I am a first-time viewer and I just subscribed to your channel!!! So glad I found your channel!!! There is no shame in this game girl; all you can do is keep chipping away at it as much as time. weather and energy allow!!!
We live in Jacksonville, FL and the heat is scorching at times!!! I have an old hog pin that was a chicken pin before it was a hog pin; I know it has to have some wonderful soil in there; we also had over 100 trees removed from our property back in the 80's; the limbs from those trees were shredded into that same pin!!! My goal is to turn it into a new garden spot; I know it's going to be a lot of hard back-breaking work, it's got several volunteer trees growing in it that we have to remove as well!!! We all need to cheer one another on in this thing called life, and grow our own food!!!

@@crickettjd thank you and Welcome to my channel! Yep, you're right, we all benefit from cheering each other on and it does boost my energy and enthusiasm knowing there's emotional support here. I would definitely say you will have some golden soil when you're ready to plant a garden. Those animals contribute in more ways than one. We cut just over 180 trees, ourselves, mostly large pines back in 2019 just to clear a small area for our goats. We did have to hire a stump grinder however and it's a beautiful lot now. That was alot of hard work. Slow and steady is the correct way to get things done but sometimes my heart and head want to go faster than my body can go. I wish you lots of success getting your garden and clearing done! Share with me your progress. We started from scratch basically here from an abandoned, overgrown property of very little 13 yrs ago. I know the work involved!

@@kanddshomestead2839 Thanks so much!!! We had a pulp wooder take our trees out, but all the limbs were left for us to deal with; that was a long hard job, but we got it done, we had a stump grinder do our stumps too! Looking forward to see what's next!

Slow & steady is the way to go. I understand completely what a huge project you are taking on alone and if I was your neighbor Id surely come by to lend a hand. It was only a few years ago that I purchased a property next to mine which had an abandoned house on it, had it torn down, then slow & steady, shovel by shovel, all alone, I cleaned up the mess and have managed to create beautiful garden beds as well as two small patios with places to sit and rest. And, by the way, I also deal with a bad knee & ankle so I too have those times when I just cant do much, but I do what I can, when I can. Lay that cardboard inside of that raised bed right away to start cooking those weed seeds while you continue cleaning other areas. Can I ask why you have put down all of that ground fabric? In my personal opinion, I would have cleared those areas then laid down a thick layer of mulch because you will be forever weeding what grows on top of the fabric and then trying to pull the fabric up once it starts to deteriorate. Just my opinion. Keep on gardening!

@deechiodo6738 yep, slow and steady is the only option these days for me, doing what I can when I can. I was very fast-paced at everything I did, always, until last year when physical issues brought me to a screeching halt, almost. I broke both sides of my left ankle in 2016 which left me with 2 pieces of titanium on each side and 8 screws holding it all together and it also growls at me on occasion, besides the knees problems. I'm taking my time these days. About the fabric... I put it down about 5 yrs ago and kept it maintained perfectly until last summer when things spiraled for me. It actually has been less maintenance than other things I've done in that spot. Before the fabric and raised beds, it was a tilled garden. It's just going to take time to get it all caught up and in good maintenance shape. It's my fault it got overgrown and weedy. Sounds like the work you did has paid off on that property you purchased and sounds beautiful. I would love to see pics of it. Thank you for the neighbor comment. It's very kind of you to have been willing to help. I've almost got all the soil up now, so no worries about the weeds in the boxes, but that actually was a great idea! Thanks for watching and I hope you stick around for more videos!
