UFC Referee Marc Goddard attacked by fighter

- Ahmed Al Darmaki vs Bogdan Kirilenko on UAE Warriors 12 ended in major controversy as Ahmed who finished his opponent via choke, held the choke for too long and was disqualified. He went after referee Marc Goddard as Marc was looking out for the safety of the fighter and had to forcibly pull Ahmed off of his opponent in order to release the choke.
No one was injured and UAE Warriors handled the situation with the upmost professionalism and Disqualified the fighter on the spot. As the commentary team is heard saying, they do not condone this behavior and control is the first thing martial artist learn in this sport.

@@tolbster. Yeah, fighting is fighting, but it's still in a competitive setting. Part of winning in the sport is knowing the rules having the maturity to control your adrenaline under the lights. imo Ahmed could have reasonably won the fight until around 6:10 - The way his head was kind of buried under Kirilenko's shoulder might explain why he held the choke for too long.

What you are stating is your own perspective on the basis of how to judge greatness. When majority of people, athletes and whoever else it may be, it’s a fact that true greatness is judged based on your performance in said sport. Anything outside of the sport is reflected on you as a human being. In the case of the guy that didn’t let go of the choke, that happened after the fight was over and the reason why he was disqualified. Because he violated rules on when the sport was ruled over. And by no means am I saying you are wrong, nor am I saying your opinion is stupid. All I am saying is that greatness is dependent on your dominance. Jon has won 14 title fights. His last two were bad, as to him “slowing down”. Before that, he’s dominated everyone he fought. Yes, Gustafsson as well. Now if we are talking “greatest sportsman” in fighting, 100000% GSP takes that title. The dude did nothing wrong outside of fighting and is a great ambassador for the sport. Greg Ben that’s facts. I don’t understand what you are claiming tho. If you are saying I’m wrong or right. But that’s very true. You have to be in control of yourself, especially in a competitive scene, because before you do anything competitive, you “lawfully” agree to take things to a higher level of expectation. BUT, that’s why these guys are not in the ufc...Ahmed’s actions costed him the disqualification. Period. There’s nothing more to it than him being unaware of how serious it is to carry on with fighting when the official sport of fighting is called off.

He released 2 seconds after the ref stepped in but the Ref kind of attacked the fighter after he released. That was pretty weird, 2 seconds is longer then normal but there is a delay time.

Wouldn’t let go of the choke after the ref stopped it. Unsportsmanlike conduct, assaults the ref. Disqualification was the right call. That kind of behaviour does not belong in martial arts.

I don’t agree with it but if you look at it from another angle he didn’t even see the guy tap it was on the opposite side that’s why he held on he didn’t tap his body or anything he tapped the mat on the opposite end out of everybody’s view especially in a rear naked choke

Not sure you can be disqualified from a fight that’s already over. But if we are going to just invent rules on the fly, I like that one.
never disobey the ref or physically attack him, first off the ref is there to protect fighters from severe injury, when the ref says stop, you stop, if you can't or won't then you are a real danger of inflicting severe and unnecessary injury to your opponent and that cannot be allowed, in the ring safety is paramount. Secondly, attacking the ref or jostling him because you don't want to concede to his authority or because he has annoyed you, this should get you banned from pro fighting forever, it just means you are undisciplined and untrained and mentally you are not suited to pro fighting so those types of people should not be allowed to take part in the sport
The ref is technically a civilian, so he should press assault charges against that piece of shit. Put him in jail for a long time!
