Hey friends! I made another video reflecting on some of the common concerns in the comments of this video. Thanks for being a part of this conversation! I hope you check it out! ua-cam.com/video/YH85ECHsc1k/v-deo.html
As a former evangelical and a current yogi on the path of Santana Dharma let me say this: the highest teachings of the Gita aren't meant to be understood. They're meant to be experienced. If one requires a savior, Christianity is a good choice. If one seeks to save himself, yoga and the teachings of the Gita is a good choice. Peace and blessings, friend.
How do you know something to be the highest teaching of the Gita without understanding it? How do you experience something without knowing what you are experiencing? In the Gita, doesn't Lord Krishna call himself saviour? If you don't need a saviour, what are Hindu avatars for? The problem with Hinduism in general is its inherent contradictions. That is why Christianity makes much more sense.
@@albertd.6179 In my view, Christianity only makes much more (or any) sense if one presupposes both a god that is external from his own perspective/experience and that he needs a savior in the first place. This explains a key distinction between a dharmic faith and an Abrahamic one. In Hinduism, there is no need for a savior external of one's self to save him from the wrath of a deity outside of himself. Krishna never establishes himself as "the savior of mankind", but rather an example of the realized seeker. He democratizes "salvation" as a process anyone and everyone is capable of. The ultimate realization being that God alone is Real, and we are That. Hinduism is a tradition of questions and seeking rather than answers and believing. In my understanding, seeking to become a Mystery is far more fulfilling than begging the son of a god to save me for the wrath of this god (who also created me) because he allowed himself to be sacrificed to that god which is also his father. Believed literally, this is theocratic child abuse. Intuited symbolically, the story of Jesus points toward the same thing as the Gita and the story of Krishna. And that thing is the highest and ineffable Understandings of the Gita. You can experience a sunrise without understanding it. You can experience love without knowing what it is. There is a world beyond experience and knowledge, a world of intuition and feeling, of awe and wonder. It is only through laying down the need to know and understand that one can truly begin to See. Just my two cents, which isn't worth much.
Thanks for your comment. I suppose that could be one explanation, and I am just misunderstanding the text because of my pre-commitment to my religious/spiritual views. Another explanation for my different interpretation is that it was a correct view, and many gurus are often guilty of leading people away from a more plain reading of their own text because of their pre-commitment to their religious/spiritual ideologies. It all comes down to which view is correct. That's the question we need to ask, and we cannot rely on other people telling us the right answer. But we can consider what they have to say.
@@achristianperspective This is the reason why you need a guru to make you understand the wisdom of this book. You need a person of higher consciousness to explain it to you the exact meaning of the sacred texts.
See it from neutral view , not as a christian. Christian is one religion/ one way and not THE WAY. Krishna says we r made of senses(, sense organs make us learn, have perceptions), emotions, intellect, anger, guilt, enemity, desire, lust etc but , we shouldn't become their slave neither identify ourselves with them. Instead relaize that we r atma . We have many duties/actions/responses for a situation, and advices us to take the prescribed duty/ action only. If we become slave of emotions, listen to mind or heart we cannot perform our prescribed duty. Though this is hindu scriptures, it gives abhramic people a way to accept other human beings as pure souls and don't convert or punish for not converting, and embrace other human beings. Srimad bagawad Gita leads to peace and dosent talk of envegalize and gives asks us to stand for righteousness ( dharma) and establish sustainable world
@@achristianperspective Ok to simplify -----there is a concept called attached detachment in Gita ,this is what Gita is professing that grief, happiness comes and goes in life Krishna says neither get attached to it not make it the emotions your sole purpose of your life.......... Ex: if u are a doctor how do u feel operationf on your friend.........your attachment to your friend should not interfere in ur duty of being a doctor. "So your judgement and actions/duty should not be influence by your emotions" this is what that particulat Shloka said. To understand total Gita read whole of it .

@@Gabriel-qp5tn How is that hard to understand when Christians gladly accept that everyone in sinful and you need to accept Jesus as your savior and your sins will be dissolved. Hinduism says that everyone is not of aware of their real nature, Hinduism calls it ignorance and you have to 'wake up' to realize your true nature. When you realize your true nature sins are dissolved and all your doubts perish. And here is a kicker that will blow your mind: Hindu scriptures, specifically the Upanishads categorically state that when you ‘wake up’, you will find that all this 'real' world that you have been experiencing from your birth is all a dream! Christians reading this will no doubt say, this is just pure nonsense. Unless you research and find that in every century someone does 'wake up' and speak about their experience. And completely validate the Hindu scriptures. Google ‘Ramana Maharishi’ for example in recent times. or even Buddha - what did he say after enlightenment: I am now awake.
The point is not to become emotionless and callus, but to be wise and see things in perspective. To not become overwhelmed, but to remember our Eternal truth as servant of God and not to be too sucked in to the temporary reality we find ourselves in
This is the problem with any and every reader that they think it will make them emotionless. But the truth when u experience self from within, u will actually have more emotions and love for not just some specific people rather for every thing in this world including humans. It just make us know that humans and ur relatives should not be the center of ur life. U will start loving a non living wall made of concrete bcz u know that this is also God's form. It doesn't mean that those will give u pain when destroyed. Rather u will feel its dissolution.

