When I first read the novels I actually skipped over a lot of the battles in the tournament, so it wasn't until earlier this year that I finally did that. It seemed that you placed a lot of your hopes on this tournament and made it into something more hype than it was supposed to be, that is, the goal of this cours.
What was really going on here, then? The tournament's purpose (besides the money, good publicity, and choosing a member of the Big Four, which was just an excuse Rimuru made up at the last moment anyway), was to test Masayuki. That's what Rimuru is thinking about. And the fact that Masayuki's own team member withdrew (of course he was going to do that), after which Masayuki talked his next opponent out of the competition was all about Masayuki. These results are to be expected based on Masayuki's Skills and personality.
Rimuru is frustrated and confused, which shows that Rimuru is not affected by Masayuki's Skill, unlike the audience who ate it up. But Rimuru doesn't know what's going on still.
The third withdrawal was because Gobta exposed Carrion's face through good tactics, not strength, showing winning isn't about pure strength. The battle between Geld and Carrion was long and fair, as was the one between Bovix and Equix. The true stronger one was the winner. Gaiye vs. Gobta? Gaiye is technically stronger but Ranga intruded upon the fight. We are getting hints to watch Gobta throughout all this.
In the end Rimuru hasn't learned a thing about Masayuki, making it more likely that Rimuru with have to fight him (hint: Rimuru doesn't want to), and Rimuru is facing the real possibility that Gobta might end up being part of the Elite Four, which is a little cringe to Rimuru. But I think the final bout, which is tomorrow in the festival schedule, might turn out to be more interesting.
The tournament prelims were just melee battles to narrow the entrants to 6. Even the LN didn't describe them, and Rimuru didn't attend.
But in themselves the tournament battles are not that important. Sorry, guys.
I think we will get to the Dungeon, it's tomorrow, too.
"Elite Four", Tempest's top strongest: Benimaru the leader, Shion & Diablo. But who will be the 4th?
These "3" r too strong for the tournament, so best to banned "them" & have a strong title.
Why not the others:

At 3:49 Correct: Walpurgis door. I was hoping Rimuru had his own door design.
At 7:27 "Ranga" hack Gobta's summoning. (bad dog)
At 10:17 "Masayuki" was good at words. (What a hero)
At 13:38 Why do I judge Gobta as "cheated to win".
With short tournament finished & final match incoming. We might have some "Dungeon" this S.3.
Now, who will win?
"Gobta, the No.1 Goblin" or "Masayuki Honjo, the Chosen One".

I get what they are saying about this season being slow. However, they have a lot of stuff that needs to be setup ready for something big.
I think the way they have gone about it is the fastest way of getting to a really big pay off that involves a lots of elements from this season.
I understand why some people might be annoyed with the pacing (i am too, i really want to see some characters show up and im not convinced that i will get to see them this season now), with that being said what comes next will be so much better and will make more sense thanks to this season. Just have a little faith
