    Real spring rolls are made with rice wrappers. These are basically small egg rolls since they are made with wheat flour.

    Hey Mr. Wolfe, I too, just found your videos on Dollar Tree reviews and love your honesty. Two things I'll comment on with the Jennifer's Garden Spring Rolls is that, 1) they're made in China, and 2) if you make them in the microwave, the crust browns and gets crunchy, which I thought was odd, because it doesn't use a browning type paperboard to do so. I thought they were tasty, as well, but these two points I thought were important you missed. Great channel!

    The spring rolls are good and handy for a quick snack. I found that they come out better if you put them in a cold toaster oven and then set the temperature for 400F for about 14 minutes. The upper element in the oven comes on while preheating and browns them more evenly.

    Usually when I eat something like this, and I do when I want something quick, I add other things to it. For example when I eat Banquet Sweet and Sour Chicken I add a couple of chicken tenders cut up in bite size pieces and add some La Choy sweet and sour sauce. Turns a small cheap bite into a more satisfying meal.

    One thing I've noticed is foods that have any vitamin content at all (any dang vitameenie!) tend to score higher. I know enough to know some vitamins are affected by cooking, but the idea that retaining vitamin content might indicate a better food product is interesting.
    What do you and the viewers think? Do we like our nutrients?

    I just ran across something new in my local DT, that you might find a bit better than the "Yu Sing" travesty. It's "Su Ming" brand General Tso's Chicken and Orange Chicken. Each one is 7 oz. of breaded chicken, though I found most of it was breading, save for a few larger pieces of what appeared to be real, breast-meat chicken, though with additives (water, seasoning, etc.). I"ve had the Tso's and loved the sauce -- it was nicely sweet, savory, and spicy, all at once, and there was a generous helping of it. I think a box of the Su Ming would go great over a bed of rice.

    Hi Larry! Have you tried Margaret Holmes' Seasoned Field Peas & Snaps? Best thing I've ever found at the Dollar Tree, I must recommend you try them for a video! You can also find them at Walmart if you're lucky. Thanks for the great content! You may make videos so we, the people, don't have to try the same food, but I have really poor impulse control and ended up buying canned Hormel Tamales. Haven't tried them yet, I'll wait until winter when snow inevitably shuts the trains down, as it always does in Boston!

      It's the ingredients that make them spring rolls regardless of the wrapping. Egg rolls usually just means that they contain some kind of meat. Even then it can get mixed up because many Vietnamese spring rolls also contain meat. You forget, that's what we call them in English, in China and Vietnam they have their own names for it.

    • @Creecherfromtheblacklagoon
      @Creecherfromtheblacklagoon 7 років тому +13

      Nate Schwarts nah, fried ones can also be called spring rolls, clear ones are rice paper and are either called spring rolls or summer rolls. Egg rolls are specifically made with egg wrappers, that's what makes them egg rolls.

      In Canada spring rolls are like those in the video. Rolled up round thin pastry filled with various fillings, but mostly veggies. They are deep fried. Egg roils are larger and more oblong in shape. They are pastry filled with various ingredients and folded over once rather than rolled. The ingredients can vary but mostly bean sprouts and other veggies. They can be deep fried or baked. Spring rolls here tend to be a lot more greasy than egg rolls.

    This is why I barely go by the dollar store because the frozen foods you get there don't taste that good. I mean if you want something to eat really badly and you don't have much money than the Dollar tree is for you, but if you're like me and want to get better frozen foods I recommend going to either Wal-Mart or Krogers.

We would cook them in a microwave oven (my favorite kitchen cooker) and jazz up some soy sauce with other spices and go to town. LOL THE ASIAN FONT ON THE BOX

    • @JonasRosenven
      @JonasRosenven 7 років тому +9

      Asia, just like Persia is a mysterious wonderland for anyone living outside that particular geographical region. The font is a clever and effective way for manufacturers to introduce their foreign and wonderful meals to people who can't afford to travel to the far east. In many ways, especially considering the ingredients, these meals work like standard fly trap does. Only a lot slower.