I was raise as a Christian but I embrace Sanatan dharma , and to me the best translation and accurate edition is the Bhagavat Gita As it is , by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami because many of the others editions are cover mostly by impersonalism . The Gita message is for the whole mankind and not only for Hindus .
Others are not covered in impersonalism .. it is just that "As it is" is made to cope with Christian ideas.. I would suggest you to read Bhagwat Gita "The Song of God" by Swami Mukundananda.
As it is means that the author has not present his personal opinions instead he has present the Absolute truth without covering the main purpose in life which is how to surrender to Sri Bhagavan through Bhakti yoga and wake up prema Bhakti . It’s not a sectarian lnowlwdege rather universal and for thee whole humankind.
@@madhua I read both the Gita did u? I know what "As it is" is. It's a different commentary.. it is not superior or inferior in any aspect.. it is just that Shrila Prabhupada wrote it for the ideas to travel west.. and there is nothing changed or manipulated.. it's just a different commentary.. and the Gita I suggested it a more updated one in terms of commentary the knowledge is same ... So there is no best Gita.. "Gita is the best." The person making this video is biased and would not understand the Gita without a guru whichever Gita he reads.

Takes minimum a decade when you are a genius to understand this. Even the OP will eventually understand this and talk against his own video. Takes some time.
I don't think that the knowledge of God should be restricted to any language. I am a Hindu, and I think that English translations can be quite effective as long as we understand the ideas holistically. For example, the person who made this video seems to think that the text he is talking about is asking us to remove emotions from our lives. However, the same text also leads one to devotion (which cannot be separated from powerful emotions). To me, the message of the Gitā is to avoid unnecessary attachments that cause negative experiences. Also, the very fast that Lord Krishna was present before Arjuna demonstrates that God isn't only impersonal. Edit: After reading Shri Purohit's translation, I don't think that we reach the conclusion that God is solely impersonal. Here are the concerned words: “Arjuna asked: My Lord! Which are the better devotees who worship Thee, those who try to know Thee as a Personal God, or those who worship Thee as Impersonal and Indestructible? Lord Shri Krishna replied: Those who keep their minds fixed on Me, who worship Me always with unwavering faith and concentration; these are the very best. Those who worship Me as the Indestructible, the Undefinable, the Omnipresent, the Unthinkable, the Primeval, the Immutable and the Eternal; Subduing their senses, viewing all conditions of life with the same eye, and working for the welfare of all beings, assuredly they come to Me. But they who thus fix their attention on the Absolute and Impersonal encounter greater hardships, for it is difficult for those who possess a body to realise Me as without one." Here, Lord Krishna says that worship him (the personal God) are the "very best". How would they be the very best if the impersonal God was the only reality? Then, Lord Krishna talks about realising the impersonal Brahman and how difficult it is to do so. This shows that that the impersonal Brahman is also real.
3:34 Chapter 3: Karma-yoga TEXT 9 yajnarthat karmano 'nyatra loko 'yam karma-bandhanah tad-artham karma kaunteya mukta-sangah samacara SYNONYMS yajna-arthat-only for the sake of Yajna, or Visnu; karmanah-work done; anyatra-otherwise; lokah-this world; ayam-this; karma-bandhanah-bondage by work; tat-Him; artham-for the sake of; karma-work; kaunteya-O son of Kunti; mukta-sangah-liberated from association; samacara-do it perfectly. TRANSLATION Work done as a sacrifice for Visnu has to be performed, otherwise work binds one to this material world. Therefore, O son of Kunti, perform your prescribed duties for His satisfaction, and in that way you will always remain unattached and free from bondage. PURPORT Since one has to work even for the simple maintenance of the body, the prescribed duties for a particular social position and quality are so made that that purpose can be fulfilled. Yajna means Lord Visnu, or sacrificial performances. All sacrificial performances also are meant for the satisfaction of Lord Visnu. The Vedas enjoin: yajno vai visnuh. In other words, the same purpose is served whether one performs prescribed yajnas or directly serves Lord Visnu. Krsna consciousness is therefore performance of yajna as it is prescribed in this verse. The varnasrama institution also aims at this for satisfying Lord Visnu. "Varnasramacara-vata purusena parah puman/visnur aradhyate..." (Visnu Purana 3.8.8) Therefore one has to work for the satisfaction of Visnu. Any other work done in this material world will be a cause of bondage, for both good and evil work have their reactions, and any reaction binds the performer. Therefore, one has to work in Krsna consciousness to satisfy Krsna (or Visnu); and while performing such activities one is in a liberated stage. This is the great art of doing work, and in the beginning this process requires very expert guidance. One should therefore act very diligently, under the expert guidance of a devotee of Lord Krsna, or under the direct instruction of Lord Krsna Himself (under whom Arjuna had the opportunity to work). Nothing should be performed for sense gratification, but everything should be done for the satisfaction of Krsna. This practice will not only save one from the reaction of work, but will also gradually elevate one to transcendental loving service of the Lord, which alone can raise one to the kingdom of God.
