Well, as I do every so often, I forgot to add the patrons to the end of this video, so here they are: Cracker, Caleb Young, Jordan Thornton Master Knight DH, Bradley Taylor, James McGill, Joao Alvarño, Samantha Harris, Glebatine the Horrible, Luis Carlos Couto Jr., Exocentric, Hyperstar96, MaskedDragon, Neal Anthony Camerlengo, Luis Esquivel, Dilbus, Richard DS, Alan Mandernoone, Piterpicher, Richard Cutting, pk fire, Evgeniy Serebsryanskiy, Cody Thomas, Víctor Romero, Pedro Jose Bello Belen, Stephenos Bragg, Dreamslayer, The Lonely Galoomba, Gravy Sauce, Jon123, HélioDixy, Pyjamakama, Kevin Hosein, Magnaeri, Jack Skellington, fluff!!
5:48 my best explanation relates to what the manual says: “It was meant to kill him, however something had gone wrong.” It is possible after he found out Caine survived he realised he could weaponise it.
My interpretation of the good ending is that the red ooze is the Director (which he turned himself into after seeing how it benefited the hero and the Director in the boss fight is a robotic clone) and he's simply getting taken into police custody
That game over screen scared me like mad when I was younger, not because of the guy in the back but Caine’s twisted face. I kinda felt the same way about The Mask thinking about it. This game just felt so out of place on Sonic Mega Collection to me. I still remember the nightmares I had because of it. One was of the Ooze eating Sonic and Tails, and another was a FMV cutscene of the Ooze coming out of a dumpster and being surrounded by a swat team, exposing his rotten teeth in a jaw drop.
Oh hey Europe, in America we didn't get the Ooze or Comix Zone, they were removed and replaced with... several covers of the Archie Sonic comic... The only time after the 90's Sally's been in an official Sonic game..
oh my god i played* this game when i was younger and i swear on my life i had the EXACT same "ooze eats sonic and tails" nightmare as a result *tried playing it on the shitty atgames genesis, didnt know what to do, got nothing but game overs, immediately noped out when the lose text showed up because it looked too much like blood and i was like 8
A very Heroic version of Clayface to be exact, only difference he's made entirely out of Gooey Ectoplasm and not Clay. At least he managed to get his payback against the Director and the Standard Evil Corp saving the Globe from destruction.
5:18 If the green ooze is anything like the soft jelly thing from I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (another game with really creepy bad endings), then yeah, forever. It sounds awful.
6:52 I think the implication is that they took the red slime monster into police custody. This is most likely a federal agent. (No ring or creepy smile, just has sunglasses on.) Or the red slime monster is actually the director after being defeated because Caine turned him into another slime monster. I don’t know, honestly.
Glad to see I’m not the only one scared by the game over as a child! Seriously though, despite its creepiness and brutal difficulty, it still is a very fun and creative concept.
Even though the secrets in this game followed a consistent rule, they were still very difficult to find. Funny thing about this game, it plays better with an analog stick. FYI: the consistent rule is you always enter them from above.
Oh yeah, I had both The Ooze and Comix Zone as bonus games on a Sonic Collection game on PS2, I won't say the games were bad, just different, and still interesting to play. Collecting all the DNA samples was a pain, basically, there four in each level + a hidden one and you have to literally look into every corner to find a secret passage to get the fifth. The boss levels don't get any, and I thought you had to perfect the boss or something but no, making the search in every level tedious, and levels get bigger and more labyrinthic every time so the good ending feels more like a congratulations to get a 100%. Also yeah, every complete DNA at the end makes the protagonist more human, first time I played, I had two only so he was half human and half stuck in a puddle, which is somehow creepier, how does his body work??? Also I laughed at the Teletubbies' face.
I got that ending too back then. I was expecting nothing so when I saw only his upper half turn back into human it caught me off guard and freaked me out. I wish someone out there would go though the trouble to get these endings and upload them
Considering the SEGA Technical Institute made this, this was probably a tech demo at first to test the capabilities of controlling “fluid.” Experiments like these are fascinating, although they usually age poorly.
As a kid on the PS2 Sonic mega collection, the mere title art of this game spooked me enough to where I never got to playing it. The first stage's theme has been a bop for me in the past few years, and I always wondered if you'd get to covering this game, and I'm glad to finally see an episode for it.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS! This game had the biggest impact on me and I've been waiting for this video since I was a kid! Edit: The ending makes no sense, It's never explained who or what the red ooze is. The best theory that I can come up with is that the red ooze is the director and the final boss is a robot clone of himself but that still doesn't explain who the man in the background is. There was clearly more to the story but the game was rushed out the door which leaves all of these things unanswered.
