    I own a copy of this watch for a few weeks now and I can assure you that there’s nothing wrong with it. It reached over 112 hours of power reserve in my first test. The watch was on one side (crown up) in a case. It’s accuracy is excellent about 17 seconds ahead in one week. When examining the watch you wil note that the crown has some play between rotating clockwise and anti clockwise. When adjusting the hands clockwise to the correct time, and then rotate it back just a fraction, it will not jump. I have no problems to adjust it within one second synchronized using my phone. It’s a design choice to keep the crown a bit loose to avoid malfunction and keep it Waterproof. Also the bezel action is excellent, a firm click and good to adjust. My opinion is that some people blame the watch of malfunctioning without actually proving it. They simply bought the watch in a reflex, started doubting and then blame the watch to be defective and bought a totally different watch.

      Hi René, First of all congrats to the purchase, the aquis is a cool watch and I like the overall improvements.
      I am not brand bashing here and I think in terms of power reserve I make it clear that this everytime is hard to judge.
      Under my German video I got couple of comments that the jump of the minute hand is not liked by owners. But no one of them did report issues with the power reserve or accuracy.
      I think this movement has potential. If the minute hand jumps this is though one thing which I just don’t like. I found out that also the AP15400 shows same behaviour. And also some movements from JLC.
      So it’s not a new thing, alright, but than please include it in the description so that you know what to consider when adjusting the time and you’re not a watch guy.
      Again thanks a lot for your feedback, as I said in the beginning, the watch itself is a beauty and I like all its improvements including the quick exchange bracelet, the bigger date and the colours look amazing. Wear it in good health.

      Thanks, it’s a beautiful watch with a lot of presence. You are right that the jump of the minute hand when adjusting it, looks a bit strange, especially for a watch with this price. There is another video from someone who thinks the Aquis in general (not this caliber) is overrated. It’s a somewhat chaotic video from someone how claims the bezel isn’t aligned correctly, the bezel would stuck and the crown wouldn’t be alright. None of these issues are actually proven by that video.

      I have two comments about the watch. The bracelet is excellent and it fits nice on my small (16,5cm) wrist. It’s a pity that the micro adjustment can not be adjusted without a tool (wooden toothpick). Second it’s missed opportunity that Oris doesn’t mention how many windings it takes to wind the watch completely. If you look carefully at the back of the watch while winding, you notice that both barrels are rotating. But they still do after 100 windings. So I am a bit confused how to discover if the watch is fully winded. It also says nothing about its performance in real life, but at least you could check if the watch is fine or not. The Oris boutique in Amsterdam didn’t answer that part of my question.

    • @mb-watches
      @mb-watches  3 роки тому +1

      That’s every time tricky to find out with those watches. A power reserve indicator would have been nice but as it is an automatic movement I think it’s alright.
      In regards of the other video: I did own the oris staghorn and it was flawless, even the day indicator did show a slight sunburst effect of the dial.
      So I habe just good experiences with oris.

    Hello. My new Oris Aquis 400 has stopped (frozen) twice since purchasing 2 months ago. On both occasions I have been wearing it for two days approx and then I noticed it just froze. The last time it happened I wound it manually about 80 times before putting it on the wore it for two days and it froze up on me. Is it faulty?

    • @mb-watches
      @mb-watches  Рік тому

      Well it depends on how you wear it or active you are. For example: you get up, go to work and sit all day at your desk without moving a lot. Well, than it’s hard for the watch to wind. But you have about 9 years of warranty on this watch, use it and give it to the dealer or oris.

      Thanks for your feedback, I as well checked a couple of cal 400 out. Even if it does occur it’s ok with the live hack. What I disliked a bit was the way of communication. Other brands like JlC and AP have similar behaviours in their movements too.

    I think it just shows how difficult it is to develop a new movement from scratch and to resolve all issues. Having a 1st party movement feels more exclusive but it doesn't automatically mean better performance or smoother operation. Even the big names can struggle to get it right. Companies are sometimes criticized if they use a 3rd party movement and ask 3 grand for the watch. Here's a watch that costs 3 grand and exhibits these quirks. In the end, what's better for the customer? Wouldn't you expect it to be flawless for the money?