      I've been wondering what the typeface was, because I see it used in ways I often feel are kind of kitschy and... well, I am not sure this was even intended to be an Asian style font. The creator, Genevieve Cerasoli, was going for a lively, unpredictable calligraphic look, and she certainly knocked that right out of the park. It's fun, but... the way it's used here bugs me a bit for some reason. Not really sure why.
      So, I was too curious not to grab a screen-shot and image-search it at www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ ...
      And here you go: It is ITC Arnova Standard Regular. :)

    Hello WolfiePit! I already subscribed you a while back but this is the first time I ever leave a comment on your video. Not sure if you're gonna read this, but I just wanna say thank you. I was under the weather this whole week and haven't been eating good. Last night I fell asleep after binge-watching your channel, somehow you kinda appear in my dream cooking tasty, hearty, and inexpensive home-cooked meals and said "I did this for you, The People". Sadly I woke up when the meals are still cooking in the oven and didn't eat a single bite, but I woke up super hungry and finally get myself to cook a homemade meal. I know it's just a dream but still. Thank you for making these videos. Your personality and dedication made this cooking channel the best one I see so far. Your videos put a smile to my face and encouraged me to cook a nice meal that I really need to get through another week. Thank you :)

      Your profile pic is terrible, your name is terrible, and your logic is terrible. If you honestly think shopping at the dollar tree is your only option as a poor person then you're not just poor financially but all across the board. Getting healthy and delicious food isn't something only the rich enjoy. In fact this channel points that out to you in his positive videos. I promise you that with a very small amount of money you can be well fed if you do a minor amount of research. Also you have internet access apparently so already you're at a huge advantage over the typical "poor" person I'm referring to.

    • @shirayuri3950

      This channel is made for fun and not scientific research. If you honestly think that buying meat products included in an alleged "full meal" at a store where everything costs a dollar then you're delusional. I promise you that it's cheaper and healthier to shop properly at your local produce section instead of attempting short cuts like these insane dollar tree type stores.

    Gotta love Dollar Tree. As a teacher, the items for classroom use there were a life-saver and easy on the purse strings. Now, I go there because the manager is very helpful and available to customers. I've gotten upscale Christmas decorations (there are a few; get there early while the stock is newly displayed), office supplies for my home office, and grooming supplies such as body cremes, shampoo and conditioner, hair accessories, and emery boards, etc. I also purchase plastic bin organizers and storage materials.

      palmtrees bananapamfs--If you know a teacher, or you have children in school, one of the kindest things you can do is ask for a list of supplies s/he might need and get friends or fellow parents of your child's classmates to fill his/her wish list. The district for which I worked allowed $200 PER YEAR for a full classroom. The items were purchased from Office Depot, so 200 bucks didn't go far. I thank God I'm retired, as my classroom costs (including the cost of paper and ink for my OWN printer--the district refused to pay for printers, even though we had to print out report cards, etc.) ran me between $300 and $500 PER MONTH out of my salary. If you do a UA-cam search on "classroom tours", you'll see how much time, effort, and money goes into "room environment" to make principals happy and, in lower socio-economic areas, parents don't even supply so much as a pencil for their children. After a quarter century of that, I retired.

    I'm vegan and I can't stop watching the Wolfe Pit, even the meat cooking videos 😂. No but seriously, kudos for highlighting the nutrition on frozen foods. And showing cheap, homemade alternatives for families! P.s I would DEMOLISH those spring rolls.

    My gf made the mistake of trying Yu Sing. More like Yu Suck. Also, I didn't care much for the spring rolls but to each their own, since my dumb ass microwaved them. I will give these a 2nd chance, thanks to you. Fellow Dollar Tree raider here Btw.

    The texture of the veggie rolls is good but there is no flavor, which would be just fine at ten cents a pop but they smell up my apartment so fucking bad you couldn't pay me to make those again. And that was only making 3 of them! I'm surprised you didn't mention that

    +TheWolfePit Hey, I got one for ya. Tasteful Selections Take & Shake Potatoes. Picked one up at Wally World in their produce section. It's this microwavable cup (I always thought potatoes+microwave= WMD.) full of teeny taters with a sachet of seasoning you sprinkle on. One of the ingredients is silicon dioxide. Mmm-mmm!