right, being a very late sega genesis game just to push out the door to retail stores before the sega saturn and playstation releases, makes it plausible as to why alot of stuff makes no sense near the end.
This game always scared me, level 1’s music unsettled me, and the death scene if fucking unsettling, does help I played it on the Atgames console so the audio was even freakier
This was the only game on Sonic Mega Collection that I didn’t play much. After dying 1 time I decided not to play it again and switch to Ristar due to me being terrified of how everything looked and sounded.
Whoisthisgit puts so much effort into his videos. I love watching these labors of love,to like talk about things that give us nightmares or things we never thought would give us nightmares. It's been an incredible journey to watch.
I find curious that this game was featured in the JPN release of Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube... along with Comix Zone... and both games needs a cheat code to be unlocked, the plus versions that got released later on Xbox, Ps2 and PC used the JPN GCN version as the base and added the bonus games from Sonic Adventure DX from Gamecube.
I remembered playing this on a Jakks Pacific Plug-N-Play machine in my youth; I tried very hard to make it through the toxic waste dump without losing my Bio-Mass/ Health, but it was difficult with the buzzing pylon thingies and the NBC Hazmat Suit Guys with Flamethrowers, and the Rats; only one time did I ever manage to reach the boss, some sort of giant lizard or frog thing that poked it's head out of one of a number of pipes I had to pass through, and I could never beat it, because I never picked up on how to beat it. That was about a decade and a half ago, when I was still a teenager. Ahh; the memories! The stressful, neurotic, yet oddly engaging memories!
The Director's face in the game over makes me think of a Disturbed album cover Also points for the Nightmare Creatures music, I see you are a man of culture as well
He could definitely Have him back as The Ooze (whether it be by force or some ability he acquired after regaining his humanity) but with the ability to switch between puddle and humanoid form.
Mr. Git, I applaud you for continuously uploading awesome content since the 2000s and your format hasn't changed a bit. Some may hate on this but to me your format was great from the beginning. Keep it up.
Of all the things I remember, it's the game over. It scared me shitless when I first saw it. Also the intro reminds me of the comic strip pause menu from Bully.
I have this game on the Genesis Handheld thing. It's a metric fuck ton darker because they put the music in minor and sped it up a little. I thought it was the only game where they didn't mess with the music, but I was wrong. However, this is the only time such a change was warranted because the original version sounds like heroin.
This was one of those games/things that actually gave me nightmares, the story of a guy turning into goo was terrifying and the game over screen, oh god the game over screen, i think i was like seven when i played it on playstation 2, we had the sega mega collection +, and my brother and i had to try every single game, and this game, had me sleeping with my parents for the next two weeks because it scared so much
I still stand by what I say that if whoisthisgit or lublub does Kirby Mass Attack game over, it would be perfect for a Creepy bad ending. Most Kirby games have a game over screen that is not too dire, but that one might get under his or her skin. I imagine that whoisthisgit or lublub would have always thought Kirby were happy games, but Mass Attack might freak him or her out.
Hey how bout making a (gonna take some time of yours) video of way of the samurai 3 endings? I'm not sure if it has any creepy or bad for player but i heard that game has more than 20 endings. I have it myself to play later but honestly I'm not sure if I can get all 28 endings lol. Maybe it's worth making a video about. I love your dead rising videos keep the good work up 👍
This game literally scared the crap out of me as a kid... The year was 2012, I was playing Sonic Mega Collection Plus on the Original Xbox that my dad got from one of his friends at workplace and I was having a fun time... Meanwhile When I was playing Knuckles in Sonic 2, my mother calls me to take a bath for school then I come back to see that I unlocked a new game, and of course, being an autistic eight year old who learned how to speak in 2014 called it "The Ooze-ie" I start playing it... I was not a happy kid when I went to bed. And then whenever My family played Sonic Mega Collection Plus, they would hold on The Ooze on the game selection just to mess with me, then I threw the disc away because The Ooze did too much damage to me, but The Ooze followed me though store with those shitty ATgames Sega Genesis consoles. Then in December of 2016, I got one of those shitty ATgames consoles. And I would hide when they turned it on. Meanwhile in early 2018, I finally had the courage in me to look at a Longplay and now I think it's a pretty good game, but really hard.
I knew this game was related to Comix Zone. The soundtrack is two degrees off from its brother's. This game's final fight would have been a completely different beast if it was The Kingpin instead. Especially if it was the Roscoe Lee Browne or Michale Clarke Duncan incarnations.

