  • Another cool Class A project complete. This time the amplifier is custom retro-fitted into an Astatic TV antenna box from the 1950's. There were a few mechanical hurdles to jump, however the end result was super! Simple design. For low power apartment players, this is the hot ticket! D-Lab electronics has the ECB-A & Cub1 boards in stock. Contact me if you would like some or the documentation. Thanks for watching & supporting my shop. TD

I was thinking about asking you about a wiring diagram for the ECB board, and now here it is! Thanks Terry. I am going to start a project using both boards.

Really nice little practice amp Terry. The step down of the caps really smooth the PS juice feeding the circuit.
ps,,, good to hear the job is going well for you.

6AQ5 is very similar to 6K6 or 6W6 or a lower B+ voltage 6V6, and I suppose we should indicate 6W6GT, 6K6GT, and 6V6G, 6V6GT, 6V6GTA,7408 and the 6AQ5 is a 7 pin mini all of which were glass so no Glass or Glass Tubular suffixes on those.

I love these simple little Class A low power amps. I know someone who built me a little tube champ with all vintage parts and a 6 inch guitar speaker and it really shines. It looks like your amp has 2 stages of preamp gain?. Mine is so quiet even at full power that when I first took it home and plugged it in it was so quiet that I didn't even think it was working.

Such a lovely little amp. Makes me want one. My only gripe is that D-labs never gets a good sounding microphone close to the speaker cabinet to get accurate sound. The thing is this....Nobody knows what good sound is because it doesn't alert them in any way, but everybody knows what bad sound is because it is annoying. The easy answer would be to hang a Shure sm57 in front of the speaker cabinet, have it run to a small audio mixer and then wire it to the camera. A fancier answer would to use a better microphone like a Schoeps Colette, or Neumann TL-something. Anyway looking for more good vids from D-Lab. Thank You!!!

That looks and sounds like an apartment dweller's amp if I ever saw one! You could actually gig with this thing in some of the places I've been to lately. Loud really is over for all but the biggest outdoor festivals. You've got the "edge of breakup" thing happening at a level that will not summon the angry curmudgeons and the men with guns. Our hyper sensitive, easy offended, snowflake world desperately needs such a thing to keep the art of electric guitar from becoming extinct. You have done it with this one. Maybe we should nominate you for the Nobel Peace prize.

That's a great little machine, Terry! Love the look and the simplicity of the build. You've outdone yourself! And Bob is a joy to listen to playing.
Question, I just came across two vintage console cabinet systems: A Zenith 10H20Z w/included turntable, and a Philco 39-45. I was wondering the best place to research and get with like minds on those. I don't know if I'll be refirbing them myself, or passing them on to someone who is better suited for the task, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I LOVE Click PLC's. I have a few of them at home. THe software is not as powerful as Allen Bradly, but the actual PLC's themselves, are very powerful for the size. You can even use the ethernet version as a remote I/O for an Allen bradley.

Sounds pretty good for a tube that was intended for TV use. What's the output on that amp? 3 watts? I love how it's "Quiet Loud" (as opposed to QUITE loud) when cranked!
