Good lord, that's funny. When Norton declares the 'three dollars that was floating by him in the sewer'!!!! I just die. This show, and this cast, were SO funny. One of the best sitcoms ever. There have been great shows since, but Honeymooners is such a classic. They don't call Jackie 'The Great One' for nothin'.
That whole bit from the 19:08 mark to 19:50 when Ralph is reading the penalty for failure to report certain incomes gets me every time I watch it! Hilarious! It's amazing how much some things have NOT changed in nearly 70 years, like the mumbo-jumbo big businesses incorporate into their languages so they can roll over as many people as they can!! I also love the subliminal statement about honesty and integrity during the last couple minutes of this episode - it was surely a different society then!
I am an avid listener of the honeymooners podcast. I recommend it highly to everyone here it’s fantastic. Very interesting point was made on that podcast when they are in the IRS office immediately after Mr. putter says come this way, Mr. Kramden at 22:11 you can clearly hear a sound that sounds an awful lot like errant gas. It definitely sounds like someone let one go. I’ve watched this episode. Probably 500 times and I never heard it. Now I can’t unhear it! Give it a listen.

I don't know about back then since I wasn't born yet but nowadays one time gifts with a value of $25 or less are considered to be de minimus and do not have to be declared. Also, banks and other businesses who pay interest are only required to send out a Form 1099-INT if a customer is paid $10 or more in interest in a tax year. Kudos to Ralph and Ed here for their honesty in wanting to amend their returns to declare these items although it probably wasn't necessary.
l can't imagine getting by with such sparse furnishings in a 2 room apartment: one shelf, an ice box, a stove and a sink. a chest of drawers, a table and three chairs. no TV, no sofa not even a radio. we never get to see the bedroom or bathroom.
There was a TV set in one episode: "TV Or No TV". After some mishaps, they decided to get rid of it (not shown on-screen...likely after the episode ended).
And to think they were having so much trouble with the 1955 tax year "simplified guide". Yes, they still use such verbiage in those books - they help keep tax preparers, attorneys and accountants in business.
The icebox, 'Early Ma & Pa Kettle' - - Norton is a gem! The $0.93 gas bill...what a hoot. Prices have changed a bit since then. Great show. I watched with my parents way back when; it's still terrific after all these years because of the wonderful talent and casting!
The $.93 gas bill even beat the all time low gas bill record set by the Collyer brothers in 1931 (real life relatively wealthy eccentrics that lived in Harlem but were misers and notorious hoarders that arranged their stuff in booby traps to discourage robbers - sadly this was the direct cause of their deaths).

I was introduced to the honeymooners by my dad. I watched it with him on television rebroadcasts when I was a child during my lunch break from school in the early 1990's. My dad was 2 and three years old during the original broadcast. I was born 29 years after the first episode broadcast in 1955.
notice how they have an icebox, not a refrigerator? notice how Norton could be in Ralph's apartment before Ralph gets home and that did not cause a problem?
the Odd Couple used this exact premise in one of their episodes. i wonder if they were ever shown back to back in syndication. Law of averages and probability say yes

Does it sound like Jackie Gleason is saying "God-damn it...", or, something like that around 20:27?... If you listen to it, closely, you'll be able to hear it. My dad recently watched this episode of 'The Honeymooners' on TV & he asked me the same question. We've watched this episode billions of times & never thought about it until now. We also consider it to be the best 'The Honeymooners' episode, but, that's both another story for another day & a matter of opinion, respectively...
No, he's repeating what Norton said (in a sense of impatience): "Tell 'em I was drunk when I made out my income tax.." It's kinda hard to hear because Ralph is saying it to himself, and then the music comes up.
can someone please help me? Norton says he going to Madison Square Garden for the Antique show. this episode 28 Worry Wart was filmed April 7th 1956. Madison Square Garden didnt open until February 11th 1968. 12 years later. how is this possible?
I laugh at Norton deducting 25% of his rent when he uses his apartment for business reasons on account of he practices being a sewer worker in the bathtub. How can you practice that there? Now if he were a plumber I could see that 'cause he could practice unclogging the drain. I doubt though a 25% rent deduction for that reason would fly in 2023, though.
I like Nortons comment to Ralph, " if u could add they wouldn't be investigating u r taxes" Lol

These old sitcoms are one thousand times better than today’s shows and I’m only in my 40’s
I'm 40 and love this show
My 50s and agree
Agree love it
I'm 40 and I love all these classic 50s & 60s tv shows
Did you ever watch three is company?
This really shows the genius acting of JACKIE Gleason! He is DAM GOOD ! Incredible !
I love all these episodes, especially the one " its a dogs life" when Alice gets a puppy
It's a shame though you didn't see the puppy and the other 2 dogs Ralph adopted when he learned they were about to be put to sleep in future episodes.

"I'm not scared of you, if you could count they wouldn't be investigating your taxes" 😂🤣

Are there really people like these 2 on Earth?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Wish we had comedy like this today💝
93 cent gas bill - The Good Old Days
xD
Now 93 dollars
Norton is a bonafide lunatic lol.
Sir.. I'd like to make a confession...During this past fiscal year I found three dollars that were floating by me there in the sewer! LOL
Great writers for these episodes!

And to think ralph was worrying about anything and everything, when all the tax agent needed was his john hancock.
I know this by heart and it still cracks me up
What's this amount here 105 3622 I thought maybe it was your weight classic
Ralph was the only known American to have a seven digit social security number.
They're building a new highway in Tibet. Great line.
“Highways with Tibet…” 😄
When I get through with you there's going to be Piccadilly all over Bensonhurst
Saving $75, interest $2.25 makes the rate of 3% back then.
better rate than in 2023.
“I thought maybe it was your weight” A 9 digit number??? 😂 Funniest line ever!

They never show the bedroom. Lol

@@frozengamer3030 1950’s
@@janetmccoy7945 @Frozen gamer Just as likely, no budget for sets, and Gleason’s infamous proclivity to not give a shit about production.
There IS no bedroom. It's a soundstage....
The Nortens lived above kramdens so the bedroom looks like Nortens bedroom (see sleepwalking episode) probably cheaper looking for sure

When Norton reads in the income tax book. This maybe was 1952 and now in 2021 the language hasn't changed one dot.
1956 or so.
And to think they were having so much trouble with the 1955 tax year "simplified guide". Yes, they still use such verbiage in those books - they help keep tax preparers, attorneys and accountants in business.

The biggest crime in the entertainment industry is that Jackie Gleason never won an Emmy.
My favorite episode, along with TV or Not TV. The whole cast is brilliant.
this and dial j for janitor,oh my aching back and $99000.00 answer
$0.93 for gas sounds great.

Gleason had his place in the show but I always thought Carney made the show.
What??????
Absolutely agree!!
They had great on-screen chemistry!
