As always, Chris (and Heidi), I am boggled with the technical skills of all those who helped conceive and build this singular instrument. Thanks for the share!
The Grand Cornet is interesting. I have played several baroque Spanish organs with huge cornets, for example the 1796 Verdalonga at Toledo Cathedral is 11 ranks (I think above middle c only) but no 7ths to my knowledge. The Spanish loved the cornet sound.
When tuning this division, because of so many similar-scaled ranks and at the same pitches planted right next to themselves, do they tend to draw into each other, or are they fairly independent and can hold their own temperament ok?
They draw like crazy and can be very difficult to tune accurately. That's why they use rank 21 or 22, I forget which, as a tuning stop , it's away from everything else so there's no drawing problem and those ranks can be tempered reasonably well. A lot of ranks are driven so hard and can be so "warbly" that tempering them accurately is really tough.
@@cnagorka Nice to learn about this. Spent some time taking with Brant about drawing, and looking at that setup, it seems like everything would draw! Is that Cornet chest able to turn on/off each rank individually from the chamber?
@@cnagorka Yes, that would help me, but when in reach, the hand is really good for setting scale. Love these vids, this instrument has fascinated since seeing it in books in the 70s as a kid.
🤔🤔☝️I Am Wondering Why Some Of The Pipe Ranks Are Not In Order Of Length But Still Are On The Same Wind 💨 Chest. I Thought Logically That The Line Up Of Pipe Ranks Went From The Smallest Rank In The Front Next Row The Next Size Up Ect. But Then I Suppose There Are More Ranks That Also More Than Likely Also Have To Share The Same Wind 💨 Chest. Awesome 👏 Video By The Way.
Because they are indeed on the chest in order of pitch- what you're seeing is the effect of having Harmonic pipes, which are double length for their pitch, interspersed with standard length open pipes.
Thank you so much for these gorgeous videos! So there is only Right Pedal and Choir division videos left for you to make for us, right??? 😂 Could you also do video about stoptablets layout on both consoles, please? Greetings from Czech republic, Třebíč!
Hello: Basically, you're right. But, I've got two videos in mind I've been wanting to make for a while, a deep dive on the Swell/Choir mutations, and a comparison of the 50" and 100" reeds in the organ. The trouble is those videos take a long time to set up and I keep running out of time to do them.
What a nice tour. I’m seeing this organ in person on my 23rd birthday
I'll be seeing it on my 54th birthday in a few weeks!

Thank you for another great video on this gorgeous instrument!
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos Chris, and thanks to Heidi for for her help. They are really fun to watch and very educational.
Thanks
I agree
That's my dream pipe organ to play someday! 😊☺️
Same
The crew up here is very accommodating and if you contact them ahead of time you could have a go at it!
@@cnagorkaI'll bring several of my organ hymnals written for organ and a few classical books also written for the organ, and my organ shoes.
I love these videos! Thanks so much for making them! 😄
For some reason this video escaped my notice until today. It’s always a pleasure to watch a new video from you!
Thanks! Hopefully there will be a couple more coming up in May.
Wow! Thanks for making this video!
Chris, we would like to know what's the current condition of the Left and Right Ceiling chambers as of 2023.
Simply put they haven't been touched and are completely unplayable, the wind isn't even connected to them right now.
@@cnagorka still not yet touched? Hopefully they work soon.
@@ThePrasad_Diamond It'll be several years as all of the Gallery divisions will be worked on first.
@@cnagorka you mean, the rest of the Gallery reeds in those chambers too first?
@@ThePrasad_Diamond Yes
Kind of funny to see just rows upon rows of diapasons
Great video and nice camara work as well
I'll let Heidi know, she was afraid the video was going to be too shaky.
Love the 12AU7 shirt! LOVE this spectacular instrument!
It's a 12AX7!!!! How could you make a mistake like that! Just kidding😆😆😆
@@cnagorka I made the mistake because I was too lazy to go to the bookshelf to pull out my 1965 GE "Essential Characteristics" tube manual. 🤓
@@cnagorka the harp doesn't play yet, right?
@@JIMD6370 Correct , it hasn't been gone through yet.
@@cnagorka tnx, I might've asked earlier, just forget.

@@jdcorganist Yes there are switches to turn off each stop action.
These are great. I'm such a novice, a laser pointer would really help me out. Used sparingly, a hand/finger is much better when something's in reach!
The problem is a laser pointer is so pointy! A focused beam flashlight would work better.

How. Many. Pipes?
About five gajillion.
Wonderful! I'd love to know the exact composition of the Grand Cornet...
It's online here, under "rank list": www.boardwalkorgans.org/midmer-losh-info/
@@cnagorka Wonderful, thank you!
I love the dual triode shirt!! 12AX7 or 6SN7??
I count it as 12AX7.
@@cnagorka After I posted, I saw the center tapped filament and knew it wasn't a 6SN7...
I thought the 100” reed hooded and was in the solo?
There is a 100" reed in the Solo but it isn't hooded. The hooded reeds on 100" are in Gallery 1.
you should have Heidi do all your camera work!
