MISSING, starring Storm Reid, is a standalone sequel to the computer-screen-thriller SEARCHING. MISSING is also a screen-based film, and the editors, Arielle Zakowski and Austin Keeling, were kind enough to show me their very specific and unique post workflow to create it. As their first studio feature film, they really got thrown in the deep end working on such a technically challenging film, but their results speak for themselves - it's a great movie! And wonderfully edited. Go check out MISSING in theaters now, and see the extended 45 minute version of my interview with Austin and Arielle on my Patreon: / standardstoryco

About me:
I've been making short films for 20 years, starting at age 11. I directed my first feature film, Bad is Bad, in 2010. Made for only $6,000, the film went on to reach over 7 million views and garner critical acclaim. More recently, my short film, Will "The Machine", screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Released online in 2019, it reached over 1 million views in just a month. I also work as a video editor, cutting ads for clients such as Apple, Netflix, and Beats by Dre.

I’m making a short film for a film festival because of you!! Thank you so much for your work
Love that! Good luck!
@@StandardStoryCo thanks
good lord... that AE file... stuff of nightmares man
This is such an inventive little movie series. Its editing deserves Oscar recognition.
The one thing that impressed me with the trailer was the editing
You should do this more often or maybe rate our short films..... Great Video!
Just watched this last night! Never made the connection that windows on a computer could be simulated by layers, but it makes perfect sense
This is truly inspirational. 🖤
I like the idea of being able to show the viewer the sort of internal monolog as you mentioned. Great stuff. I'm learning a lot from your channel.
Went to high school with the producer. Very cool guy 😊
This is so dope, as I want to do the storytelling format through a screen. Thank you so much for this video!
You're the most inspirational film maker to me right now, great stuff!
2:11 damnnnnn that’s crazy so many layers
I love your work and content! Always get hyped whenever you release a video!
these videos better than college class
Hi Kent, just like to say congratulations with all your success. I’ve started watching your videos on UA-cam and been super inspired by them. I’ve always wanted to be a filmmaker since I was young and never been able to start filming. I now really want to start making films cause it’s always been a dream of mine. I’m going to start with by using my iPhone 13 pro and shoot with cinematic mode. I’ve been learning a lot with your videos so thank you very much for all that you share, and maybe one day I can share with you a film that I will have done.
Thanks man! And def go for it!
This was very entertaining and informative, hope to see more stuff like this on your channel.

Did they say they never used After Effects until this movie? If so, how do you even learn a program like AE while on a time crunch? Sheesh
Yup! Definitely a lot of pressure but also the best way to learn fast
Is that even possible to learn after effects on a job?
Apple should hire those editors ✍️📝✍️🎬🎥
That timeline is terrifying
What commercial house did she work at please?
I would love to know.
👌👌
Hello again.
I want to send you a little clip of the horror flick I made at my house stand by.

@@StandardStoryCo thanks

Better visit avatar's editing room next video!
Hey guys! I from Brazil, I have chances to be director of Warner Bros, Paramount? I study in university of Saint Luis
To be honest, i really hate these kind of movies. It feels so gimicky and doesen't even allow you to immerse yourself in the first place. Its also really distracting and i don't think that this concept works at all, for a feature film. Maybe in a single scene, but not for an entire movie. With that being said, the creative process was still interesting to watch.
I was skeptical having never seen one of these movies, but after watching Searching and Missing back to back… good storytelling is good storytelling, I thought they were both great and as a viewer you adapt quickly to the style so it doesn’t feel like a gimmick. My 2 cents!
