    Amazing how patient, determined and committed people once were , dedicating so much time and effort to see the deceased off.

      And it makes you wonder what rituals were performed as part of the process.

    We have a small version of this 20 mins from me called Tappoch Broch, but it was built on an older site.

      @@relicsruins there are some small caves behind in and some beech trees that look a couple of centuries old. Also torwood castle and the blue pool are within walking distance

    If I ever fall ass backwards into a Billion dollars, I'll get 6 to 8 enormous slobbering Hound dogs, an obscene Recreational Vehicle and numerous fanciful Druid outfits. Then I'll embark on an epic journey from Megalithic site to Megalithic site. Tally ho all!!!

    Super intersting. Were the passage cairns enclosed/roofed in the past or always open?

      @relicsruins Рік тому +2

      Hi, thanks for watching. I should have mentioned that in the video - they were originally roofed.

      For an idea of what these might have looked like with their roofs still intact, Google 'Newgrange' or 'Bru na Boinne'. This site in Ireland contains some of the best preserved megalithic Passage Tombs in the World.

      Thanks Joel. That is a truly impressive site, thanks for the info. I'm planning a trip to Ireland for next year, so this will definitely be on the itinerary.

      @@relicsruins no problem! I'm surprised it isn't more famous, the entire Boyne Valley is one big necropolis that's covered with burial mounds. They even do a demonstration of what it looks like when the Sun rises on the Winter Solstice and lights up the central chamber. The whole place is truly astonishing, yet it's not nearly as famous as Stonehenge. On the plus side, at least it's not nearly as trampled by the feet of tourists. It needs to last for generations to come
