    I love receiving hardcover copies from Book of the Month. I do the monthly subscription which is $16.99 and all of the books are hardcover. I love that I can get new releases before they hit the shelves, and an “add -on” book is only ever $10, so I honestly feel it is such a great deal for hard cover book copies.

    I just finished this book and I was amazed of the ending. Throughout the book, I thought the anonymous was Jack he seemed to know about the berries, the magnet, and having the survival supplies. The shorter hair and hair cut and wearing the baseball cap in chapter 21 made me believe it was a boy. When it was revealed who it was, it surprised me. They turned on Claire because they felt once again disappointed.

    Wasn’t it obvious when Claire remarked how Lindsey’s corpse was still warm? 😂

    Yeah, it was a little underwhelming. At times I felt hooked- but overall the writing was super repetitive. Still, it was a fun and easy read!

      Fun and easy for sure! I just finished The Inmate by same author and loved it! Have you read it?

    Great review! I remember reading this one a year ago when I was on some pain medication, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I'm thinking the pain meds contributed greatly to that 😂 cuz your review is spot on.

    I totally agree with you! It's my least favorite of hers. Her books are easy to binge but the plot twists are just not believable.

    The whole thing about her son and the wolves I didn't really mind since it only takes up a few sentences. If it had been a bigger part of the story maybe I'd been questioning it. But also I think it was more about how young children typically get fascinated with animals and want to learn all sorts of basic facts that adults may know but are new to children.
    Leaving the body is a plot contrivance, but for the situation they found themselves in (based on the thinking she was dead) I don't know what one is to expect. They forage on carrying the corpse? Stick it in the dead car? I don't know, I didn't mind it. I read it as more of a setup for a setting where you lose a bit of your humanity in order to do what you need to do to survive.
    I do appreciate your perspective though, it gave me things to think about. I do wonder though how you dislike so much about this book, but enjoyed never lie, which speaking about repetitiveness, a character's constant reminders about their love of cashmere are all over. And its twist only works if we accept that the first 2/3rds of the book effectively lied to the reader about one of the characters.

      Its on the way, I guess since I am only just getting into adult reading so some may view me as a casual but I enjoy McFadden more than most experienced readers, particularly book UA-cam haha

      commenting again to say I finished it...Boy that last act looked like it was getting somewhere, and then pulls the rug on itself in the last few chapters. But I still had fun.

    i search a review of this book to jus see if anyone thought this was as ridiculous as i did lol this my third book of hers.. the first i read was Perfect Son which i really enjoyed ..
    so decided try another which was Perfect Lie and i was like eh, but still liked the thriller vibe, but THIS was ridiculous lol i literally said to my bf at the end “i feel like i just finished a bad lifetime movie” 😂 that seems to be a theme of hers.. she gives these anonymous backgrounds and hints int he current story to make u think one way, and the twist is like RIDICULOUSLY unrelated lol it worked for The Perfect Son for me

      This made me LOL! I feel the same about the plots and things being outrageous! The books I've enjoyed are The Housemaid's Secret and The Inmate. The others have been misses for me

    This was one of the worst books I ever read. The premise was ridiculous, the dialogue was horrible, the twist was stupid. I figured it out right away and this book took a lot of liberties... Best thing about the book was I read it so quickly so the pain was over fairly fast.

      @HeathersBookReview  4 місяці тому

      Lmao 🤣🤣 agreed on a lot of what you said! Not sure if you’ve read anything else from this author but if not, I’d recommend staying away because her dialogue really doesn’t improve in any of her books… 🫠
