We can buy it at less than 3 lakhs OTR by cutting down quick shifter, taking a basic display and avoiding a few safety tech
If only mass manufacturing was that flexible!
@@motorinc somewhere someone's gotta start 😅
The catch should be waiting period, where customers must be willing to wait for their spec of the vehicle
I just love your content. Help me buy a good bike.. I have a budget of 2.5L and can extend upto 3L. I love long rides and usually a solo rider or a Duo.. I owned a 2006 Karizma, 2014 bullet 500 and 1st edition Yezdi Adventure.. I sold them all.. But I feel that the phase 2 of Yezdi Adventure is better and smoother.. Need your advise
Imagine Duke 390 Electric version with 10kWh battery pack. 😍😍😍
Insane! 5 lakh rupees and no touring ability but acceleration! 😂
@@motorinc 10kWh can easily give 200 to 270km range if we drive at 60 to 80kmph.
And 270 to 320km range if we drive at 50kmph.

I'd like a video on a Honda cb300r, recently sold my triumph tiger and I'm looking for something more convenient for commuting that's light but powerful. I'm very interested in the Honda because of it
Good bike, quick, zippy, smooth but if your tall it can be a bit cramped
@@m.rraghav817 I'm 6 feet I'll have to try it out once i guess
Best of luck CHC! Let us know how the test rides goes!
@@motorinc went and gave it a try and i loved it. It's a Honda alright, smooth and refined engine, but crazy low to medium end acceleration. I test rode a Duke 390 before and this thing is just as crazy but doesn't have the same pull as the Duke after the first 120km/h.
Build quality is amazing and so are the ergonomics. I didn't find anything wrong with the seating and height and I'm used to my feet being planted firmly on every bike i ride. Definitely my top buy right now while i try to test ride a Ninja 300 and a Yamaha R3 2023
@@certifiedhoodclassic7833adding my two cents, i think you would be much happier with the cb rather than the r3 or ninja. the latter two are more powerful but they make their power way up in the rev range. if you are someone who enjoys hitting the redline and dont mind sacrificing low-end power, it wont really matter much but just from my POV the honda is way more fun. and its light af too, around 150kgs wet, so a lot more manouverable
In 2015 when i purchased my rc 200 its onroad price in hyd was 1.95 approx and at that time 390 was just 30-40k costlier than rc 200

Hey Shumi,
I am planning to buy a bike around 3 to 4,00,00 rupees and I am confused between KTM Duke 390 or Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 (also confused between buying to go with the alloy wheels 2023 version or old metal wheels version because it looks better[mr.clean] than the alloys)
Can you help me out please.
If you want hassle free ownership don’t buy Enfield. And if wanna ride in city and not long rides to unexplored places. Then only buy enfield, it’s eye catching.
If you want a relaxed, torquey engine, get the 650. That bike is all about that gem of an engine! If you want razor sharp handling and don't mind working the engine and gearbox, get the 390. If the 390 is what you want, you might want to wait for the upcoming all new version. The current BS6 one is plagued by stalling issues.
@@twowheeledparadox Is D390 engine , this much unreliable?
@@Anonymous_0913 The stalling is not a reliability issue. The engine can potentially stall while changing gears. For some 390 owners it has been fixed by changing the clutch lever switch and for others by cleaning or replacing the throttle body. Installing a Race Dynamics FuelX also helps.
What would you like to do with the bike, Ritvik?
ktm duke 200 is also hot, aggressive and expensive to maintain yet very lovely
Considering it costs almost 4lakh, I wonder if it's better to skip and rather go for Rs457.

KTM is too volatile and takes lot of efforts to stay calm and composed on city roads.

Yes indeed @bfarm44.
1. Has the Ktm Adventure 390 same issues ?
2. Would love if you make video on Adv 390 and adv 390x
No. Other than the heat the KTM is a lot calmer and slower than the Duke as the gearing and the sprockets are different. However the high seat height can pose a problem for short people
@@brendonfernandes2877 then i won't be having any problem with the seat 😅

Similar yes, but the Duke's smaller size magnifies some of the issues for sure. Adv videos will only happen once we get test bikes

Yes! They need some care and attention so the fluids are always topped up and as fresh as they can be etc. but modern engines are hard to kill
