    I'm from Rome, Italy. When I found out that an American city, on the other side of the world, in such an enormous country like the US, is called Rome I was really and positively astonished!! I said "whaaat? Really?"
    It is very interesting to find out such things! And it lets us understand how Europeans influenced America, even because most of Americans are sons, nephews, ecc...of us Europeans.
    Woww... The statue of the wolf in an American city. Very particular.

    That's a pretty common statue around the world. But I guess small towns don't always like the provocative nature of things like that. Makes people uncomfortable - which is too bad. Glad they finally got over it and put it back up. Hahaha, I like how that bug flew out of the library book pickup when you opened the door, lol

    Thanks for the video and the interesting story John. I served in the USMC down in Albany, Georgia and never heard about Rome before until now. I wish you had posted this posted this 33 years ago! LOL

      Hahaha, guess what? It probably did not change much LOL if you go soon it will be there. We visited in 2004 and I remember it exactly the same, I guess that's what I like about old small towns :) Thanks for your great comment Chuck.

      If you like small towns this is really cool. I like people saying hello to me and really mean it :) This visit was on a Sunday mid morning and almost everything was closed and all the church parking lots were full. Last time we were here was in 2004 and it looks the same.

    All of Georgia always looks so beautiful, never been. Strange how there's really not a lot of people walking around there in front of all the shops. Cool looking town! Tfs!

      It was Sunday morning and everything around there was closed but we visited back in 2004 and it's still the same. Love the small town atmosphere. Thanks for your great comment.

      My great great great great grandfather Joseph Ford was a founding citizen who won his land in the Cherokee land lottery he and all his sons fought for Georgia in the civil 22 Regiment of the Georgia Infantry

    Great video! I visited Rome, GA for the first time just recently and had no idea about the bronze statue, or that it had been sent over by Mussolini. Crazy to think that a piece of metal from the 20th century witnessed such an important part of modern history firsthand.

      Hi Peter, thank you for the kind words. I try to instill to the young ones in our family that History is who we were and who we will become. If we conserve it and learn from it we will prosper but if we keep repeating the mistakes of the past we are doomed. Thank you again and glad we met as well.

    Fascinating history. Rarely see brick when we are in or near earthquake country, so the architecture is interesting to me.

    I had to come check this one out. I have a cousin that lives in Rome, Ga. I've never been there personally. Looks like a quaint little town. Interesting story about how it was started, named and the statue from Italy.

      The town I live in Florida was like Rome Georgia when I moved here in the 80s, 2 police cars LOL. Now it takes me an hour to drive to the gas station to gas up and come home.. we were there on a Sunday morning and almost evething was closed, pretty cool. Your cousin is lucky.

      At 5:36 I mentioned the tower but never knew about the owl, I just look it up. The top of the clock tower is shaped like an owl's face, watching out over the town. Cool! Thanks for that. I like when town folks contribute stories about their town.