I don't think so. If you are under the guidance of guru, you will understand the actual things. If you are Christian/Muslim understanding Geeta from your perspective/pre assumption notion you will definitely not.
the author of this video is commenting excluding the most important context of The Bhagvad Gita that it is narrated in the middle of a battlefield where the forces of good are fighting the forces of evil ; morality or righteousness or dharma vs immorality or delusion or evil or adharm. Arjun is fighting for Dharm or righteousness against some of his own family members who have voluntarily decided to fight for evil. THIS IS ARJUN'S DILEMMA OR HIS DELUSION WHICH GOD KRISHN IS TRYING TO MAKE HIM SEE AND THROUGH THE BHAGVAD GITA GOD ADVISES HIM TO FIGHT AND NOT BE BLINDED BY LOVE OR EMOTIONS OR SENTIMENTS HE BEARS FOR HIS FAMILY 🌀🛕
People would have called Christianity paradoxical to that of human nature back when it came unto the scene. Telling a roman solder to love their enemy would have been considered counter-intuitive. Understand that Arjuna is a warrior and that his duty is to fight in this war.
Bhagvad Gita songs of God It is NOT a "Holy" book but a book of mind science Krishna is telling Arjuna this same action of going to war against his cousins who usurped the kingdom. In other circumstances would yield KARMA (,action) With KARMA (action) there's No KARMA (action) Without KARMA ( action) there's KARMA ( action) One would be held accountable for the GOOD THEY DID NOT DO WHEN it was in their power to do so Note the fruits of Christianity Both Islam and Christianity both built on towers of skulls over ocean of innocent blood Inquisition? World War one and two?? African slavery , genocide of indigenous peoples of America?? Six million Jews?? When have Christianity ever considered living fr sacred
Thanks for uploading!! Having read Bible and Quran. My understanding is: Krishna's Bhagavadgita would admonish us to SEEK and not to believe without experiencing. In Bhagavadgita Chapter 18, as Krishna drives the conversation to conclusion, asks Arjuna to do logical reasoning with all the details that he explained and DO WHAT HE WOULD LIKE TO DO (i.e to pick up the bow and get on with war or to run away from the war!). Also, within Bhagavadgita, Krishna has given methods and means to practice yoga to experience what he told about. In Abrahamic religious texts, Bible and Quran, main weakness is lack of any methods to self inquiry or to get on with any specific practices to experience what is explained in those scriptures! While I recognise Jesus as a plausible Yogi, I have very negative opinion about Muhammad and his (very barbaric?) life and the Quranic verses - full of contradictory details. For Christians, Jesus stand out as an excellent role model to emulate to understand life and living. Also, luckily for Christians as societies, science came handy that enabled them to challenge the iron grip of the Clergy on day to day living of Christians and then they became humane and compassionate societies and modern Nation States during the past century! However, muslims do not have any role model of authority that they can truly follow to live peacefully! As also, without any tool to generate a counter narrative to islamic conquest jihadi mullahs, the majority sane muslims are not able to collectively figure a way out from the grip of these one ummah islamic conquest Jihadi mullahs who have spread their tentacles in every veins and arteries of their religious/day to day life/living! Needless to say, as the age of modern science, technology and communication advances, role of religions in day to day life of human beings will come down significantly in the decades to come!
For the intelligent children parents give knowledge and understanding, then ask the children to go do their rightful duty in life. For the less intelligent children parents leave simple written set of instructions of what to do and what not to do. The fault is not with parents, but they hope to keep their children safe and well. It’s the children that have to grow and become better parents so they can give their children knowledge and freedom to do the right thing. Jai Shiri Krishnas.
Quite contrary I would think as the religion has always play psychological effects and calmness to individual life with the increase in confusion of lot of information the religion palys a good filter in one's life to which idea or data to use for benefits and which to be abandoned
The message of gita is not to become emotionless like a rock solid, but it is to direct all the emotions, thoughts, actions towards the supreme soul sri krishna, we are the soul and our happiness lies in krishna rather than materialism, the lord himself explains that to overcome material desires and suffering attach your mind to the transcendental lord, by doing this you will naturally overcome all material desires, passions, grief, etc
Yeah but no one has ever done this, not even yogis. Jesus has though, and his conquering of death gives you a chance to ressurect with him. I am reading gita, I have seen some truths, but it is flawed.
God is to be experienced, realized, felt and seen within yourself. Bhagavad Gita is not just to read but to experience and know about life, Karma ( action) Dharma ( duty) and Moksha( salvation ). Only with God's grace people will be able to understand, realize and feel God 's supreme power and grace.
The two underlying themes of Bhagvad Geeta was 1. Karma and 2. Dharma. You don't need someone (Jesus) to die for others sins. 3. You and you alone are responsible for your deeds. 4. The soul has to attain Moksha ( salvation) by following the paths laid down by Krishna