I think everyone's overthinking the red ooze shot, I see it as a government agency taking care of the Red Ooze, since the guy clearly has sunglasses
I agree with this. What is being seen is likely a government agent.
That game over screen scared me like mad when I was younger, not because of the guy in the back but Caine’s twisted face. I kinda felt the same way about The Mask thinking about it. The fmv bit is actually possible on real hardware in theory, rise of the robots has multiple fmvs. So I don’t see why that would be unrealistic
Oh hey Europe, in America we didn't get the Ooze or Comix Zone, they were removed and replaced with... several covers of the Archie Sonic comic...

So even in the true ending he's stuck as a green human with the hinting power to mold and shape shift like clayface oh well
A very Heroic version of Clayface to be exact, only difference he's made entirely out of
Gooey Ectoplasm and not Clay.
At least he managed to get his payback against the Director and the Standard Evil Corp
saving the Globe from destruction.
The game over screen in this game traumatised the hell out of me as a wee lad.
Made me exit the game on the mega collection whenever I died.
5:18 If the green ooze is anything like the soft jelly thing from I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (another game with really creepy bad endings), then yeah, forever. It sounds awful.
A CBE of IHNMAIMS would be amazing

Or the red slime monster is actually the director after being defeated because Caine turned him into another slime monster. I don’t know, honestly.
I could see The Ooze being a comic book character, honestly.
Glad to see I’m not the only one scared by the game over as a child!
Seriously though, despite its creepiness and brutal difficulty, it still is a very fun and creative concept.
Damn, green Dr. Caine is ripped.
Ya if he collect all DNA Hexs.
It's DNA Helixes, not DNA hexes.
I'm gonna be honest I find the intro and premise of the game even more terrifying than the game over screen.
Honestly same
When I saw the Game Over, I said:
"Turned into a lava lamp. What an embarrasing way to go."
Even though the secrets in this game followed a consistent rule, they were still very difficult to find. Funny thing about this game, it plays better with an analog stick.
FYI: the consistent rule is you always enter them from above.
That game is hard as balls, but the goo-like physics look so cool.
Oh yeah, I had both The Ooze and Comix Zone as bonus games on a Sonic Collection game on PS2, I won't say the games were bad, just different, and still interesting to play.

Same. Never did beat The Ooze but Comix Zone was one I played a bit more though neither was engaging as Ristar.

The game looks so interesting, so it’s a shame that it’s kind of disappointing. Sounds like a remake could be cool if that were possible.
Yeah. If the game had its own save feature and had less confusing puzzles and navigation, it could have been a hidden gem of the late Genesis era.
These kind of games need remakes… make it a 3d immersive sim where you need to evolve powers and the goo is simulated in real time.
I think Carrion has a pretty similar concept and does it fairly well, I wonder if it was inspured by The Ooze

I was just about to request this game after I watched your Comix Zone video from a few years ago, but you already beat me to the punch! 😂
Dr caine is quite ripped for a scientist
Dr Caine needs to come back. Sega should make a crossover fighting game and put. him. in it!
Maybe they could make a Fighters Megamix 2.
I had my heart set on calling it Sega DreamClash.
He could definitely Have him back as The Ooze (whether it be by force or some ability he acquired after regaining his humanity) but with the ability to switch between puddle and humanoid form.
I'd like him to be in humanoid form by default and shift into puddle form when he crouches and slides along the ground.

sonic mega collection plus.
had literally just looked at a "The Ooze" gameplay video before seeing this in my recommended lol.
