The best sledge by far was Andrew Flintoff telling Tino Best to "mind the windows" when he was barely hitting the ball. Tino gets rattled, tries to absolutely whack it next ball, misses it, ball goes past, immediate stumping.

Aussies were supreme in sledging! But when Kohli captained India,from the first series in Australia,he gave them back with mouth and bat! Probably Kohli is the most aggressive player on the field,but most humble player off the field.

@@doyourwork1100 No, that was not sledging at all,some vocal banters wasn't called as sledging!Those times,whole Australian team sledged particularly a player, sometimes he gave something back, sometimes being humiliated awfully by Aussies.But, now the Indian players gave it back like a team,look at their body language. If one players from India sledged by any Aussies, the entire team gave them back. This was the main difference, Ganguly, Harbhajan or Zaheer Khan showed agression sometimes,but not the entire team.

Banter doesn't have purposes if opposing team is not understanding.
So no we don't hide behind non-English language. We like to give on the face. We like to give same medicine to Australia which they have been using against other team. Even Australian spectators get involved in banter and abusive words for no reason.

Michael Holding told a story about the West Indies team before stump microphones were a thing. The batsman kept playing at the ball and missing, so the bowler (not sure if it was Holding or someone else) says “what are you playing with? A toothpick?” The batsman replied “I’d have to be playing with a barn door to hit those.”
I see I was beaten to mentioning this. It's a great sledge because it's funny and not just mean/insulting. Really funny.

In older times sledging was more about wit and humour. But there were always words exchanged. Freddie Trueman was exhausted when the West Indies were putting together a huge innings and somehow beat the batsman with two beautiful outswingers.Aftet the second he spoke" and according to the author what he said" cannot be put down in print!" Nowadays it's sometimes a bit too personal at times.Jos Buttler should have been fined.