If Hindus are born divine, how can they believe in karma? If they believe in sin and evil, what is Krishna's solution to it? If you do not need Jesus to die for your sins, it means either you do not believe in the existence of sin and that you don't commit any sin or if you believe, you think you can solve it and overcome it on your own without God's help. Regarding dharma, no two Hindus have the same understanding. Still what is commonly described as dharma has nothing strictly Hindu about it. What Hindus don't want to admit or talk about is that dharma has something to do with the maintenance of the caste system. To say that you alone are responsible for your deeds is easier said than done. In reality, responsibility is a complex matter. The soul has to attain moksha, true. But how can Krishna show the path to attain it when he himself did not act by the principles of dharma?
@@albertd.6179 I was going to ignore your comments but then i read " if you don't believe.in jesus....... Or you don't commit any sin" ..can I ask ..what is that logic? I don't believe that Jesus died for my sins , so if i commit sin . My soul is responsible for that . Pipeline is simple . You commit grave sins(whether you believe in Jesus or not )..you got to yama ..who assign you to hell .. you serve in hell until you have paid for your sins and then you come out as pure soul .. ready for reincarnation ..and cycle repeat until moksha . Seems pretty simple with self accountability. Noone died for anyone's sin .. because no one had to . Seems better than " i forgive absolutely everything except if you don't believe in me " also ..no dharma doesn't exist to upheld caste system ..since there no concept of a religion as such in Hinduism many interpreted dharma as .. religion .no . it's more like rightful duty of professionals . A dentists dharma is to fix people's oral hygiene and he must do it with without any selfishness . Hinduism doesn't need you to be hindu to got to heaven .. it's purely on KARMA . and finally Krishna has said multiple times that his job is to show you path .. walking on it is your and mine job ..if you want to see an avatar . Go through a full cycle of humanity and face all things himself and live through dharma ..study lord RAM .he came before Krishna and without any power unlike Krishna .
@@rao5826 While it may be true that Westerners usually misunderstand the concept of Karma, it is also true that no two Hindus can explain this concept without contradictions. For example, you said Karma does not mean sin whereas another Hindu would say that bad karmas lead to sin. In the same way, Dharma has a counterpart called adharma, isn't it? What is adharma if not something that leads to sin?
@@rao5826 If I am not mistaken, I heard it from Rajiv Malhotra who said that the Hindu Good News is that Hindus are born divine so that they don't not need a saviour. Moreover, Hindus also believe that Atman and Brahman are one. So my question is: how do you understand sin and evil in this world?
i think the bhagavad gita cant be said to be about numbing or ignoring suffering but rather transcending it by realizing the nature of the soul which is part and parcle with god. by practicing the yogas explained in gita, one is freed from suffering through knowledge and subsequent union with god
0:47 he was a warrior, whose duty/dharma was to fight. It was never about why or what other people are doing for power. He was facing his own family members. It was personal, hence the dilemma, a poison. And Krishna gave him the antidote "DO NOT WORRY", and explained why one should not worry by explaining life, death, reality of oneself, universe etc. etc.
It is difficult for a western mind to understand the deep philosophy of the Bhagwad Gita but in short Lord Krishna tells Arjun the warrior that his duty is to fight for justice. His war is for justice and this his duty.
@@palk04924 I already have the light. What about you lost soul? Struck with your unlimited number of god? Come to Jesus. He is unlimited. You don’t need unlimited number of gods if you have Jesus Christ
Matthew Tingblad's primary pushback was Krishna's apparent disdain towards emotions and feelings: "Give up these petty weaknesses of heart!" (Bg 2.3) But if one studies the theology further, they might learn that a line is being drawn between emotions connected to the subjective, impermanent, material creation... and those connected with the eternal identity of the soul. Rather than being "anti-human" as Matt suggested, it is actually an invitation to explore a deeper sense of identity that lies above & beyond the illusory covering of bodily relationships (like race, gender, family, nationality, etc). That deeper identity is intimately and eternally connected with the emotions and feelings that we value and are currently projecting onto this impermanent world.
7:12 Gita doesn't ask anyone to follow worship impersonal form. Rather the text (12.5) is: "For those whose minds are attached to the unmanifest, the path of realization is full of tribulations. Worship of the unmanifest is exceedingly difficult for embodied beings." Are you sure you meant chapter 12?
From your opening statement it is clear that you didn't understand Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta at all. Arjun is not overwhelmed because of warfare, but because the people who he has to kill or fight are his own relatives, his cousins, uncles, tachers, his great grand father, whom he love a and respects so much, with whom he spent his childhood, learnt everything from them. Krishna is not disguised as charioteer, he is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Krishna is asking Arjun to follow his Dharma, which is to fight for the right, and not worry about killing those who are fighting for the wrong, even if they are his relatives or dear ones. To make him come out of his Moh or desire for his loved ones, Krishna gives him the eternal knowledge about the Atma, which never dies. There are many such things which you didn't get right, that's why you need a Guru for understanding it.
Bhagavad Gita became a monumental text only after Sri Adi Sankara wrote a commentary on it in 800 AD. His is the golden standard. I would suggest get a English translation and read it.

