This was such a pleasant surprise. I didn’t expect much from this movie and was glad I took a chance and watched it. There were a lot of funny and touching moments in this and the ending was pretty satisfying
Note: one of the few times I was able to relate to a main character

The only “luggage” that goes missing is old Dolio‘s. It would have raised suspicion if all of their luggage would have been “stolen “. This is the reason why they pretended to not know her. Also Old Dolio was not paid to go to the second parenting class where her hair was “brushed “. The original girl that had paid her to attend the class that went over the breast crawl, she was in the second class with Old Dolio. She went back to the class due to her profound experience the first time around when she saw the breast crawl.

First y’all are adorbs! 😍 I love how Joseph always redirects Nick back to the point 14:26 Second, I can’t get past the fact this family could easily solve their problems by getting basic jobs. Third, while I’m sure this movie is fantastic ( I adore Debra Winger) I cannot stand Gina Rodriguez. She’s rude and disrespectful in real life.

I’m going to watch this. I haven’t gotten into Jane the virgin, either. Maybe I’ll check that out now, too. Thanks for an interesting review. I like Debra winger.

Yes, as in stated in another comment here and also from personal observation, it’s easy to see that it’s just as easy to be on the grid than off the grid. Really, it’s easier to be on the grid. People w that hustler attitude are exchanging one set of problems for another.

I just saw this and I agree that the opening was a bit concerning...but I'm glad I stayed for the ride. It was definitely a quirky and original film!

Robbing the mail is dumb bc it’s a federal charge. The crime doesn’t fit the time.

The ending... I don’t know if it was intentional, but I’m not entirely convinced Old Dolio was lying about robbing Melanie when they were talking in the gas station bathroom.
Old Dolio was already awake and walking out of Melanie’s apartment when Melanie awoke. Then they both walk out to see the places cleared out and the money gone. We’ll never know Old Dolio’s reaction (surprise or meh) because Melanie did awaken, but I just don’t know.
The kiss in the department store only further shows me that Old Dolio is on an emotional see-saw the entire film. She could just as easily jet back to her parents later that night and take the $500 with her from the returns.

I think she was lying about robbing Melanie. What do you mean about old dolio's reaction?

Old Dolio was already up and getting ready to leave while Melanie was still sleeping. Then Melanie woke up and Old Dolio turned around and went back into the bedroom (or, really, never entirely left the bedroom).
We’ll never know what Old Dolio’s reaction would have been to seeing the place cleaned out without Melanie there. Was she in on it the whole time? Was she telling the truth to Melanie about robbing her when they were at the gas station? Would she have just walked out and gone back to her parents had Melanie not awaken? I’m not entirely convinced Old Dolio is innocent and winds up staying with Melanie.

Cool! I’m not entirely convinced one way or another. We just see Old Dolio on such and emotional seesaw through the whole film that it wouldn’t shock me if she was actually still in on it with her parents and might have even left with the cash from the returns at her first opportunity.
It’s clear she wants more for her own life, but it’s also clear she has this weird co-dependency with her parents that I think takes more time to shed that she actually spent.

@@nicholastotoro7721 so I watched it again and Old Dolio did not return to the bedroom. We did get to see her reaction to me it was sadness mixed with disappointment because she finally believed her parents had changed. I don't believe that Old Dolio would go back entirely to her parents because Melanie gave her her first real taste of intimacy and comfort that she couldn't get from her parents. And hey maybe she was there to rob Melanie for her parents but I personally don't believe she was
