  • In this video, we're breaking down the art of slipping inside a jab and following up with four powerful counterattack options.
Slipping inside a jab is an essential skill for any kickboxer, as it allows you to exploit the opening created when your opponent throws a wide jab.
When your opponent throws a wide jab, they momentarily open up their guard, creating a gap in the middle. This is your opportunity to slip inside and counterattack effectively.
Let’s dive into the details of how to execute this inside slip and the four follow-up options you can use to dominate your opponent.
To slip inside the jab, as your opponent throws their jab, move your head to the inside of their jab, slipping past it. This movement should be quick and fluid, allowing you to stay balanced and ready for your counterattack.
For the follow-up options, the first is a straight cross. After slipping inside, fire a straight cross down the centerline. This punch takes advantage of the opening created by your opponent's jab and can land cleanly on their face or chin.
The second option is an inside left uppercut. As you slip inside, your body naturally turns, setting up the perfect angle to come back with an inside left uppercut. This punch will catch your opponent off guard and deliver a powerful blow to their chin or body.
The third option is a right overhand. If your opponent's chin is up high, slipping inside sets up a perfect opportunity to throw a right overhand. This punch comes over the top of their jab and can land with devastating force.
The fourth option is to check and counter. Slip inside and use your rear hand to check your opponent's rear hand, pinning it to their chest. Follow up with a big body shot and a headshot, usually with hooks. This combination can overwhelm your opponent and leave them vulnerable to further shots on the inside.