If you are only able to understand what you see in front of you, and cannot get beyond the belief that you are a name and set of memories, ideas and feeling then follow Christ's teaching with full awareness. That is your path. If you have an inkling that you as a being are more than just the material, emotional and intellectual and that you may be none of these then seek deeper. Meditate. Read a variety of spiritual literature. Find a path you are comfortable with. Earnestly ask yourself, who am I?
Bhagwan Krishna is not asking to 'abandon' emotions like you mention around the 3:45 mark. he is asking for one to not be swayed by , or give in to, emotions like all of us are bound to do. getting swayed by emotions leads to greater imbalance and one ends up giving in to thoughts often beyond our control. the essence of his teachings is to be aware of emotions and not be swayed. to perform actions for its own sake and not for any expectations, because actions are often the only thing within our control.
Bhagavathi Gita is a more complex then what you have explained. It starts with Arjun’s “Vishad Yoga” meaning despondency of Arjun upon seeing his uncles, cousins and friends aligned against him in the battlefield. These are his enemies and are either themselves evil or are supporting an unjust cause. Krishna then explains to Arjun various spiritual methods; karma, gyan, raj and bhakti yoga. He tells Arjun to do his duty as a warrior to uphold dharm (righteousness) and not get swayed by emotions which arise from ignorance of our underlying true selves as atman that transcends life and death. This, the message in Gita is to rise above personal likes and dislikes and do rightful actions as per one’s dharm. Just imagine how good a place the world would be if everyone did action as per their role in life without bringing in petty selfishness and egos. This (nishkaam karm) is a key message of the Gita. The beauty of this scripture comes through towards the end where Krishna tells Arjuna that he has revealed the eternal wisdom of Gita to him and now it is up to him to follow it as per his personality. No force or dictates that this is the only way or else you are doomed.
Wow this guy GROSSLY misunderstood the message of the Gita. He definitely got he wrong translation so that doesn't help but wow lol. The Vedic paradigm makes soooooo much more sense than any Christian or Western theology/philosophy. My man, you are SOOOOOOOO wrong where you say in this video around 7:18 that Krishna says to worship Him as impersonal and not personal... The entire message of the Gita is ultimately to guide us on the path of Bhakti, devotion to God. Krishna goes through explaining many different yogic paths, but very clearly tells us that ultimately bhakti yoga is the highest, pure devotion and surrender to God in His personal form - Krishna very clearly tells us that He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead - and that He is the source of the Impersonal Brahman. Get yourself Bhagavad-gita AS IT IS please. These mayavadi translations are misrepresenting the true message of the Gita. You have clearly understood absolutely nothing of the true message of the Gita.

