Thank so much especially on a cold night like tonight when the heater refused to start up. Went to the shed, got some sand paper and followed instructions, took a bit longer than yours did but eventually it worked and everyone is happy, thanks & God Bless🙏🙏🙏

Does the body of the thermocouple need to be touching the metal body?

I've got the same one. But mine switches off after a couple of hours and won't switch on again. Its pretty frustrating.

If its brand new and still warranty I would take it back to the store. However if you mean that's its fairly new but was packed away last winter and outside of warranty then follow the steps in the video.
