Love the pickguard that you have going there. Just got my own Sterling Ray 4 as a first bass that I own myself and love it to death. Can't wait to unleash all the modding potential! You've got me inspired to get to it.
That Aguilar 4M pickup just has great Stingray character. Found the stock pickup in the Ray 4 basically unusable at full volume (on the bass). So I also have the 4M loaded into my own modded Ray 4. Kept the stock preamp because I always like to play with mids flat and treble and bass slightly boosted (on both my bass and amp settings). Works perfectly for me. Also installed the larger brass saddles from a Ray 24 bridge that I bought on eBay. I've heard rumors of an actual complete bridge replacement being available for Ray 4, but I'll take my custom job over it I'm sure. I actually like the larger, thinner plate, because I think it transfers more resonance than the smaller, thicker metal piece on the Rays 24 and up. Same color/materials scheme as yours (my favorite) but kept the black pick guard. Looks, sounds and plays beastly. Definitely my favorite Stingray I've ever played (actually sold a USA MM previously because I really didn't care for it). Thanks for the demo!
I saw a Sterling replacement bridge on Reverb but it's like $160 😮. I've tried plenty of Music Man Stingrays but the Sterling SUB is the most consistent bass Ernie Ball makes. I'm getting another one soon 👍
I have the Audere in my jazz and just love. My recollection is the Audere is a 12db boost cut. So if you're at 0 you're may actually be cutting all those frequencies; center detent should be 0. Still love the sounds you're getting and the 4 band gives you infinite options. Such an underrated pre-amp.
Why did the Bass Sound punchier, when you-initially just added the Aguilar pickup (in the 1st video) ? Was it recorded with a different method? I was so Impressed with the Sound in that 1st video. oNe LovE from NYC
Hello there, primarily a guitar player but have been filling in as a bass player when needed for that I have the early (2015) version of the Sub has just 5 bolts at the back. So far I like everything about the bass. HOWEVER …. The potentiometer volume mainly hose from 0 to 90% right away, what would you suggest? I don’t mind changing to this pickup along worth all the 3 knobs. Please suggest
That bass sounds great, WoW. I like the look of your headset when it come to quality headsets that won't cost you an arm and a leg what do you recommend? Or does it matter?
Those SUB series Sterlings are not bad as is, but they make excellent mod platforms. I've got a 5 string SUB that's a little more difficult because of the pickup shape. Most of the aftermarket pickups that have the same shape have a wider string spacing than the Ray5, so the pole pieces don't line up. You can get custom spacing from Nordstrand, and Delano makes some rail pickups so you wouldn't need to worry about string spacing but those pickups are on the pricey side for a bass I only paid $300-ish for. Mine is still stock other than the flatwounds. D'Addario Chromes ended up sounding pretty cool on that bass. I dig the way yours sounds, even on older strings. It sounds crisp!
@@blee3621 I'm still considering the Nordys for mine. Turns out, you don't even need the custom string spacing from them. The Sub5 has the same string spacing and pickup cover shape as the old OLP's, and Nordstrand has a direct drop in for those. The Barts might be a good option as well. Did you do just the pickup swap, or change the preamp as well? Kind of curious to which will make the bigger difference, pickups, or preamp.
@@bizibetiko9778 I was going to get the Nordstrand with OLP spacing but they were back ordered for several weeks. I just did the pickup and while it’s been a significant change now I’m tempted to do the preamp because it’s limiting.
Hey again! You think getting a sub 24 off the bat is better or just as good as getting the sub 4 and upgrading the pick up to an Aguilar ? Think the sound is the same? The price right now is pretty similar $280 for sub4, $140 for Aguilar pu vs Sterling 24 (yellow) $450
I dropped a Seymour Duncan SMB-4A into my Black SUB Ray4 and it woke it right up, how do you think the 4 Band Audere would react with it? Yours sound great!
Sounds good man. Any way you could maybe turn up a tad next time ? I usually watch the from my phone and sometimes it’s a little though to hear the bass (not your voice though). Great vid !!

Good job Allen. Your page looks great. Keep giving us good content. Wishing you and yours well, peace.
Hey Bully! Sounding good. Just bought me a Gloss finish Black Ray 34 w/roasted maple neck w/Rosewood Fingerboard and a 3 band EQ and I'm Lov'in it.

Ok saw this bk to bk, it looks good. You did Agular, is it any different from the EMG MMHZ pick-ups with EMG BTC controller??

What's up man? huge fan of your videos. Was curious if you've ever set this bass up with a BEAD tuning and how it responds if you have.
Man, if that’s how it sounds with 7 month old strings… 😱🔥
That pickguard
Hi, what kind of pickguard is that? an Original pickguard Ernie Ball Musicman's?
I have a Sterling bass with two humbuckers but I can’t seem to find a neck and bridge combo…can I purchase two of the same pickups?
Idk new strings may be too bright for that at flat settings. It’s a bright bass
Great demo , getting one for my MM 5 .
You are going to need a new bridge too. The string spacing is going to be off
thx for the info.

Usually with Ernie Ball Super Slinky's 45-100
Yes usually regular Slinky’s

How much does this bass weight?
All said and done probably 10 lbs... I never put it on a scale
i cant hear the bass.
Sub Ray 4 useless with original pup, can't understand why they still sell these as is, too muddy, too hot and too clippy.

Yeah,I like the bass but I don’t like the sound of that stock pickup.I really need to swap it.
Bully couldn't hear most of the tones well. Lost in production I guess.
Does not have a MM tone!
How so???
