This video justifies the price of a good quality mouthpiece. It's like a jewel, I loved this video, thank you for sharing it with us.
4:10 Sebastian is also reading the fall of Gondolin. Sebastian is pretty cool!
What is amazing about this video is that I was in the All County jazz band sitting next to Jodi my senior year
That's crazy
Fascinating!!! I didn’t realise they test every single one! 😮
I had almost the same exact start to Jay did. I started with a soloist Selmer mp and then my private instructor had me buy a Meyer 5. I still have both original mouthpieces from the sixties.
I never really liked either one but I use them because that's what I was told to do.
I realized about 15 years ago that I needed my own mp with my own best sound. Now my journey is much better.
Yup, 1 size does not fit all...wish I had investigated this 26;yrs ago...
Hi jay, i bought a jody jazz alto HR custom dark 5 last year after watching your try out vid on mouth pieces been using a meyer 5 for 20 years my sound is about the same but i am pleased with the both of them to be honest
I absolutely love my Burnin 7. I have 8 mouthpieces, and the Burnin is my favorite!
❤️❤️❤️
The best mouthpiece is a personal appreciation of the mouthpiece itself. I have multiple mouthpieces and at some point in my life they were the best until I found another that is the best and the cycle continues.
One of your Most interesting videos so far. Thank you so much. Greetings from Germany 👍🎷
Great presentation Jay. Really informative.
I've only been playing for a few months, but I can't wait till I can get my first Jody Jazz mouthpiece!!!
Imagine a better sax burnin metal mouthpiece engraved with fire symbols all over it.. wow..
Good idea actually !
U gotta make it
It's awesome, that u chose to work with Jody jazz. Always felt that they make high end stuff.
1 more reason to believe burning is not a scam 😂
I would like to one day try one of those myself. (Mouthpiece, not scam 😅)
Thank you l learn so much for you
I love the burnin mouthpiece it sounds so good combined with the classic tenor saxophone the sound is so round and evenly in every note better sax is the saxophone comony
Great to hear!
Hi Jay, thanks for this video. Any possibilities to try different type of mouth pieces? If yes, where? I am living in Geneva (CH).
All the Burnin' and JodyJazz mouthpieces are available at Thomann.de, you can order there, check their return policy.
RIP Benny Golson also ☮️🎵🎶🎵🎷
Okay, I’m tempting now 😊
PLEASE review the Selmer Paris Concept mouthpiece for tenor and alto 🙏
Damn, I can't wait for the metal mpc!
Can someone explain why the bore that goes to the neck is not standard?
I can’t go from a Nexus to a Jody without quite a bit of plumbers tape to make up for the difference
This is Jody - This is a great question. It would be great if we could standardize the outside of the neck at the end where the mouthpiece goes including cork thickness, and the inside of the mouthpiece only as far in as you need to be in tune. Please understand the dimensions of the bore of the mouthpiece and the dimensions of the bore of the neck affect how the instrument sounds, feels and plays. So, I don't want to tell any manufacturer how they should make their necks, and I don't want anyone messing with my bores. So, I do my best to understand more or less the industry norm for where to put that final part of the bore to accommodate most necks. We almost never receive complaints about this, so I think we are pretty okay. I think that it's one of the things in the world that doesn't have to be standardized.Putting some tape on the neck is not hurting anything and neither is sanding down a cork. But I completely understand why we would want a standard size. The reason I don't make necks is because I don't want to have to send someone to their repair tech to fit the new neck.
Amazing 😍 video clip. Hunnmm, how can I gets one to improve my tone on the saxophone?
Hi, Jay. I was gifted not too long ago an old Otto Link Tone Master. It has serial number 0014 on the side and a "9" etched in next to the logo. Are you able to tell me anything about it?
I think these are cool! I still swear by Barones and Montgomery’s though.
I play a Jody jazz custom dark😊
At 7:39 in the video (and elsewhere), what is the thick piece on the alto neck, just below the cork? Thanks!
This is an old conn sax. The thing you mean is called a Microtuner, built to make tiny adjustments to the intonation without needing to take off the mouthpiece. Most of them are fixed today, though, due to some issues..
Do you have any suggestions for a tenor saxophone mouthpiece.
Yes, BetterSax Burnin' is my favorite.
I thought you should have included your cool story with the prototypes you mentioned on another video.
Jody sent you three final prototypes for you to test. He had picked his favorite, but didn't tell you, and you picked the SAME ONE! Very cool story for your design process.
I just bought a Vandoren ap3 to play classical and it turned out to be the best jazz mp with a red Java 3 😅is that a blasphemy?!😅
Do what you want lol. It’s all up to you have fun my dude 👍🏻 at the end of the day it’s just equipment. Doesn’t matter as much as you yourself.
5:47 curious, does this affect the sound or feel drastically or is it simply cosmetic preference? I’ve got a hard rubber berg larsen that I got used and it’s completely brown, but I love how it sounds and feels to play.
If you love that mouthpiece, give it some oil to help the hard rubber last longer. With time, old hard rubber mouthpieces can degrade if they aren't taken care of.
I think it's just cosmetic
what about Burnin Bass mouthpieces?
I play jody jazz HR* 7
Walrus Oil…cutting board oil☮️🎵🎶🎷
☮️🎵🎶🎵🎷
I spy a better sax soprano saxophone as well at 9:18.
Damn I'm early
