MAF is now known as Mouse air flow. I had a similar problem on my Chevy g20 van when mice made a nest in the air cleaner housing. I learned to put metal screening at the opening of the intakes especially on any vehicles that sit for long periods of time during the winter.
Ivan, now stop it! Not only do you have ALL the diagnostic skills - can fix anything - can speak fluent Russian, but you also have a lovely and beautiful wife. She has IT! You are one lucky man, Ivan. I envy you. I'm sure I speak for the masses. Really enjoyed this video - your wife is the reason. Ms. Amanda made this vlog. Thanks Ivan.
Mr. Wolf shows up, and shows them how to clean up the mess they made. Don't know what we would've done without him. Of course those two guys have the IQ of rock salt
That's a great reference. We need to start calling Keith Mr. Wolf. I met Keith in Chicago at Automechanika and he's the real deal. Don't know about the Kangoo hats he always wears but that man is truly dedicated to the trade. Not only is he razor sharp he's funny as hell too.
Ivan, you did use one part the Air filter, But I noticed that Amanda's dog was clawing at the passenger seat.. it may be nothing, but there may be another mouse inside the car's compartment.. I'd keep an eye out for any signs of a mouse. Under or inside the seat!
I have the telecomm version of Keith on speed dial, my boss. Dude moved into field management from being a tech, but he is absolutely the most knowledgeable guy I've ever worked with or for. Having someone like that you can lean on is one of the best things ever.
What an entertaining clip!! My wife watches the car videos with me and thought this was the best with you and your wife working on the car together! 4 thumbs up!!!!👍
@@PandaMan02 Yes, I had a mouse that built a home in my glove compartment in one day. Luckily I had napkins in there to make a nest so he didn't rip apart my checkbook. I put a glue trap on the floor with some peanut butter in the middle and caught him in an hour.
@@William1866 I have had several mice incidents in my various cars over the years. I've tried glue traps and everything to varying degrees if success. The easiest and cleanest way to deal with a suspected rodent is to set a regular ordinary spring loaded trap inside a McDonald's quarter pounder box with one bite left in it. Don't even bother baiting the trap itself, there is no need. Place that inside the sack and then on the passenger floor board or seat over night. When thr trap springs, it will open the quarter pounder box so you don't have to, because the rodent would have chewed a small hole in it to get in and then be confined, it almost always gets them, and because it is already in a container inside a bag, it is already in an easily disposed of no touch bag. Just look for holes in it to see if the mouse went after it.

I was looking at some of your older videos and this is the first one I’ve seen with your wife in it, what a happy and pleasant woman! You both married well!
THAT was amazing! I've seen nests, but not like that one! Showing your wife how to operate the diagnostic tool AND having her utilize it.......PRICELESS!

My dad had a ‘90 Oldsmobile that wouldn’t start one morning. He removed the air cleaner top and the entire area around the air filter element was full of acorns, he had driven the car the day before.
it was likely all there long term and very plugged with vibration breaking it down into powder, which then with very high humidity or moisture from driving in rain/highway mist wetting made it solidify when dried overnight. been there done that! lol
Wow, when I first started watching, I thought a rodent chewed the wiring. Never imagined a rodent went in the air intake, through the air filter and the MAF. Thanks for the video. Learn something new everyday.
Dude, you got an amazing lady who hasn’t questioned when the regular maintenance was last performed. Both of you were sympathetic to the loss of life, a great couple!

Really great especially with the personal touch as this issue happened right at home! Nothing better than seeing this sort of thing happening to your own cars. Shows no one is immune to issues.

Hit the local hardware store and get some 1/4" mesh chicken wire. Make a piece to cover the intake area. If you're really paranoid add a second piece over the front of the filter. I've had to do that on a couple vehicles to keep critters out.
Yup.... the original owner of my '77 C10 told me the reason for the chicken wire over the air filter snorkel inlet... He tried to start it one day and it ran rough and rich... he checked the air filter and it was packed with acorns.
My wife's Dart has 242K miles now: i have changed the starter solenoid, the water pump and two left front wheel bearings. That is it for failed parts. I have also done brake pads twice, tires three times, the accessory drive belt twice, spark splugs three times, and the cabin air filter a couple times and more than a few light bulbs. We have done Mobil1 oil changes with Wix synthetic high mile filters every 10K. Transmission and engine are still excellent. Every function still works as new too, and it is a 2014 Limited.

Amanda and you make a good team. Mice, squirrels, and other rodents can really trash a car but most of the time we don't think about that as a cause to our troubles. Thanks for the good video.
Amanda is too cool. She should be on the channel more often.
and a great job explaining it.
Or we could have her do the repair videos while he holds the dog. ;)
To say that Ivan has a keeper is the understatement of all time but he knows that. Now we do too.
Hopefully not 😂
She should get together with Mrs O.
Rodents strike again! Maybe she should just ride the horses when you're out of town. Much more reliable!
haha that's a good plan! That's why the Amish stick to horse and buggy :)
