My experience and most orchid growers and article from American Orchid society is when roots grow in water ie semi hydroponics and then you pot up in regular media, those roots will die and the plant will have to make new roots appropriate to the media. Orchids can go from bark easier to sphagnum moss. That isn’t the case going from moss to bark and plants will suffer until the old roots die off and new ones are grown. Most likely plants can go from water to moss easier to because moss is highly moisture retentive. You let moss potted plants almost dry out (light green to almost silver color before watering again. Personally, I don’t like letting plants sit in water nor in stale heavy moss. You set yourself ie your plant up for fungus issues and water molds. He is constantly having to cut off the roots as they rot and new ones are made to accommodate hydroponic situation.
Orchids are naturally grown in their native jungles etc on trees with no media at all and they get watered from heavy dews overnight and potential daily rainstorms and then they dry out completely during the day. This said, if it works for him and the roots don’t die off when repotted in bark etc - well that’s good. Everyone’s environment is different and you have to go with what works for you. I just caution beginners to realize the potential for loss of a beloved plant. I find it best to stick with what the plant has been growing in for years but if the plant is suffering %- then repot in a clean, new pot in the same type of media. If there are no roots at all on a phalaenopsis, then you you have a battle on your hands, because they have no water storage capacity like a Cattleya or dendrobian has. In this case, you might have to resort to hanging a plant over a small amount of water, ie two sticks stuck through a plastic cup and the plant just resting close to but not in the water with a humidity retention device, dome etc to keep it from drying out. I like to put stones in the cup to weight and stabilize it. Burn holes in the plastic cup with a wood burning tool to run the bamboo, chopsticks even straws through to hold the plant. By keeping the roots out of the water once they start growing, it can help when getting ready to repot. I would change the water every other day so no fungus, molds, algae, etc grow. Use a rooting agent like Hormex root booster (check the Hormex website, their products have been used by professionals for decades and decades) once you have roots or do a foliar spray. Their liquid supplement that you mix with water as directed can be used every watering particularly in the spring and summer. The dosage is lighter for frequent use. But in the winter, I only use when fertilizing which is only when the sunshine is out. There are other products. I find soaking the entire plant for a couple of hours each day for 2-3 days in KelpMax (now Kelpak??) sold by First Rays (located NC) Afterwards, only use once a month to keep roots growing and healthy. Again, if no roots, you will need to soak or spray the entire plant ie foliar feeding. Quantum (probiotic type) is another help with roots and the plant. I only use Quantum in the summer when my plants are outside as it’s a bit stinky. I keep these types of products in my frig to help them stay fresh as long as possible.

Nowadays on UA-cam, there are a lots of fake news trying to show ridiculous ways to grow plants. This guy shows rooting orchids with either ginger root and now onion and probably a few more methods that I have not had time to check. The clip looks real enough. I only buy orchids occasionally to celebrate new year and not really successfully revive any orchid for a couple years. Your explains are truly educational to me. I hope viewer will see this clip here with caution so as not to loose any value plant. Maybe this clip works ????!!!

У них в стране влажность 100%и много света, для орхидей это рай...Поэтому всё растёт как на дрожжах...
Во время цветения,не желательно, может сбросить цветы
Здравствуйте, я поливаю цветущие орхи, через раз. Калиевая селитра 0,5 г на 1л воды. Цветы не скидывает, пробуждает боковые почки. Попробуйте на одной. Удачи!

Во время цветения можно использовать рисовую воду. Замачиваете рис на 30 мин. Потом воду сливаете в баночку и этой водой поливаете растение. Зерна варите кашу (себе). Можно перемолоть в муку (1 ч л ) залить 100г воды и добавить в полив. Цветы попрут большие и может даже выпустить ещё одну ветку с цветами.
