I've bought one in November 2023 , changed the strings with a lighter gauge ; just two complaints: the axlebox that is inside the tuner of the A string , came off from the headstock, and the screw nut that should hold the jack cable inserted, came off too , and the screw thread disappered inside the guitar body. I had to use a thin plyer to pull it up , to be able to insert the screw nut that came off . For 700 euros ( plus 200 for import taxes) an instrument should not have defects like these. By the rest , the neck is perfect, the fretboard has an enjoyable action, and , expecially since i have changed the strings ( 14 / 24 / 38/ 49) , the sound is great . Soon i will add another pick up , among the Blade and the Minibucker. My choice went to a Seymour Duncan mini humbucker. Of course ( but is just my taste) i always connect the tenorbaritone to the compressor, sounds even better . Greetings from Italy, Patrick
This is the best gear demo I've ever seen. Thank you! I just purchased your Eastwood Newport Tenor because this is EFFECTIVE marketing (Don't tell RJ Ronquillo that his Newport demo didn't seal the deal for me). LOLOLOL
There's a 5-string version with a high E that gives you back the rest of a 6-string's upper range. I'm not a guitarist, but I really like the idea of 5 strings evenly spaced across a 6 string-width neck, in pure 5ths, starting with the cello's low C. Drop-C is about the lowest I like when listening to metal, as anything lower sounds muddy on normal scale length guitars. Drop B is my hard limit, but the point is that a 5-string in 5ths gives you all the range from Drop-C up to E-standard, and when put across a 6 string neck, you don't have the "harp" issue of playability that 7-9 string instruments do, AND you also have more space between each string for fingerstyle.
Ellen could you do another video on this with distortion? I’m a cellist and I wanna see what this guy can do before I choose to invest in it. great video :)
@Foocax Go for it! It sounds ridiculously delicious with distortion, fuzz, overdriven, just a bit or flat out. Rolling the tone control back (or even 'off') makes the most of a good amp / pedal set-up, in my experience. As with any new guitar, a luthier's professional touch will make this play like fried gold. This is one guitar I'll never sell...👍
Every time someone pulls out a mandocello I KNOW they're going to launch into Bach as if they just thought of it. For once, just this once, I WANTED to hear it. (Love Bach, but only the first million times.) I play all tenors all the time but I've been thinking of having Steve Wishnevsky make me an acoustic one of these, though of course we won't use the preposterous name "baritone tenor" (which is like calling me an old youngster or a skinny, um, fat guy. That didn't work as well.)
I'd like to hear this in my fav interval on tenor. this would be CGCG. Or "tenor" zouk CGDG I normally have GDAE tuned tenor but in GDGD or GDAD (Irish zouk style)
I play 6 string but I prefer and play my tenor guitar more. I am a Tenor guitar fanatic. I have 4 acoustic tenor guitars and one Eastman electric tenor guitar just like yours.
TIDALWAVE GREAT question! First step is to find a pickup that will work. I would check out pickups made for cigar box guitars (maybe the MGB Box Bucker for rock and metal!) or bass pickups. Then you’d have to take off the pickguard and see what the routing looks like underneath there. I don’t know for sure, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was a big enough cavity to accommodate a lot of different kinds of pickups. I bet Eastwood would help out if you emailed them. Then, finally, you’ll probably have to make the hole in the pickguard a little bigger, depending on what type of pickup you get. If you go through with this, please let us know! We’d love to see and hear it. Shoot us an email any time at info (at) fannyshouseofmusic (dot) com.
You sound amazing, Ellen. But, The strings seem really far apart. I’m just a self taught chord strummer, is this made more for someone that can do more picking than just playing chords ?
We think it’d be great for someone who just plays chords! If you get the chance to try one out in a store (like ours!) you should. We think you’ll find the string spacing makes a lot of sense, given the amount of tension, the fact that the lowest string is pretty thick, and that there’s only four strings. It doesn’t allow for the spread out fingerings of mandolin chords, but it does make open, first position chords sound really great.
@@FannysHouseofMusic It's a limited series too I guess? I was looking to buy a red one... sold out everywhere. Now I can only find maybe 7 total of all colors on reverb, eBay and one other store. I did buy the lake placid blue color though, lol!
3 years later and this is the video that sold me on this. Great review outside of RJ killing it you've showed its versatility.
Dear Ellen, your versatility on the instrument(s) is amazing, Love your demos. Greetings from Germany.
Hendrik Winkels thank you, Hendrik! Glad you enjoy the videos.
I come back here every so often just to watch this video. It makes me smile every time.

Carson Cessna thanks for the kind words, Carson!
Wow, this was very entertaining, also a great demo of the WE Tenor Baritone…
Ellen friggin rules. This damn channel needs WAY more views.
AWESOME review, and you've sold me on getting a tenor baritone!
Beautiful playing! Bravo! I’m definitely going to buy one of these 😮
Your musicality and your enthusiasm are contagious! This was fun to watch. Thanks!
Bob Russell so glad you enjoyed it!

CrashMatt so glad you dig it. Welcome aboard!
You're right! They are really great instruments!!
Late to the party, but my goodness this is beautiful; loved the 'both of em' part
Dude this is an incredible review. That riff you were playing in the beginning was awesome
I love the enthusiasm!!!
I have to say that I think this is my All Time Favorite “Ellen’s Favorite Things”!! Of course, I play bass and ukulele, so I’m biased about 4 strings.
Todd Carlson So glad you enjoyed it! 4 strings 4ever!
I love mine and wish I’d seen this sooner
Love yr review and yr playing

I'd love to try one but using cocteau twins / chameleons style effects...
Rob Rowles that would be rad!

Foocax unfortunately, this guy sold in our store!

Joel D Canfield an excellent point. “Octave” tenor is probably better!
Makes sense. And since I forgot to mention it, you really shred that thing. So much fun to watch.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it.
@@FannysHouseofMusic or single course e-mandocello. Tenor baritone is indeed preposterous

I bought this guitar because of this review
Where else can we hear Ellen play, like in a band context or backing a singer?
Ellen plays guitar for country artist Cam!
I love everything about this review. But then, I’d happily watch you review a toothpick.
Well that is just so nice! There's a video somewhere on our channel of Ellen review a rainstick so pretty close, haha!
Ellen, can that beast be tuned DGBE?
Might need different strings to make that happen!
Hello! Is it possible to tune it in DGBE, i use to play baritone ukulele, tuned this way... I really am interested in your answer! Thanks
Haezaert Pierre would probably need different strings but it's possible!
Where is this shop? I need to buy something there
Beautiful Nashville, TN! Our online store is always open
Great clip! great gat! im gona get a leftie! 😁

Will do! Really curious to try this guitar with distortion and an octave, not sure what will come out of it though..
Fantastisk
Is there a way to put a tremolo bar on this guitar?
GhettoJanitor you could probably do a Bigsby-shaped object and just use the inside four string posts.
Seeing as eastwood did exactly that for the SG tenor... Then why not? :)
Just need a Fez and a Flange pedal.
Sold. 5 out of 5 Bunnies

Yep that’s how this is tuned!
FannysHouseofMusic -Thanks so much! You guys rule!
Can you pls sell me this guitar
We wish we could!
Fender makes a tenor guitar now too. The alternate reality tenor telecaster. 😉
Rob Howe we wish it would have been named "Tenorcaster!"

Add some chorus and you got yourself a mandocello.

Awesome but forgotten instrument.