  • @DonAlex37

    Hello there! Great video! First of all you are not picky at all, more when we are talking of a watch at this price point.. Maybe would accept some errors on a watch that costs 300€, but 10 times the price is unacceptable. I owe the oris aquis clean ocean 400 and I have the same issues. Both of them, minutes hand jumps when set the time and also the power reserve. Unless I wound it well doesn't hold more than 48 hours... If manually wound the watch it holds a decent power reserve but don't arrive at the 120 hours advertised. Really disspointed. I emailed Oris today and in my opinion I gave the watch a decent wear and I tried to know it better see if there is any fix. So I am waiting for their response and hopefully there will be a solution. I will gladly return it and get the Tudor pelagos for the same amount. Cheers!

    Really good point about the average buyer getting this as their first watch/first luxury piece, this is a watch that could very easily entice an early collector for its good value & in-house movement but they might get caught off guard with these "quirks." Hopefully, though this is just a symptom of it being a brand new movement & they roll out improvements to engineer out these issues as well as fixing/replacing the models purchased by early adopters - because the movement shows a lot of potential but a lot will hang on how Oris handles this as to whether this ends up a success or a step back.

    I have the Oris Kermit. the -2 movement update. The watch still has the jumping hand and this probably won't go away soon in my opinion. As for the power reserve, I can confirm the 3.5 days at perfect time, I am gaining +1 to +3 seconds per day when it's fully wound (210 turns per the guide). After those 3.5 days the watch still keeps time fine but the second hand loses 15 or more seconds per day if you don't keep winding. I'd consider those last 1.5 days to be similar to the red area on the bottom of your gasoline gauge, the one telling you that if you don't get gas soon you'll run out and get stuck on the road. All in all the watch is great but there are definitely quirks to this movement.

    It makes me laugh that Oris are running from channel to channel getting reviewers to say that there is nothing wrong with the movement. Well there is . Any movement that needs twiddling around with to simply set the time accurately is badly designed and should have been sorted before being released. And who want extended power reserve when to get it means winding the watch 200 times. You will end up with repetitive strain injury but hey you can always use them.

    The jumping hand phenomenon is a lot more common than people think, particularly with large power reserves, and some Richemont group movements have the same characteristic including JLC & B&M. Check out the same on a B&M at 45 seconds on this video: ua-cam.com/video/P8Mam-Utb-k/v-deo.html
    The way around it has always been the same - go past the time and wind back to take up the slack.
    If Oris do change the movement (personally I don’t think they need to), I wonder if these early “Jumping Jack” hand models will become future collectibles!

    • @mb-watches
      @mb-watches  3 роки тому

      Thanks for your feedback Mark. Yes, the 15400 from AP shows a similar behaviour, I just think that if Oris knows about - what they should and I am pretty sure they do - they just should have put it into the instruction.
      With the 15500 AP did show that they could solve the jumping, so maybe there is a way for Oris too , if not I would appreciate a clear communication.
      The work around there is how i usually adjust the time so yes, you can adjust it correctly if you know

    • @bobpage6597
      @bobpage6597 3 роки тому

      My hand jumps a little too - despite my assertions above it wouldn't, haha! Anyway I have found a couple of things to note. It doesn't jump all the time, and it seems to depend on HOW I set the time. By that I mean pressure applied. I stood in my kitchen 20 minutes playing with the crown before I even wore the watch and found if I used a fair amount of force in releasing the crown or pushing it back in, it jumped fairly often but not always. If I was gentle in both respects - no jumping at all.
      It may annoy some people, but tbh it doesn't actually bother me. When I consider the number of times I'll be setting the time on my watch its not often enough that it'll bug me. I'm as happy with the watch regardless :)

  • @nolinchitnis
    @nolinchitnis 3 роки тому +1

    There are 2 things that make this problem seem worse....1) Not all watches have it. Some have the issue some don't. So when Oris gives a technical explaination that it's due to the double barrel and the need to synchronise, it doesn't cut it. I mean if that's the reason then all watches should have the problem as all have double barrel (watches with new movement). The other point is on one hand Oris is saying it's expected due to the barrel design and then can't explain why all watches don't have the issue. I mean when Oris goes online to explain how watches should be adjusted it just goes against everything people have been doing all these years. A user shouldn't have to go through the skullduggery just because he is getting a 5 day power reserve. They need to sort it out. Period.