Bhagavat gita alone doesn't tell you the character of krishna... you have to take a look at krishna's story where he was insanely human at certain points and insanely God on the other, the same God that ran away from his mother for stealing butter but even showed the entire universe in his mouth.
Geeta is all about knowledge beyond reasoning , which is called realization of eternal truth. Geeta chapter 6 explain the procedure to contain oneself, Chapter 2 tells about work without selfish desire, when Krishna talks of desires , if is always about unhealthy attachment for objects. It is not about leaving everything and go astray. It is about work excellently without attachment or outcome because we can only get outcome , not control anything. Thus the bondage of things will not bother us, but this does not work overnight, It takes years of practice.
Don't believe someone who preach but not practice what they preach. They are called hypocrites. Krishna did not practice what he preached. He is a petty thief.

Lord krishna does not tell you to quite the desire, passion . Gita says to do your duty which is right , but with detachment. That's why he tells Arujun to fight war against evil, because it's his duty as a warrior, don't think about the result, just fight the war because it's your duty. Arujun was emotional because the war was his own brother and relative but they were on the unrighteous path. That's why krishna asks him to do this duty that is fight war by being detached from relation with the unrighteous people
Just like Arjun benefited from the Shrimad Bhagvadgita because he seeked help from Shri Krishna and by listening to the gita he was enlightened because his intention was to seek help and blessings. On the contrary Dhritarashtra and Sanjay also listened to the gita but their intentions were no where near Arjun, that is why they couldn't experience what Arjun did. This is my point, the intention that you bear deep inside plays an important role in understanding and learning from the gita. 🙏🏼
Forgotten pain and suffering doesn't mean don't be human... It simply means don't forget your human duty.. All this discussion is because Arjun was not ready to fulfill his duty to protect... That's where Krishna showed him big picture that this body is mortal and your emotions should not be bigger than your duty for this mortal body.. Very simple for us to understand... Very difficult for others to understand...
I understand your Christian perspective however you cannot approach the depth of Gita through Christian ideology. You have to be a perfectly neutral seeker first. For example you said that The Gita asks you to lose your passions, anger, sadness and that is dangerous in your point of view because it is asking you to loose "your Self". Nope ! Therein lies one of the key differences between Christian and Vedic Philosophy i.e. The very definition of "Self". Christian psyche thinks that "passions", "sadness", "grief", human emotions in general are a part of "Self"(honestly in reality it's Greek Philosophy not Christian. Christianity doesn't define any components of a human being viz. mind, brain, Self etc.), BUT in Vedic Philosophy human emotions are only a part of the mind and a human entity has 49+ types of Prānas, Mind, Budhhi which is controls the mind, Chitta which is still higher, then comes 5 types of bodies both gross and subtle, 5 sense organs and their subjects of attachment, Ahamkāra or false ego etc. And all these are only coverings of Ātma which is just a spark of pure consciousness. The very Samskrit word "Ātma" means "Self". So in the Vedic process human emotions that you are scared to lose actually is the reason for the "Self" to be trapped in this vast expanse of material existence and hence miseries, more emotions more material miseries and as long as you are loaded with them you cannot find The "Self" and cannot go to The Supreme Being's Transcendental Abode because you haven't transcended human passions. Christ gave up human emotions if you read the Bible deeply. Only a person who has given up/controlled his normal human passions or emotions and urges can calmly sit and have dinner in the last supper fully knowing what events will follow next.. Did he loose his "Self" ? No ! That's exactly the way of Yoga i.e. Bhāgavata Gita ! He knew he would be Crusified and his mother would be devastated and yet he let his mother and his disciples be broken with grief. Jesus even joins the ears of The Roman soldier who came to arrest him and tells his disciple to stand down and let go of the Sword. This is teaching his disciples to give up human normal emotions and passions. He also tells a man whose father had died to come with him instead of burying his father ! He says, "let the dead bury themselves" ! That is all getting rid of normal human passions and emotions just like Śhrī Krishna instructs in The Bhāgavata Gita ! And no Bhāgavata Gita doesn't recommended impersonal Worship nor does any other Vedic Text. In The Vedic way the Personal and The Impersonal aspects of Śhrī Krishna are both equally important, The Impersonal is for Knowing and The Personal for direct Worshiping and having a personal relationship with. That's why through all of The Vedic Canon Śhrī Krishna and His Other Avatāras are understood very very much as Personalities(with thousands of accounts of Their great and Transcendental Deeds)and as The Original Cause of everything manifest and unmanifest including The Impersonal aspect. That's why Hindus worship Personal Forms of Deities made of Wooden, Metallic, Rock, Painting etc. Christianity only imbibes "faith" , "belief", "fear of hell" and hence "prayer" and "strengthing of faith" BUT no knowledge or logical explanation of anything about human existence and the cosmos. Vedic Knowledge gives vast knowledge through which faith develops naturally and hence doesn't need to be artificially imposed as in Christianity. The two are very different Systems and if you judge The Gita from a Christian perspective it will naturally seem counter intuitive to your conditioned mind.
There is a big difference in beleving God and seeking God. Belief settles only human anxiety....does not give knowledge more than a small book of middle eastern origin..
Thanks for your interest in Bhagavat Gita. I would suggest that you connect with Jaffrey Amstrong ( Kabindra Rishi ), a Canadian/ US citizen, and a scholar in comparative religion. He has been practicing Hinduism for over 50 years now after having born in an Orthodox Christian family. He too translated Gita after spending10 years. He may put some light to your perspective..
You are doing great Bro. Just keep questioning and you will get the answers. If you don't question and simply accept, it is just a belief; But if you seek answers, the answer is the knowledge. That's why Hindutva (Sanatana Dharma) is not a belief system, it is a way of life.
Not only gita teaches the path of austerity but also buddhism which take this thing to a full strech. Lord buddha also emphasized to shed desires to see the complete truth.
*3:20** I think u misunderstood. We should not abandon desires, passions, etc. We should overcome them. Abandoning and overcoming are two different things. U can have all of them yet can be free from suffering caused by them. It's detached involvement. U are still intensly involved in everything yet U know this is temperory and thus don't suffer anything. It's not counterintuitive. And not counter Human.*
You missunderstood the verses. Listen to Yatharth Geeta by Swami Adhgadanadh(English), its the as it is translation of Geeta. The Arjuna was not a real person, nor the war was physical war , its more deep than just God and following him. Krishna calls himself Yogeshwar and not a Avatar or Reincarnation of God on earth. He says that when a meditator long the practice soo much so that God and him becomes one , so he is the God and you also can be❤
To attain higher levels of awareness one needs to lose ones limiting personality ,ones small self. It doesn't mean your personality is lost, it means you are now identifying yourself with a greater one. Just as the caterpillar stops identifying itself as a caterpillar and eventually metamorphoses in to butterfly. Moreover if you come from a perspective instead of a blank page I understand it will be difficult for you to understand what Gita has to offer.
You can't understand Geeta just by reading it with lower state of mind & consciousness level. The main difference between Sanatan philosophy and Abrahamic religions is the concept of body and soul. Sanatan religion believes that you are the soul and body is a vehicle, in contrast Abrahamic religions believe that you are the body and soul is vehicle. That's why in Hindu philosophy there is a concept of rebirth based on your karma i.e. deeds and contrary to this Abrahamic religions think that this is the only life you have got, so consume & enjoy the natures gifts at Max. This is the result of all your lust, greed and desires. Geeta profess that body is a mere vehicle in this life for you, it's like a cloth you have got in this life so why to be mad about it and forget the the soul which is real you. This is the reason that it only ask you to respect the nature, consume what is required to keep you alive and work on the greater goal of life of attaining higer level of consciousness and salvation. You need to understand what Heisenberg, Tesla, Einstein understood from Geeta. Sorry to say this but with Abrahamic mindset you can't understand Geeta.

