    When John Whitaker hit his horse it made me so mad. Honestly if you feel the need to hit your horse because you messed up then you shouldn't be riding.

      LITTERSLY and it was an accident. He was just angry that he didn’t win so he took it out on his horse. Pathetic.

      If he was prepared to punish the horse like that in public what do his horses go through at home.

    1:14:39 this really upsets me. The horse made a mistake so in turn he beat him with the crop for something that was likely his mistake not the horses. He was just angry so he took it out on his horse. Not ok.

    John Whittaker's horse was backed up and refusing to forward off his legs. You can see Whitaker's leg moving, asking the horse to move forward, but it was behind the leg and not responding. When a horse is so backed up it is moving sideways instead of forward off the leg, there is a risk the horse might stand up. He needed to reestablish forward so he could get it back in front of his leg. His use of the riding crop in that moment was, in my profession opinion, appropriate.

    God... And I rode in a handful of 3'9"-4'3" & a 4'-4-6" jumper classes to help prep for the show jumping portion of what was going to be my first ever long format CCI1* 3 day event when I was 14 on my little 15h Anglo arab/Paint gelding and I thought THAT WAS TERRIFYING?!?!!!!

      @E.playsrblx No. You most definitely are not. He hit that horse quite a bit after his refusal. No way whatsoever that that horse would associate those hits with the refusal. He was just hitting that horse out of frustration/anger.

      @@philsteynb No, it should be reported to the British Horse Society (or similar federation, pending the rider's nationality). It can also be reported to the FEI. Police won't do anything regarding equine welfare at horse shows.

    The way John Whitaker hit his gorgeous horse with the crop made me kind of sad. I understand the use of crops to reprimand a refusal, and ride with one myself, but it just seemed a bit excessive. :(

    • @katehickcox5048
      @katehickcox5048 5 років тому +5

      Yes. He hit the horse many, many seconds after the refusal so the poor horse won't even associate being hit with having refused a fence. He also hit the horse three times. When last I turned around, FEI rules only allow hitting a horse twice for a refusal.

    • @ANNEKE1999
      @ANNEKE1999 4 роки тому +1

      You shouldn't hit the horse one way or another. Horse skin is much thinner than people thought. Think about it: Horses can feel a fly on their fur. So what do you think does a hit with a goddamn crop?

    • @landofsweet101
      @landofsweet101 4 роки тому +1

      True but when you are pressed for time to get over the jump you dont tend to think about it as much but I agree. Though you dont want a horse getting into a bad habit especially at that level

    • @landofsweet101
      @landofsweet101 4 роки тому +1

      @@moonsmilk333 true but sadly like most rules in any discipline you see horses in most rules get broken. It's sad yes, but then you could go on to say using figure 8 bridles and double reins and spurs and crops and all that stuff could be considered as abusive and shouldn't even be used. But they do. Yes I did hunter/jumpers with my horse but I know that honestly we really shouldn't have any sports with horses that include any awards like winning money, or a ribbon because so many will cut corners just to get those things and sadly much at the cost of many horses and their health.

    Not only did John Witaker sit on the horse like a sack of potatoes most of his round. Him hitting his horse for a mistake that both rider and horse caused was ugly to watch. He may be "experienced", but clearly his best days were behind him even 5 years ago if this is how he treats "mistakes".
