In my opinion, raising a child bilingually demands a perfect mastering of the second language, nearly at the level of speaking one's mother tongue (which Hyunwoo obviously has). Especially, you have to be able to express your feelings adequately in that other language. If you try to do this without being really proficient, you will probably do more harm than good to your child's language capacity, I guess.
Thank you for the video. As a mother of a 22 month old baby son, this video was so helpful. I haven't started speaking English to my son because he's a little bit behide his peers in terms of learning language and he doesn't speak Korean well. I think Korean speaking ability is far important, so I'm focusing on teaching Korean for now. I'm really jealous of Hyunwoo's speaking skills. :) I will keep studying and learn more expressions to teach my son in near future. Thanks a lot, Josh and Hyunwoo.
Jini The lucky girl yea right! He is amazing right? I'm 16 and I should learn faster than him but I only speak Swedish, Finnish and English. And a little bit of Korean, and thats where im struggling
Wow!! Josh~ You're all over the place. GREAT! :-) I am so happy to see you connected with online influencers in English education arena. It was great hearing your tips last time. Way to go!! I'm rooting for you. :-)
Two of my favourite UA-camrs in one video! I feel very spoiled haha. I love seeing all the things that Hyuwoo does quite intuitively with Joon. In the study of Early Childhood Education, there's a name for the attitudes you mentioned - 'learning dispositions'. Alongside the hard skills/content knowledge, all learners develop positive or negative learning dispositions to whatever it is they're doing, and this happens regardless of whether the teachers/parents intend on it (or even are conscious of it!) or not. This could be the disposition to be inquisitive, be confident, be a problem-solver, work independently, work in a team... and so on. I totally agree that these attitudes, these 'dispositions' are vital, because after all, what is the point of developing a skill if you're not going to want to use it? :)
This is great. I'm still learning Korean but I have a 1 1/2 foster daughter that I may get to adopt. I wanted to start introducing Korean now. I need to speak confidently....the words that that I know at least.
I think many parents have no clue what they are doing but most kids turn out to be all right :) Don’t worry too much, just do your best and give your kids lots of love!