I think you're right at the levels of the ideas, some of what Hinduism offers is counter-intuitive. But it's also not a religion of faith per se: There's no expectation that you take it on faith that letting go of desires and your typical sense of self is a good idea. Instead it's something you can experience for yourself through the active aspects of Hinduism - mainly yoga (though of course not the simple form of gymnastics that a lot of people call yoga). It's more about the yoga of prayer, chanting, and meditation. As you move forward you begin to experience greater peacefulness, joy, and ecstasy, such that you may be in the world be not be of the world. If you don't have the experience at some point, I'd agree that it's just an interesting sets of ideas at best. P.S. Many forms of Christianity also have the idea of letting go or being forgetful of the self and practicing constant remembrance of God. It can be found in Catholic and Orthodox mysticism. It's not exactly the same as Christianity due to the person of Christ and the Trinity, but you can see a lot of resemblance and the Hindu ideas seem a lot less foreign. A classic Catholic mystical text is "The Cloud of Unknowing".
As a hindu, never read Gita published by ISCON , instead of it you may read translation "The god song ".But never read the book " Bhgwad geeta as it is" Self proclaimed as it is.
This is how any commentary should go . You don't have to agree with everything I have to say , but you can also deal with it compassionately and with mutual respect . I don't judge you by my cultural or moral values and neither should you
It also depends which translation of Bhagvat Gita you have , as if you have iskon version then bhakti of krisna is main goal as iskon is known to change the meaning of words for their motive so in many place you will find bhakti of krisna or bhakti as main goal or ultimate truth or place.
Exactly and I don't understand why these Christians never read the main philosophical texts like the Upanishads and shankara bhasya(commentary) who better explain these stuff. Not only Christians but the Hindus as well. And now they are all fooled by iskcon to reject the main scriptures.

I couldn't disagree more on your interpretations/perspective of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. But I commend that you put forth your understanding of what you read. We dont work with just one book, one gospel, or one prophecy...there are plethora of books available on the subject of self realizations and the guru has their collective knowledge, therefore he can guide you towards correct meaning of what is written down. It's like explaining double slit experiment observer effect to a high-school student. Only with a good experienced teacher one might get the real essence of what happens in that experiment, others will think it as a hoax or a fairytale. I request you to read Shrimad Bhagavad Gita multiple times before you reach to a conclusion. In eastern philosophy, you can't master the essence of any book in one or two reads. Once you finish that, read 'Ashtaavakra Gita'. Also, please claim to the universe that you are longing for a guru. The universe will provide a guru to you at a right time. Just to make us on the same page, their is no rational proof that Jesus was conceived by his mother, Mary, through the power of the Holy Spirit and without sexual intercourse. But you tend to believe it don't you ? But where else on planet earth will you find this phenomenon written in spiritual books? In Hinduism. Try exploring other books of 'Sanatana Dharma' and you might find the answers that you are looking for as a Christian.
12th chapter of Gita in fact says that we should worhship Krishna as personal, that is direct meaníng. And in the end of the 14th chapter Krishna says that He as personal God is source of impersonal "holy spirit" which emanates from Him.
If you already have a biased mindset while reading Gita. You will not understand it. Gita is the only book needed for realising god. Nothing else is needed. Hare Krishna.
To Hindus, shedding your desires and grief doesn't mean abandonment. It means realising the fact that all desire, grief, happiness, love, lust and other emotions are ephemeral. All that exists must someday cease. And all that ceases provides the materials and lessons to the future and creates this cycle. It is not the absence of feeling, but rather understanding the nature of feeling and the universe itself. A state where you realise that all that exists are part of the same thread. Based on scripture, it is an extremely blissful state where you are one with yourself and everything around you.

Well from Hindu perspective I can criticise Christianity in multiple ways that may hurt your feelings. If you can't realise things with your shallow and cheap knowledge then don't comment.
you are wrong , its not about abandoning emotions but your emotions should not affect your actions and decisions and follow your own dharma(which is follow your true nature) , (i mean even all our gods are humans in nature you can read any stories and their actions are human so that people could connect with them . ). In Srimad Bhagwad-Gita ,krishna guides arjuna to follow his dharma which is kshatriya(warrior) and he has to fight to protect his kingdom even if its going against his family . All the gods (which are the forms of only true god ishwar(or brahman)) in Sanatan Dharma(which is true name of hinduism ) represent different paths(because every person is different ) as the saying goes 'there is only one destination but the possible paths are infinite'. Sanatan Dharma in itself is a way of life and not religion and it says there is more than one way which of course contradicts with christianity and islam .It also believes in only true god(brahman or ishwar) but the only difference between our and their religion is it that they believes there way is 'The Way ' while sanatan dharma says there is more than one way and that personification of gods in different ways can make the connection with the god more intimate. PS.i think there must be some translation problem, get a reliable book will you?
why krishna said arjun to fig-ht to know this you should read "mahabharata" first then you will understand , these people was ADHARMI means not following DHARMA, just read you will get answers.

Now here's the reason why one needs a guru in the spiritual journey.

Hindu scriptures, specifically the Upanishads categorically state that when you ‘wake up’, you will find that all this 'real' world that you have been experiencing from your birth is all a dream!

Bhagvat Gita can be easily misunderstood if you follow English translations.
💯
Here are the concerned words:
“Arjuna asked: My Lord! Which are the better devotees who worship Thee, those who try
to know Thee as a Personal God, or those who worship Thee as Impersonal and
Indestructible?
Lord Shri Krishna replied: Those who keep their minds fixed on Me, who worship Me
always with unwavering faith and concentration; these are the very best.
Those who worship Me as the Indestructible, the Undefinable, the Omnipresent, the
Unthinkable, the Primeval, the Immutable and the Eternal;
Subduing their senses, viewing all conditions of life with the same eye, and working for
the welfare of all beings, assuredly they come to Me.
But they who thus fix their attention on the Absolute and Impersonal encounter greater
hardships, for it is difficult for those who possess a body to realise Me as without one."
Here, Lord Krishna says that worship him (the personal God) are the "very best". How would they be the very best if the impersonal God was the only reality?
Then, Lord Krishna talks about realising the impersonal Brahman and how difficult it is to do so. This shows that that the impersonal Brahman is also real.

TEXT 9
yajnarthat karmano 'nyatra

SYNONYMS
yajna-arthat-only for the sake of Yajna, or Visnu; karmanah-work done; anyatra-otherwise; lokah-this world; ayam-this; karma-bandhanah-bondage by work; tat-Him; artham-for the sake of; karma-work; kaunteya-O son of Kunti; mukta-sangah-liberated from association; samacara-do it perfectly.
TRANSLATION
Work done as a sacrifice for Visnu has to be performed, otherwise work binds one to this material world. Therefore, O son of Kunti, perform your prescribed duties for His satisfaction, and in that way you will always remain unattached and free from bondage.
PURPORT
Since one has to work even for the simple maintenance of the body, the prescribed duties for a particular social position and quality are so made that that purpose can be fulfilled. This practice will not only save one from the reaction of work, but will also gradually elevate one to transcendental loving service of the Lord, which alone can raise one to the kingdom of God.

the author of this video is commenting excluding the most important context of The Bhagvad Gita that it is narrated in the middle of a battlefield where the forces of good are fighting the forces of evil ; morality or righteousness or dharma vs immorality or delusion or evil or adharm. Arjun is fighting for Dharm or righteousness against some of his own family members who have voluntarily decided to fight for evil.
While I recognise Jesus as a plausible Yogi, I have very negative opinion about Muhammad and his (very barbaric?) life and the Quranic
verses - full of contradictory details.

The two underlying themes of Bhagvad Geeta was
1. Karma and 2. Dharma.
You don't need someone (Jesus) to die for others sins.
3. You and you alone are responsible for your deeds.
4. The soul has to attain Moksha ( salvation) by following the paths laid down by Krishna
Exactly. Karma and Dharma are the core principles of Hinduism
And Krishna gave him the antidote "DO NOT WORRY", and explained why one should not worry by explaining life, death, reality of oneself, universe etc. etc.

Matthew Tingblad's primary pushback was Krishna's apparent disdain towards emotions and feelings: "Give up these petty weaknesses of heart!" (Bg 2.3)
But if one studies the theology further, they might learn that a line is being drawn between emotions connected to the subjective, impermanent, material creation... and those connected with the eternal identity of the soul.
Emotions should be kept under logic. Logic(tarka) is better than feelings or emotions. Emotions are to be controlled not shown to the enemy.
7:12 Gita doesn't ask anyone to follow worship impersonal form.
Rather the text (12.5) is: "For those whose minds are attached to the unmanifest, the path of realization is full of tribulations. Worship of the unmanifest is exceedingly difficult for embodied beings."

Ok to simplify Ok to simplify -----there is a concept called attached detachment in Gita ,this is what Gita is professing that grief, happiness comes and goes in life Krishna says neither get attached to it not make it the emotions your sole purpose of your life..........
The larger manifestation of krishna with countless heads, mouths, eyes etc only means that since god exists and manifests in all forms of life, all their faces, eyes, and forms are shown as a part of larger manifestation....you couldn't relate to geeta because it should be read and understood under the larger perspective of each and every situation and condition and history that occured that finally led to the great war. Independent reading of gita as a text will not suffice to understand it.

Respect for reading the Gita, but you have misinterpreted the Gita
Thanks for your comment. I have some formal training in how to properly interpret a text, though in this video I'm not doing a deep interpretive dive but more giving a summary and providing my overall reaction to the content I see here, and comparing it with a Christian perspective. But I am curious if you spotted any interpretive errors or fallacies do you think I have committed? (Normally when people say I have misinterpreted something, what they really mean is that they disagree with what I'm saying because it doesn't resonate with them, or I'm not thinking like an Easterner or something of that sort.)
@@achristianperspectiveit's actually because Sanskrit is a language that has so many words which is hard to translate so many versions of Gita are mistranslated, i recommend you to read "bhagvat Gita as it is" it's actually translated by a Indian monk who understands the Gita.

Krishan never said to give on dreams.
Krishna said to achieve dreams you got to focus on preset by taking action.
In order to understand that why Lord Krishna advised Arjuna in the Bhagwad Gita one must read the Mahabharat .The Gita is a part of the Mahabharat.
Best explanation ever 👌 🙏
There is a big difference in beleving God and seeking God.
Belief settles only human anxiety....does not give knowledge more than a small book of middle eastern origin..
Thanks for your interest in Bhagavat Gita. I would suggest that you connect with Jaffrey Amstrong ( Kabindra Rishi ), a Canadian/ US citizen, and a scholar in comparative religion. Gita's message is for salvation of humanity.
You are doing great Bro. Just keep questioning and you will get the answers. If you don't question and simply accept, it is just a belief; But if you seek answers, the answer is the knowledge. That's why Hindutva (Sanatana Dharma) is not a belief system, it is a way of life.

From abrahamic lens understanding dharmic concepts is difficult,,u need a guru to break it down for u

It's not just a religious book it's more than that ❤
You can't understand Geeta just by reading it with lower state of mind & consciousness level.

In computer terms you think on application layer and Gita tells u at hardware level even before os layer.

I couldn't disagree more on your interpretations/perspective of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. But I commend that you put forth your understanding of what you read.
